Chapter 92: Do Not Disappoint Me
Makun felt it. He felt the air thickening, This was different from the reality distortion that happened earlier.
This was not a frequency change, nor the creation of a bounded field.
It was Ashe, a concentration of Ashe he had never felt before. It felt as if the spiritual energy present in this bounded field were condensing.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Auras exploded everywhere, Bol, Jorg, Cheryl pulsed their Route Core to the extreme, filling their bodies up to the brim with Ashe.
They filled it and pushed it outward, A battle on who could influence the environment the most with their Ashe.
Only Amelia had remained low-key, although her Route Core pulsed heavily. As if the effect of her Route Core pulsing was constricting the exertion of her Ashe, suppressing her presence, making her spiritual signature nearly invisible.
Thump! Thump!
Makun felt his heart, Route Core and Ashe pump. He felt minimal in front of the energy released by these experts.
What is this? Why is this happening.
This was not what he had felt when battling Zack York, Nor what he had felt when battling Bol earlier.
He had not felt it from Jorg before during the spar or at Stone Bar.
This was different. It felt like they could crush him with just a thought. Their Ashe didn’t just exist in their bodies. It radiated outward, imposing their will on reality itself and forcing atoms to obey them.
What he did not know yet was that practitioners restricted themselves greatly whenever they fought behind the veil.
If they released too much energy, influenced reality, or created disasters through their spiritual energy, they were not only going to attract the attention of the Suppression Bureau, but also crack the veil and create a connection to the Deep.
This might create disasters with entities flooding their world.
Mystics fought at full power in the veil, bounded fields, the Deep, and areas where they could go all out without consequence.
Right now, what he was witnessing was not a simple spar he had with Jorg, nor was it Bol toying with him.
The stakes were high. They had received instructions from Yime. They could not let these guys escape. Bol and Cheryl knew it, knew the torture that awaited them if they were caught.
Better die fighting than be caught alive. That was the thought they shared. They would go all out.
FLASH!
Bol blurred and appeared beside Jorg, dagger in hand, Ashe concentrated along the blade’s edge until it could cut through reinforced matter.
CLANG!
Amelia’s blade intercepted. Steel met steel, sparks flying.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
They slashed left and right, countering each other in rapid succession. Bol jumped, flipping mid-air.
Cheryl appeared beneath him, claws extending, aiming for Amelia’s neck. Her small frame belied monstrous strength, Ashe flooding her muscles, amplifying her power beyond her size.
BOOM!
Before she could connect, she slammed into the ground. Head and stomach hit concrete. Blood sprayed.
Jorg’s Ashe had targeted her specifically, multiplying her weight tenfold. She lay pinned like an insect under glass.
WHOOSH!
Jorg raised both hands high, then smashed them down.
CRACK!
The ground shattered. Concrete fragmented. The shockwave hurled Cheryl upward.
Jorg appeared above her mid-flight, Ashe compressing into his fists, mass and density concentrated into a single point. He smashed down, aiming to crush her bones, end this in one blow.
A blur passed him.
Bol had shoved Cheryl toward Amelia. He spun and launched a kick at Jorg’s neck from behind, heel charged with destructive Ashe.
GRAB!
Jorg caught his leg mid-strike. His grip was iron. He threw Bol to the ground.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Bol skidded across concrete, body bouncing. Then he felt it. A zone where weight meant nothing. His body hung suspended mid-bounce.
Jorg’s fist hurtled toward him, knuckles wrapped in yellowish energy, gravitational force made visible.
WHOOSH!
Bol’s Ashe fought back, destabilizing the gravity field. He flashed forward, dagger slicing through the air.
SLASH!
Blood sprayed from Jorg’s stomach. The giant grunted, stumbling back, hand pressing against the wound.
Bol landed on his feet, breathing hard, dagger dripping red.
The fight was far from over.
Makun witnessed this sequence having difficulty following. What type of warrior is Bol? He moves too fast.
He knew Cheryl was a puppeteer, even though he could not understand how she had so much strength as a puppeteer, He knew Jorg was a Graviton Sovereign.
Bol and Amelia, he had no idea. They fought similarly, agile, fast, deadly. He felt small, he was the bottom feeder of the mystic world.
“Not bad” Jorg spoke. “It is the first time I have seen my blood in a while.”
The blood that spurted, gently lifted and entered his body, under the influence of his gravity control.
Bol was facing Jorg, while Cheryl stood opposite of Amelia.
They were assessing each other.
“An Inertia Breaker Warrior.” Jorg said. “Hmm! seems I should pull even more out of me.”
Inertia Breaker Makun noted. It was the first time he heard of such a warrior. Are they speedsters?
He had no Idea, but Jorg Knew.
He was very familiar with concept of Inertia Breaker.
An Inertia Breaker manipulates momentum at the atomic level, allowing instantaneous acceleration and deceleration without the normal physical constraints.
Where others are bound by inertia, the resistance of matter to changes in motion, an Inertia Breaker’s Ashe rewrites this law locally, enabling bursts of impossible speed and sudden stops that would shatter an ordinary body.
Jorg knew it, he had faced such opponents in the past, although a different variation, they still relied on momentum.
However as a third grade Adept, he expected more from Bol, he should be able to encode “momentum manipulation” into Ashe permanently, or break inertia of external objects, then again his kinetic strikes should be devastating.
That was what he had noticed after his fights against such opponents.
“You have more to bring out.” Jorg said. “Do not disappoint me.”
His body itched for a real fight. It had been a while.
