Chapter 97: The Final Piece
The chains around his spirit body violently shook, pulling it, dragging it from left to right.
The pain he felt at this moment was beyond anything he had felt till now. It felt like a splitting soul, a pain no normal human should ever feel.
Thud!
Makun fell to his knees as one hand clutched his shirt near the heart. The second hand reached for his head, scratching the remaining hair he had left.
Stop! Stop! STOP!
He shouted, to no avail.
The chains pulled as the vortex kept growing bigger.
Yime stood in the sky, frozen. She had no idea what was going on. Orel had not mentioned something like this happening.
The pressure emitted was too much. Goosebumps crawled on her skin as a sense of unease gripped her heart.
Jorg and Amelia, who had expended too much energy, fainted.
They could not resist the change.
As for Orel, he lost footing and fell on the floor. His body convulsed, foam coming out of his mouth.
Makun, through his blurry vision, watched all of this happen.
He hacked a mouthful of blood, realizing something terrible was about to happen and none of them might survive.
It was too late. They could not flee.
BOOM!
A hand appeared in the skies. Big. Bigger than the six-story-tall VEB building. It was transparent, made of pure energy. Makun could see through it.
At the center of the hand lay an eye. A bloody eye that had blood dripping out of it. It was red, a perfect contrast to the transparent hand it lay on.
CRACK! CRACK!
Part of the bounded field that had been struggling to hold off the ancient creature and Yime’s strength earlier shattered.
It could not handle the presence of the eyed hand that stood in the sky.
Its pressure burst through the shattered area of the bounded field and spread. The factory that lay west of Hope Rest Shelter shattered, vanishing into thin air.
BANG!
Yime, who had been floating earlier, fell to the ground. The pressure was something she had never felt. Not even from her chief.
It felt like Jupiter pressing down on a mouse. The mouse could only get crushed.
Snap!
The blood-dripping eye at the center of the hand scanned the area in a quick snap.
It went through Yime, Jorg, Amelia, Bol, Cheryl.
Everyone It looked at fainted, Except for Yime who struggled to stay awake.
It paused.
Looked at Cheryl. She was the reason why it had appeared.
“Th…e do…ll,” it spoke.
POP!
Everyone’s eardrums burst at the sound of its words. Blood spurted from their seven orifices.
The higher their tier, the more the blood that spurted.
This was not just sound, It was pressure shaped into syllables, vibrating through bone rather than air.
The eye’s attention was pulled from Bol and Cheryl when it felt something calling for it.
Snap!
It scanned the other side of the field. It went from Mark to Orel to—
Makun, who knelt down, blood flowing from his eyes, ears, nose, mouth.
“OH…..” the eye exclaimed.
The call came from the boy. It came from deep inside the boy.
Makun’s hazy eyes looked at the eye, his pupils burning as if trying to look at the eye was blasphemy, an act he should not commit.
However, Makun, whose spirit body was being torn, who was bleeding from everywhere, made sure to keep his eyes open.
This! THIS! He could not believe it.
The energy emitted by the eye was similar to that emitted by the chains.
Before he could think further, he felt the eye lock on him. He could not move, breathe, or think.
He was aware and conscious. He could see, feel, but could not think.
That was the only thing he knew.
A pulse of blinding red light covered Makun and perforated his frontal lobe.
Makun felt something tear into him. It felt as though a thousand tiny hooks were dragging backward through muscle, tearing it in ragged strips.
He wanted to shout but could not.
He wanted to scream. He wanted to cry. But he couldn’t.
His spirit body almost collapsed, his consciousness fading. However, under the pulse of blinding red light, Makun had no choice but to stay alive.
Makun collapsed from the ethereal pain he felt.
…
The eye had perforated Makun and accessed his spirit body through its forehead.
It looked at Makun’s spirit body.
It was full of suppression charms Makun had never noticed before.
They covered him from head to toe and pulsed in a blinding golden-red light. Every pulse sucked something out of Makun’s spirit body.
It sucked something quite similar to spiritual energy, but it was totally different.
The substance sucked then flowed through the chains. Eight heavy chains made of ethereal iron that dug into him, anchoring him.
Each chain was intricate and ancient, covered in symbols that hurt to perceive.
With every pulse of the suppression charms, the chains bit deeper. They blazed with cold fire that seared through his astral body, keeping him in the neat little box they had kept him in for twenty years.
“The….final….piece,” the eyed hand spoke.
CLANG!
The chains reacted brutally at the words of the eyed hand.
They squeezed Makun’s astral body even more, extracting more substance from him.
It felt as if they were being disrespectful by not offering the eye anything. The eye which had graced them with its presence.
“Calm…” the eye spoke. “It is not yet time.”
Makun’s body flickered in and out of existence.
The eyed hand looked deeply. Something felt off.
“A….chain….is….missing,” it realized. “A….link….has….been….severed.”
Another wave of red light pulsed out of it, perforating Makun’s forehead.
The eyed hand knew the importance of the ninth chain. It was the most efficient and most useful chain.
Without it, everything would unravel.
The person who had destroyed it knew what they were doing. They had an agenda against them.
That was unacceptable.
It was going to reconstruct it. The chain severed by the presence just before Makun’s awakening was going to be recreated by the eyed hand.
With such a thing, Makun would serve its role better.
Blinding red light pulsed and circled around the eight remaining chains, which tightened around Makun’s astral body.
