Chapter 127: Veil Hub
“u…..p!”
Makun was trapped in his usual glass tube when he heard a voice, someone calling for him. He was confused, since when did those shadows that could suffocate him without a word speak.
“UP!” He could feel pain, pain that had been ethereal before now felt physical.
What the hell was happening!
He jolted up, his eyes opening.
Hah…Hah…..Huh!
He breathed heavily, where was he? The last thing he remembered was white, a white he had never seen before.
Then it all hit him back, the Joneses, the pursuit, Sam Houston Forest, the armed guards, the fence, the chalet, frequency shift, everything came back to him.
And he could not help himself but look around in shock.
Was he not supposed to die after that explosion, why was he here right now, eyes opened, feeling pain and seeing Sarah in front of him, her eyes closed and her hands rested on his knee.
He was in a place he did not recognise, a modern interior with high wooden ceilings, leather furniture, a cold stone fireplace, and floor-to-ceiling windows letting in pale morning light.
“Where are we?” He asked, his head turning to Ray who had been slapping him to get up since earlier.
“What do you mean where are we, we are in the chalet you entered.” Ray said, had the rookie lost his mind.
Makun stayed silent, Ray was never serious to begin with, instead, he looked around at the room.
Danielle was here too, but she was looking at six people cloaked in red, laying on the floor unconscious.
He could also see the kids, on the leather furniture unconscious too.
Was all of it a dream? Even Makun himself could not acknowledge his thought.
If it was a dream why was Sarah healing him, why were those guys still cloaked in red and were the kids still drugged.
What is it that the crimson ball had accomplished, he could not tell, well, he had an inkling but was not too sure.
Sarah opened her eyes, a tiny bead of sweat rolling down her forehead. She exhaled slowly. “It is all good now.”
Makun looked at her. “Where are we?”
She tilted her head, confused. “You came here right, did you not? The chalet.”
“No, the place I entered was not like this.”
Danielle turned from the six unconscious figures, She had overheard Makun’s interaction with Ray and Sarah. That had attracted her attention, she had to know more, how is it that he had found the Chalet, why the kids were here..
As such she walked to him, and asked
“Describe in detail what happened.”
Makun looked at her, he wanted to retort but shot his Mouth.
If she had listened to him earlier, given him the benefit of a doubt, they would have properly taken care of the situation, with no one fleeing.
It had taken a failed attempt at Divination from Ray and alot of convincing from Sarah for him to have the freedom of action that led to this result.
If not for that, he would have failed his first mission.
He kept his thoughts to himself but obliged to her request. “I followed the Joneses from Old Town Spring…..”
He narrated what happened, how he acted upon Yohan’s room, followed then fought and the more he spoke the more their expression turned sour.
At the end, they all looked at him with different expressions.
Ray was smiling from ear to ear, sure he had failed his divination for reasons he had no idea of but even those had yielded results, at the same time was Makun not crazy?
Who in their normal mind after sensing a frequency shift would go on alone knowing well that it could be a setup, a trap or them facing a whole organisation.
Well, he had been lucky this time to not get into more trouble.
In front of him, Sarah was flabbergasted. Foolish! was the only word that came to her mind, was he always going to act this way and put himself at risk?
The injuries she had treated earlier, they were injuries he got from overextending himself, no, it was worse than that.
He had overexerted himself after reaching his limits.
Doing so multiple times was putting him, his route core and his spiritual veins at risk. She shook her head, he truly was foolish.
As for Danielle, she had not said a word, she had not even acknowledged her earlier mistake, her eyes were vacant, she was thinking.
Then Makun heard her blurt a word.
“Veil hub.” He did not know what it meant.
“What is a veil hub?” He blurted before even realizing he had spoke, maybe that could put an explanation to some of the questions he had.
Danielle nodded, Makun did not know of course, he was not like them who has spent most of their life in the Veil, learning from young, No, he had been pulled in at a later age.
He did not know certain things.
“A Veil hub is an organizational construct, a deliberately created convergence point built and maintained by mystic organizations”
She gave a simple definition, but that was everything Makun needed, it all clicked.
Every question he had about the night Market had been answered, the Old plaza night market, pier night market, the chalet, the doors. The tower, everything now made sense.
The Plaza Night Market was one night market yes, but it was not limited by space, or distance. Instead, It was a central node of a Veil hub network linking plaza-based areas across Texas and Louisiana.
That meant Plaza’s were gates, physical locations in the mundane world, a shopping center, a public square, a commercial district, that has been modified by mystic organizations to serve as an entry point into a Night Market.
If that was the case, Then each and every door he saw in that tower, they were gates similar to the plazas.
In easier terms, he should think of it as a mystic internet router.
