Chapter 239: Chapter 238: The Battle For Humanity Part 2
As the lingering sensation washed over everyone, It became apparent that Earth had seemingly been cut off from everyone and everything, neither Space nor Tiamutael were able to shed any light on what was happening.
Suddenly Carl doubted his ability to make good on his threat to ground his daughter, but then he shook the doubt away, she was his little girl no matter how powerful she was.
“Tiamutael, honestly, are your stats as fake as your sister’s obviously are?”
“I’m pretty sure they’re real, I swear I didn’t change them if they aren’t.”
Slightly relieved that their only uncontrollable child was the one who would only use that power to play pranks, which were suddenly displayed in a new light regarding how they seemed to require the ability to perfectly predict their target’s movements and reactions, they turned their attention towards what they should do.
But even as that happened, Kyubi suddenly appeared and dragged Klaire away from Tiamutael.
“Sorry Carl, only a matter of time before it reaches here too, me and Klaire need to leave our territory before that.”
With that brief, far from complete explanation, the two of them disappeared through another portal and appeared in Amaterasu’s realm next to Suzaku and the others.
Kyubi apologised for the intrusion and explained that the pulse carried an immense amount of paradox-energy that sent Raziel’s power into overdrive. Apparently it had caused such a sudden boost to Kyubi’s abilities she had completely destroyed the house, which she asked Suzaku to go and explain to Carl.
The only saving grace was that it would be limited to their territory or Raziel’s immediate vicinity. Unfortunately, it did mean that it was too dangerous for them to be anywhere near their daughter, which left them both quite annoyed.
Suzaku chose to leave as they plotted Kitsunoko’s eventual punishment, not for what she had done, but because she had chosen to hide it from them and prevented them from preparing.
When she arrived and explained the situation, Carl immediately returned home, or rather to where home used to be. Where there beach house once stood was now no more than crater left in the wake of brute force, the kids off to the side trying to comfort Raziel.
As Carl picked her up, it was clear that she had scared herself more than anything and Carl did his best to soothe her nerves as the others gave their own account.
“…See, if you hadn’t realised something was wrong immediately, you couldn’t have protected everyone. Don’t worry about the house, we’ll build it all over again and your mums will learn to control their strength and you’ll learn to control the output, so there’s no need to cry.”
Raziel gradually managed to pull herself together, then Carl decided to take them to their grandparents’ house ahead of schedule.
“…So my granddaughter’s to blame? Fine, I’ll tell everyone that Ki-ko is grounded… Again. Carl, when this is done, make sure you teach that girl a little restraint.”
“Mum, that’s a bit harsh. I think she’s been this strong since the beginning, she’s only doing this now because she feels the need to. If anything it’s our fault for not realising how much she was hiding.”
Leanna accepted that as his way of saying he deserved the lecture and promised it would be his when they had time.
Carl accepted his fate, now that things beyond notice had happened, he couldn’t leave Kyubi or Klaire on Amaterasu’s world so he asked Tiamutael to pull the whole thing into his private dimension.
He cocked his head, a little confused by how casually his dad asked the impossible. “Tiamutael, have you not realised that doing it over and over tuckers you out, but you can transport large groups in one go with no problem. You do it all the time with your family, because you see us as a family and not individuals.”
The look he received was that of a child who had had his mind completely blown by something. It was one of the rare moments where the little dragon was completely unaware of his own power and one of the rare moments where he acted his age.
What made it more comical, was that Carl had to literally snap him out of it by clicking his fingers in front of his son’s face.
“Dad, this is like that one show, where they have to run and teleport their base somewhere else!” Carl squinted for a second as he tried to think of what he was referring to, then shook himself out of it as he remembered the urgency and told him they could geek out later.
A split second later they were on Amaterasu’s world, alongside Kyubi and Klaire and separated from the rest of creation. After everyone was on the same page, it was decided that the schedule shouldn’t change, since it would impact the new Carrion-Hunter queens’ reproduction.
It was a tough call to make, but letting future information effect their planning would also effect the outcome of whatever Kitsunoko had done and she would have planned for her parents to do what had already been decided rather than deal with the hassle of replanning.
“Tiamutael, how did whatever happened effect the outcome with the fox-spirits?”
“Hard to say…” Tiamutael stared into the middle distance, but seemed confused. “…It’s like they were all distracted and overwhelmed, but then the spirits disappeared and now they want to know what happened.”
Tiamutael wasn’t happy, obviously annoyed with his sister’s antics, but he was also too scared of her to go see and it was quite funny how timid he was toward her.
The only thing they could do at that stage, was use Tiamutael as a go between until they ran out the clock, it was far from ideal but also incredibly peaceful in his realm so they chose to make the most of it.
As the hour drew close to the moment they’d head to face their enemies, Carl realised he had forgotten to read the book Jupiterran had passed over.
Flicking through the pages it read like daily reports, but there was something about them that was almost painfully obvious.
Throughout them, any mention of the committee was vague, either referred to by the collective or as “board member” followed by what was obviously a number corresponding to their planetary position. All except for himself, Marsian, Satur and Ura, which Carl got the impression meant something.
They seemed to be genuine reports aside from the code identifying select members who he felt were deserving of a second chance and reading them quickly began to feel like a compiled defence to prove as much.
The fact that Mercurian wasn’t included however, meant that despite his more honourable nature, meant that he was either too proud to change sides or Carl was misreading the situation.
“Okay, when we get there, Kyubi and Tenko get to go for Terra and her daughters, Sol-Devourer can go for Sol, if Amaterasu and Klaire can make their way through Mercurian, Venusiah, Plutinas. I’ll take the other four…”
“Let me guess, give them every opportunity to surrender?”
“Mercurian yes, but feed whatever’s left of the others to Sol-Devourer. The only exception is Terra, I’ve been thinking and I feel like something’s being missed, Keep yourselves and her trapped in a barrier at all times. Even after she’s dead. The same goes for her daughters as well.”
When they asked what his concern was, he simply specified her daughters. He explained that making them out of curiosity and to have subservient dependents was one thing, but raised the point that stopping the others from retaliating after the trouble that resulted from the fox-spirit massacre was no small amount of trouble.
“I see your point, she isn’t sentimental enough to defend them, so why do so?” Tenko echoed his thought process slightly more succinctly than he had been able to express.
What neither of them knew, was why Kyubi was grinning.
When she explained it meant that she knew the best way to handle the situation, it didn’t exactly make them feel any better, but they had caught her at her weakest and completely shattered her mind which led to her grieving the people who abused her for centuries so it was hard to call it sadistic.
After another couple of hours, they still hadn’t seen or heard of any unusual movements. It wasn’t what they had expected, it made no sense why Gilgamesh had emerged only to sit and watch.
It was their belief that Gilgamesh would summon them all to the same place and in doing so leave them free to get Gilgamesh to watch as Carl made himself look like the kind of target he was used to fighting.
In the end, nothing happened, but the time was upon them and they all headed to their assigned positions without delay.
In an instant, every gate room in human territory was disabled, communications cut, alarms disabled and the humans were attacked on several fronts simultaneously. Ten at first, then ten more, then ten more and so on until twenty minutes had passed, at that point the humans thought it was over…
Then armies of Elves, Demons and Carrion hunters appeared and tore through anything that seemed like it had even an ounce of desire to resist.
Back on Earth, the situation was just as dramatic.
As the surrounding immortals caught in Kitsunoko’s outburst picked themselves up, they decided it was prudent to give her a wide berth. The fact that Nergal had slaughtered most of them and he was now nervously watching the two little foxes was all they needed to know it was time to get out of the way.
What undercut their fear however, was the fact that not only had no fox-spirits been revived, but the fact that the girl was visibly fighting the urge to kill Tsukuyomi.
After a few moments, a male god appeared next to Nergal. “Nergal, who exactly is that fox-spirit that seems to loathe my brother, she couldn’t be…”
“She is Kyubi’s daughter and she is well aware of everything that happened to her mother.” Only after he spoke did Nergal realise it was Susanoo, the epiphany bringing an indescribable torrent of emotion as he frantically scanned around to find someone.
When his eyes fell on the one he had been looking for he dropped to his knees and cover his eyes. Stepping out from her place in the crowd, she walked over and knelt down in front of him as she pulled him to her chest.
Realising that the two of them would be indisposed for quite a while, Susanoo walked towards where the fox-spirit struggled to contain herself and bowed in the same way that Amaterasu had.
“Daughter of Kyubi, it is your choice what you do, but I ask that you don’t.”
“Go somewhere she will never have to know you’re back and you can leave, I hope you live long enough to become as lonely and suffer as much as she did.” Kitsunoko then ran over to Sis and cried into her chest as her aunt done her best to comfort her.
As Tsukuyomi left for his exile, Ishtar remained unconscious where her head had hit the floor, which made Sis ask exactly how she managed that particular feat.
“I used Soul and Mind to hit every form, then wrapped it in Infinity to make it keep hitting until I stop it. She told Dad that she isn’t his mum, she said it right to his face, it was really mean.”
Sis kept consoling her and agreed that it was mean, but suggested she stop it so they can do whatever happens next before they draw too much attention.
Kyubi ended the effect and Ishtar Ishtar gradually regained consciousness, rubbing her head with a pained expression she pushed herself back to her feet and stood silently as she realised the child was at her wits end already.
It hadn’t escaped her notice that it was her daughter consoling her either, but she had enough clarity to know that interrupting would make her the next public enemy number one as she overheard the others talk about Tsukuyomi going into exile.
When she noticed her brother’s arm though, she walked forward and tried her best to heal it, awkwardly avoiding eye contact with Izanami.
“Who the hell did you annoy to get this wound? It won’t heal, or even let me create a replacement.”
“That would be your grandson, Mother. Not that you particularly deserve either title.” The words hit her hard, but they also brought Kitsunoko out of her moment.
The little fox dried her eyes, then dropped the illusion over she had held over her system since the beginning before she told everyone to take a look at the real her.

Those souls who had died before the implementation weren’t exactly sure what any of it meant, but those who died after were suddenly terrified of the being before them and rightfully so.
The only entities in existence that the system had no sway over, were conceptual beings or in other words, Laws.
Not only had she proven her power by resurrecting them, she had proved that she was a being on a level that place her above any of them and the lingering sensation of the Laws running from her placed them above even them.
“Can I assume you’ll all behave from now on? We aren’t going to be here forever, but we don’t want to hear about anyone causing trouble…”
As Kitsunoko spoke, it was clear she was done playing the fool, no one knew what really inspired her to suddenly show her true self though and Gaia and Sis couldn’t help but find that a little heartbreaking.
The most tragic part of it all by far, was the look of sadness that she decorated her otherwise untellable expression.
In the end Sis couldn’t stand it anymore and snatched up her niece.
“That’s enough, Ki-ko. It doesn’t matter how strong you really are, you can be whoever you want to be. If your mums or dad were here right now, they’d tell you it’s okay to be selfish sometimes, being powerful doesn’t mean you have to be grown up.
You brought them back from the dead, they owe you, tell them what you want them to do and they’ll either do it or they’ll be erased. You just brought us an extra two weeks to deal with them after the other stuff.”
Nergal pulled himself together and drew one of the sickles he fashioned from the ribs of the Elder-god. “…Her aunt isn’t the only one that’s not happy to see her lose that innocence and in case you hadn’t noticed you aren’t immortals anymore.”
As a grim realisation dawned on all of them, they looked around to see if anyone seemed likely to challenge him, but then they were crushed beneath the weight of a new presence they couldn’t begin to compare to.
As a hand fell upon Kitsunoko’s head, she heard the voice of her older-little brother. “Sis, you really didn’t need to do this right now. I know you read my mind, you know what would have happened.”
“Shut up. I’m your big sister, it’s my job. I’ll be alright after a nap and some cookies.”
“Everyone, make my sister cry again and I’ll trap you in my reality…” Kitsunoko was about to object, but then Tiamutael pinched her mouth closed. “…I’m your brother, it’s my job, besides I owed you after the whole engagement thing.”
“You’re lucky I only dragged you back.”
Tiamutael laughed and disappeared as his sister growled at him, then Ishtar put the pieces of their conversation together and she realised it was the girl before her that she had seen at the end of the first war and her brother that ended it.
The one thing that escaped her was how they physically traversed time, but even as the gears turned Kitsunoko’s eyes told her to stop them before she broke them and after being left unconscious with what was undoubtedly a warning blow, she heeded the warning.
The version of Kitsunoko she had seen in the past was fully matured and unable to contain her aura, which given the amount this child was able to effectively disguise was all Ishtar needed to know that all of creation existed only by their good graces and losing them was not something that was worth the risk.
After making mistakes at every turn, failing to achieve any of her goals, she knew that the time had come to do what she should have done in the start.
“Kitsunoko, what do you want us to do? When we’re done, we will return to this sanctuary and ask again.”
“I need you to locate the other villains and keep them busy, Margo will summon them shortly and interfere at a critical moment, it will cost the lives of my siblings if they succeed.”
Ishtar nodded and looked into the future with a talent only she possessed, knowing that the little fox was only testing them since she obviously knew where they were thanks to her omniscience.
It wasn’t lost on her that she had angered her granddaughter as much, if not more than Tsukuyomi and was only alive because Kitsunoko was practicing what she preached about not turning her back on family, so she was determined to try and make amends before she pushed her too far.
When she had successfully located them all, she sent groups of the most advantageous counters to each of the villains. It was far from one-sided, the Elder-gods that Kitsunoko had revived were powerful, but with no immortality and the boost their opponents got from the system it was all they could do to buy time.
“Mum, when we’re done, we’re going to have a long talk about everything.”
