Chapter 131: The Tiny Healer
Tsk! Why now?
Makun was annoyed, he had been so close to comprehensions that could potentially increase his grade but they chose to show up at that time.
Three black SUVs emerged from the forest road at a decent speed with tires crunching against the gravel and their headlights cutting through the morning mist.
They drove past the fence entrance and halted in the garden.
Doors to two SUVs opened simultaneously, the third remained sealed, its tinted windows revealing nothing.
Makun could see men and women, six of them, dressed in dark two-piece suits with pairs of dark glasses stepped out of the SUVs in a hurry.
Their faces were blank, the expression of professionalism written all over them.
After stepping out, without thought, as if they knew of the bodies already, they walked towards the nine corpses with cube-shaped metallic devices in hand.
Afterwards, each of them placed the devices in a circular formation around the corpses.
They then moved away a good distance from the cubes and as if giving a command, they chanted.
Shiiiing!!
The device shone, a bright white light, rays emitting from them, Makun who had sat near the corpses earlier could feel his skin burning slightly.
It felt like hot needles piercing him all around his body.
“If I were you, I would move away.”
Makun heard a familiar voice warn him, and with no further thoughts, he stood up and retreated to the door of the chalet.
Whoosh!
A vortex of light formed around the bodies, and at that point, nothing in the formation was visible, not the gravel, the soil nor the bodies, it was just plain white.
Makun closed his eyes which had been blinded by the light.
Swoosh!!
The vortex dissipated and the lights disappeared.
He opened his eyes only to see that the spot where the bodies lay was now empty.
Oh! He thought, is it similar to the crimson device that priest used? Probably.
Upon observation, he knew this was different from normal frequency distortion devices, those devices did what they said, they altered the vibrational frequency of matter, shifting objects between layers of reality by adjusting their resonance with reality.
But this, it displaced those bodies entirely, severed their connection to this plane and made them vanish from the world.
Makun shook his head, he had to delve deeper for such knowledge.
“Trouble in paradise?” A mocking voice spoke, catching Makun off-guard.
He turned to see a slightly built man dressed in a neatly pressed button-down shirt tucked into his dress pants. And on his nose lay his brand mark, orange-tinted blue blocker glasses.
He had been so deep in thought that he had not heard Orel approaching.
“What? Having an existential crisis?” He turned and pointed at where the bodies had been. “Nine bodies, impressive mess! One would not think it was your first mission.” Orel smiled, his expression provocative. “Heartless killer.”
As always, Makun did not react, he knew that was what Orel wanted from him, a reaction.
Seems this guy always wants the psychological upper hand.
And no one really knew why.
“Orel stop.” A voice interrupted from the back.
It was that of a man, older than those present, in his forties, small frame and a thick dark moustache with a pouch attached at his side.
He walked in small steps towards Orel and Makun, looking at Orel with a menacing glare.
“Dumb idiot, have you not read the report?” He scolded. “Can you not see he still has some wounds that had not been taken care of?” He then pointed at Makun “You come here!”
Makun looked at the man confused, who was this tiny man, as foul-mouthed as Orel who ordered him around, he did not like it.
No, that is not my thought process.
Makun caught the berserk amplification right in its tracks, he would not usually react like this, he would analyze the situation and then decide.
The man spoke about wounds, and he had a pouch that resembled one Sarah carried, he had to be a healer, one of a higher level than even Sarah.
He walked to where the man was under an interested glint from Orel.
“Sit” The tiny man ordered.
Makun sat.
Woosh!
Makun could feel energy all around the chalet hurtling inward, spiraling from every direction like water circling a drain, converging on the small man as if he were the center of a gravitational well, the focal point of an invisible maelstrom that pulled Ashe from the trees, the air, the very ground beneath them.
A domain!
Makun knew it, he was an adept healer, an advanced one.
Ssssss!
The man opened his mouth and inhaled the concentrated energy that gathered around him.
HHHH! He breathed in.
Then something happened, Makun felt a shift in the Ashe’s properties, the mixed energy that had been swirling transformed, its heterogenous nature smoothing into something gentler, warmer, he did not understand the process but he could sense the change, raw power being refined into something with restorative capacity.
Then the tiny man slowly raised his hand and
BANG!
Makun was almost propelled by the punch, it carried a force no healer should have, and first of all why was a healer hitting him.
What the Fu-
BANG!
Before he could even finish his thoughts he received another one.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Makun was being pummeled like a training dummy in VEB’s sparring hall, his body absorbing blow after blow.
An angry expression twisted his features as blood trickled from his mouth, pooling at the corner of his lips before dripping onto his shirt.
What the fuck is he healing! He berserk nature threatened to come out.
“Hahahaha! Dumbass, unlucky bastard. You thought you would have it good after I have been scolded.” Orel laughed uproariously.
His eyes gleamed with undisguised delight at another’s misfortune, the corners of his mouth stretched wide in that particular joy that came from watching someone else suffer, savoring each punch like it was entertainment crafted specifically for him. “This is beautiful, truly beautiful. Nice job Doc.”
