She wiped at his tears with her thumb, clumsy but gentle. “You’re crying?” she said faintly.

“…First time seeing you cry. I mean, you always have a smiling face.”

Amon choked. “I’m angry. I’m… I just—”

“I think you look better when you smile,” she interrupted quietly.

His breath hitched.

“Mira… please don’t talk like this,” he whispered. “Please. Don’t say things like you’re staying behind.”

Amon clenched his fists. “I won’t leave you. I don’t care what you say. We already lost Harvey and the others.” His voice broke completely. “I don’t want you to die as well.”

At the mention of Harvey, Mira’s eyes flickered.

“…He’s gone, isn’t he?” she asked.

Amon couldn’t answer. His silence was enough.

Mira closed her eyes for a moment. When she opened them again, they were wet—but calm.

“He was loud,” she murmured. “Always complained and strict… but he was kind.”

Amon nodded, tears dropping onto the floor. “He was.”

There was a long pause. The camp outside was quiet, distant sounds of metal and footsteps echoing faintly. Time felt fragile, like it was slipping through their fingers.

Then Mira spoke again.

“Lucien, Kaelra, Derrick are gone as well. I have known them for years… anyways, Amon… you have to go.”

“No,” he said instantly.

“You can,” she said gently. “Because you’re the only one who still can.”

Amon shook his head. “I’ll hide with you. I’ll come back later. I’ll do some–”

She shake her head lightly. Her voice dropped to a whisper meant only for him.

“They broke me, Amon.”

His breath caught painfully.

“Not just my body,” she continued. “Inside too. I don’t want to run anymore. I don’t want to be dragged. I don’t want to scream again.”

His shoulders shook.

“Please,” she said softly. “Don’t make me keep suffering.”

Amon felt like something was crushing his heart from the inside.

“…What are you asking me to do?” he whispered, already knowing the answer, already hating it.

Mira pulled back just enough to look at him.

“End it,” she said. “Before they come back.”

Amon’s eyes widened. “No. No, I can’t. I won’t.”

She smiled weakly. “I guess you’re kind. That’s why you should live.”

Tears streamed freely down his face now. They were not just for Mira, but for everyone.

She reached up again, cupping his cheek with trembling fingers. Her touch was warm. Real. Alive.

“You will,” she said.

She brushed her thumb under his eye, wiping his tears. “So don’t cry. Smile for me, at least once.”

Amon squeezed his eyes shut, shaking uncontrollably. When he opened them again, he forced his lips into a broken, painful smile.

Mira smiled back. “That’s good,” she whispered. Her breathing grew shallow.

“…Please,” she said one last time. “Do this for me. Then go. Only you can survive here.”

Amon silently nodded. He went to the table where the torture weapons were kept. There was a knife as well. Amon took it and came back to Mira.

He got on his knees and smiled at her gently, despite tears streaming down slowly.

Mira closed her eyes. “Thank you,” she said. And then she waited.

So he took the blade to her neck. The sharp blade rested on her skin. Amon slid it horizontally, cutting her neck deeply.

She didn’t make a sound. Didn’t show any pain. As if she was used to it.

In less than a minute, she was dead silently. Amon remained beside her.

“Hah… let’s get out of here.” Amon dried his tears. Getting on his feet, he stared at Harvey and Mira one last time before walking toward the entrance.

’I need a weapon…’

Dragging his battered body, Amon peeked outside again.

Amon gazed at the man sleeping outside one particular tent. He was a little away. It was in the direction of the center. His shadow wrapped around his feet as he walked toward him. His steps didn’t make any sound.

He flapped open the curtain at the entrance and entered it without making any sound. The demon soldier remained asleep.

The sound of a few demons talking came from the center of the camp.

As Amon entered the tent, his eyes widened in surprise. The inside was lit up with a small lantern. It was a tent filled with armory and weapons. There were not many weapons or armors here, but he could understand.

Even at the human base, there were four armory tents in different sides. So whenever a surprise attack came, the soldiers could take weapons from their closest tent.

Amon tried to check out the weapons he needed.

He took a longsword and a hatchet available there. Just then his eyes fell on the corner of the table. A box was there. Amon walked over and opened the lid.

“What?” A small smile formed on his face. There were his two space rings. Amon instantly took them and wore them.

Amon took out two healing potions from them. They were high-grade. He chugged them down one by one. Warmth spread through his body.

The deep wounds on his chest, his back, his shoulders started to heal much faster. The ones given by Zerath were good. They were just enough to keep Amon alive.

But the healing potions Amon had gotten from the assassin were high-grade.

He stood there for a while. His heart felt calm now. He decided to push the thoughts of his teammates away. For now, survival came first.

Amon put the new sword and hatchet into the storage ring. He explored the tent more. He wanted to find anything that might be useful for him. His body was still aching as he moved. Then he saw it.

A wooden box filled with grenades.

Just beside it were huge bottles filled with what looked like fuel. Amon tried to smell it, and to his luck, it was fuel. Amon took all the bottles into his ring.

“Fuck! I won’t run that easily. I will at least make their situation much harder,” Amon muttered with a wide grin.

Amon collected all the grenades and took the important things he would need.
