Chapter 35: Carceral Citadel
“Nemo, show me the global chat first.” Neil spoke as he pulled some snacks from his inventory and began eating.
“Yes master, but should I limit the global chat to just humans? And only the newly awakened lords?” she asked, her sweet voice sounding in his mind.
Neil thought for a moment and then replied: “Yeah, only the new lords, and as for the races, hmm… just humans.”
“Alright master, let me filter out the chat.” Nemo said and then added: “Done.”
“Good job.” Neil praised as an ethereal display appeared before him.
Although the chat was put on slow mode, it was refreshing rather fast. After all, there are thousands of newly awakened humans.
[Global Lord Chat]
(RobustDog: Fuck, my ass is on fire! Why did I receive such a stupid skill?)
(Arlong: Guys, did any of you encounter a link yet? Where I am, it is very safe.)
(Oh I can select my title, wait what?: Uhm, is there a way to change my lord title?)
(Aphroditress: I am stuck, this place is freezing and burning, someone help!)
…
Neil read several messages, and as he expected, the chat was wild.
After a few moments, he closed the global chat. There didn’t seem to be anything important happening.
“Open the Trade Centre.” Neil spoke, and instantly a display flashed before his eyes.
“Master, I have adjusted the filters. Tell me if there is anything in particular you are looking for.” Nemo said.
Neil nodded and observed the neatly arranged items’ images and info. They were even perfectly divided into sections.
There seemed to be all sorts of things, from weapons, gene points, armor, clothes, food, plants, and so on.
“If I wish to purchase something then, how do we exchange?” he questioned while scrolling among the endless items.
Along with the image, there was a short description and what the owner wanted in exchange or any note.
“Once you have successfully traded something with another lord, then it will automatically be swapped.” Came the answer.
“Oh, I see.” Neil was quite curious about all this. He wanted to try it out but would need to wait.
There really were all sorts of things, even things he hadn’t heard about. All sorts of eggs, beasts, and whatnot.
He really felt like buying many things.
With a long sigh, he closed the Trade Centre. Just like back on Earth, he was still too poor.
“How do I check out clash battles?” this was the thing Neil was most curious about.
He also needed to win a certain number of clash battles to upgrade his elemental bow.
“Master, for that you will have to wait until your domain has been stabilized.”
Nemo said, but she too wondered why this transfer was taking so long.
It should have ended by now.
“Alright, then let’s wait. Hmm, show me the leaderboard.” He said, drinking some orange juice.
Having a kitchen where he could buy almost anything was really great. His domain was just too OP.
“Okay-”
Nemo was replying when suddenly the domain shook slightly and then finally stabilized, and several messages appeared before Neil.
[Teleportation Successful!]
[You have arrived in the human territory!]
[Current location: Carceral Citadel]
[A place meant to lock what couldn’t be allowed outside.]
Neil read the messages in surprise and felt the temperature around him decrease suddenly.
“Carceral Citadel? Why does it sound a bit ominous?”
For some reason, he had a bad feeling in his heart. Wasn’t he back in the human territory? Then what was the reason behind this strange feeling?
“Nemo, where exactly am I?” he asked as he got off the bed and couldn’t help but shiver.
It was getting too cold too fast. As he lightly exhaled, his breath fogged the air.
“Yes master, let me search… Oh!” Nemo’s surprised voice sounded in his mind. It seemed she had found something about it.
The foreboding feeling rose sharply in his heart as Neil put on his battle suit and felt a bit warmer. Then he decided to go out and check.
’Did I end up in some strange part of the human territory?’ frowning, he opened the door and could feel the temperature drop further.
Walking over the cold floor, he suddenly noticed a strange phenomenon.
The house on Neil’s left was actually a bit warm, or maybe more than a little warm.
While waiting for Nemo’s reply, he quickly walked to the main door and pulled it, finally stepping out.
Bright light blinded his vision for a few moments, as Nemo’s slow and nervous voice sounded.
“Master… we might be in a little trouble.”
After a moment, Neil finally opened his eyes and took in the sight of his surroundings.
“!!!” He drew in a cold breath as his eyes widened. His heart skipped a beat.
He was at a loss for words at the absurdity of all this.
The land on his right was covered by a thick layer of snow. It was like a cold catastrophe with heavy snowfall.
The air was foggy and made it hard to see ahead. All that could be seen was snow.
While on his left, the land glowed with an orangish color, with puddles of lava forming all over the place.
It seemed extremely hot. The air seemed distorted and it was hard to see too far into the distance.
But through the blurry sight, he could make out a few things in the far distance.
As he continued to look around, Neil felt anxious and angry.
Why couldn’t he catch one moment of relaxation? From one problem to the next, even bigger and far more dangerous.
Very, very far away in the distance, enormous bars could be seen, each as thick as a large building.
Their height was unknown as they disappeared up in the sky. Seeing those bars placed some distance from one another,
It really felt as if this whole place was a prison. Those bars looked really eerie.
From left to right, there were over a dozen bars visible. Who knows how many there were and where the end was.
“What the hell, why am I back in a prison again?” Neil cursed. He had already been locked in prison two times.
On the snowy side, he could also very faintly make out the silhouette of something big, like a mountain, building, or something.
And his territory was placed right in the middle of the cold and hot land. That’s why in his room he suddenly felt so cold,
While the left side was hot.
“Is this what they mean by, fuck me sideways?” Neil then turned and took in the sight of the backside.
Around two or three hundred meters away from his territory, on the backside was an endless sea that seemed to stretch as far as the eye could see.
The feeling of the unknown really gave Neil a dreadful feeling. This silence seemed to scream, as if messing with his mind.
He stared dazedly at the sea and somehow felt as if something was calling to him from inside.
But there was also a feeling of danger, the two sensations inducing confusion.
Both sensations contradicted one another.
Shaking his head, Neil snapped out of his daze. Many whirlpools seemed to be revolving in the sea.
