King’s Landing (Year 286 AC)
Cersei and Robert were breaking their fast, a newborn Joffrey in his cradle, a maid standing beside him to take care of him.
“Good to see the boy’s face this morning. It pleases me to see his face in the morning,” Robert spoke, surprisingly not drinking wine in the morning because his newborn was beside him.
Cersei shot the maid a look, who bowed and took Joffrey away while the other servants also stepped out of earshot.
“I brought him out so I might speak to you while you’re sober.” Cersei said and leaned back in her seat, looking at the confused Robert in hatred.
“You hurt me last night,” she whispered, and Robert had the sense to look ashamed.
“It was not me, my lady,” he said in a low voice as he looked down, not able to see Cersei in the eyes.
Before he could continue, Cersei interrupted him. “Then tell me, was it a ghost that fucked me last night?” she spat.
“Then the ghost was a heavy and vile one.” she commented and showed her arm to Robert. It had green marks as if someone had gripped it too tightly.
“It was the wine, my lady,” Robert said through gritted teeth and balled fists.
Cersei scoffed and looked away from Robert as if he were filth. She knew there was nothing to gain from talking to Robert further, and she left.
After her chat with Robert, Cersei sat in her room with her servants tending to her.
A knock was heard. “Enter,” she ordered, and a guard entered the room and knelt before her.
“I am here to inform you, a merchant from Goldmere has arrived in the city, Your Grace,” the guard said, and Cersei nodded as a hint of a smile appeared on her face.
She signaled to one of her maids, who went to a chest in the room and took out a parchment from it.
Cersei took the parchment and handed it to the guard. “Take this to the merchant. He will give you a flask,” Cersei ordered, and the guard took the parchment respectfully.
“Do not open the flask and guard it with your life,” Cersei said before the guard left, a warning in her tone.
She dismissed her maids and looked at the city as her sadness slowly turned to fierce hatred.
Then she heard her door open and saw Jaime enter her room. She stood up and went to him, fell into his arms and kissing him passionately.
Jaime parted from the kiss and looked at her state. “Did he…?” Jaime whispered, and Cersei nodded, a tear escaping her eye.
Jaime sighed and just held her to comfort her.
“Ra sent me another letter. He has sent another flask with a merchant,” Cersei told Jaime, who smiled at her.
“I heard Robert sent out an order for them to return to Winterfell from Dorne, fearing a brewing rebellion,” Jaime told her. She frowned at that.
“Robert sent Ra away the day after he gave me the first flask,” Cersei said with venom in her voice. “As if the pig knew I had gained another protector,” she said.
Jaime looked at her and shook his head. “He had told them half a moon before that,” he said, and just sat with her to talk to her and console her.
A/n: In ASOIAF, a moon is considered about a month.
“He did mention for them to visit King’s Landing first on their way to Winterfell. I may be able to thank Ra for the help he provides you with,” Jaime told Cersei with a smile.
(Jaime POV)
It took Ra, Princess Elia, and their entourage about half a moon to reach King’s Landing by the sea route.
I glanced at Robert as he sat on his throne, waiting for them to arrive for an audience.
“What name will they be announced by?” Robert asked Jon Arryn.
“It seems they now call themselves Drakensar, after the house name of Ser Ra, Your Grace,” Jon Arryn replied to the gleeful Robert.
I realized why all of this was taking place, why Robert called for his full council to be present and why even some nobles were present in the court.
Robert just wanted to announce them as Drakensar in front of the kingdom and the court.
He wanted Rhaegar’s children to be announced as Drakensar and not Targaryens.
I looked at the ground at the thought and grit my teeth as I thought of Rhaegar.
I was busy killing the king as the men of my house were knocking on Elia’s door, wanting to kill her and her children.
I should have been there, protecting her. Then again, I did not expect my father to be cruel enough to order the death of Elia and her children.
I should have known better. After all, I know the truth about Tysha and the depths of his cruelty.
I am thankful to Ra for saving them. I would have never forgiven myself if they had died.
I remember Ra still called me with respect even as others called me Kingslayer to my face after Robert became king.
As I was thinking all these thoughts to distract myself from reality, I heard the names being called out.
“Ser Ra Drakensar, summoned by His Grace, comes now into the presence of the King.” I heard the announcement followed by Elia, Rhaenys, and Aegon, with Drakensar behind their names.
I looked up to see the imposing golden giant enter with his new wife and her children.
The family stood in front of Robert and did not bother to bow, let alone kneel, as I smiled in my heart at that.
I know even Robert would not ask Ra to kneel, neither would he ask Elia to do so in front of Ra.
The family stood in front of Robert and just looked up, waiting for him to speak.
“Ra Drakensar, Elia Drakensar, Rhaenys Drakensar, and Aegon Drakensar. I thank you for accepting my invitation,” Robert said with a grin, saying their full names deliberately.
Elia raised an eyebrow as he said their full names, and I saw a look of realization dawn on her face as she seemed to have devised the purpose of Robert’s summons.
“Hmm,” I heard Ra hum in response to Robert as Elia and her children just smiled.
“I wished to ask for your health,” Robert said with a little hesitation, as it seemed Ra would be addressing him on behalf of the family. I smirked at that.
“A letter would have sufficed,” Ra spoke, and I barely held back a chuckle at his words.
I glanced up to see Robert’s pupils moving in all directions as he seemed to be thinking of some excuse to justify summoning Ra and his family to the court as they were on their way to Winterfell.
“I wished to congratulate you on the wedding,” Robert spoke. It seemed Jon Arryn had just whispered it in his ear.
“A gift would have sufficed,” Ra spoke, and I looked down and bit my tongue to stop myself from laughing out loud. I am certain Robert would have seen my shoulders shake a little if he had not been shitting himself right now.
“Yes, Ser Ra, we have prepared some horses and carriages for you as gifts, and the King wished to present you those gifts and reminisce of days of old,” Jon Arryn spoke up to save Robert’s arse, as always.
I am sure Ra would have spoken something that would have made me laugh out loud. However, I saw Elia hold Ra’s gloved hand gently and smile at him.
Ra looked at her and nodded before looking at Robert. “Thank you for the gift and the well wishes, King Robert,” he spoke, and I heard Robert sigh in relief so loud it was comical.
They were then invited to stay in the castle for a day as Jon Arryn scrambled to arrange some horses and carriages that would satisfy Ra.
A/n: I am thinking of sprinkling in GOT chapters and updating you on what is going on with Ra as bonus chapters.
