“These five can be the guardians of the land while the little ones can be familiars and companions for the people here,” Rhaella muttered.
They had carved the runes with the goal to make the five bigger worms into magically strong guardians, while the smaller worms would turn more into salamanders than worms to serve as companions for the people of the island.
They looked up to see it was night. The moon was shining down on them from the open mouth of the volcano. Rhaella observed in astonishment as the runes on the rim of the volcano shimmered and turned the moonlight into pure magical energy.
“Ignis and six of his siblings are called the Seven Daemons of the Moon, as they are all masters in lunar magic and have a magical skill they have studied for a thousand years each,” Skoll explained to the astonished woman.
“This makes our work easier,” she muttered after a moment of appreciation.
She walked toward the five giant worms and started by giving them names.
“I shall name you Nagga, Caraxes, Syrax, Viperion, and Gyloro,” she announced.
She used her own magic alongside the ambient magic in the volcano to facilitate their evolution. She then moved beside Skoll before they both placed their hands on specific rune circles and channeled their magic into the array.
A vast amount of magical energy escaped them and started permeating the clearing as it changed the biology of the fire worms fundamentally.
The five large worms, who were already undergoing evolution, changed further and became more streamlined.
Their obsidian armor hardened even further as fire swirled in the little crevices of their plating. The smaller worms started gaining limbs as the structure of their faces changed to look more like salamanders.
A magical pulse was sent through the whole island as runes formed in the sky, turning the moonlight into raw magic courtesy of Skoll. The barrier Ignis had formed made sure to keep the energy within the island, nourishing everyone in it.
By now, Daenerys and Viserys were just sitting on a grassy field with their backs resting on Hati as they watched the settlers move about.
Viserys draped his arm over his sister and caressed her cheek with his thumb as he thought about the words Rhaella had spoken regarding the people of the land he considered home.
The words contrasted with the action she had just taken. She was helping these people, yet she claimed detachment.
It helped the boy deduce that his mother harbored no love for the people of the Seven Kingdoms specifically, although she was still as kind as he remembered her to be.
He glanced up when he noticed something in the sky and gasped before nudging Daenerys and pointing up.
The brother and sister saw beautiful, intricate patterns form in the sky as the moonlight seemed to intensify into an ethereal silver glow. The light then condensed into a liquid form, as if molten silver were falling from the heavens.
Daenerys cheered and got up before raising her hands to the sky. She tried to catch the moonlight in her tiny hands and giggled as the silver motes scattered against her skin.
Viserys laughed out loud at the joy of his sister, a sound that seemed foreign to his own ears. He walked up to her before picking her up and placing her on his shoulders as he spun her around.
Hati trotted over to them and started running circles around them as well, his black fur catching the silver moonlight.
They paused when they noticed the people of the settlement seemed to be moving toward the volcano as if they were being pulled by a silent call.
Viserys and Daenerys climbed onto the back of Hati before moving over to the people.
“What happened?” Viserys asked one of the young men that had shown them around.
“I… feel something calling for me, Dāria riña,” the young man said, his gaze fixed toward the volcano.
Viserys was still getting used to being called Dāria riña, meaning Child of the Goddess.
He just nodded and nudged Hati to run over to the volcano. The great wolf made a jump before submerging into a shadow.
They appeared beside Skoll and Rhaella the next moment, the wolf using his magic to shield them from the intense heat.
“Moth—” Viserys was about to say, but paused when he saw a swarm of little worm-salamanders moving out of the volcano.
He then looked ahead and saw five giant beings. Most of their bodies resembled a constrictor snake, but they had humanoid upper bodies that seemed to have a layer of fire covering them.
Their faces were somewhere between a snake and a human, with red whiskers on their chins. They stood wearing Valyrian steel armor and wielding spears, with their heads bowed in reverence toward Rhaella.
The woman had noticed the arrival of her children and walked over to them before telling them about what she had been up to for the past hours.
“So the people and those hybrid fire-worms are just moving toward each other?” Viserys asked and got a nod of confirmation from his mother.
Viserys glanced toward the five spear-wielding giants and saw them moving out of the volcano to find their posts from where they would guard the island.
“Are we preparing for war?” he asked with a tilt of his head as he assessed the amount of firepower his mother had created.
“No, Dear. Fire worms are not easy to domesticate. I just found a way to solve that without killing them,” Rhaella said with a shrug.
She took the hands of the children and led them outside the volcano.
“What do you both think of living here?” she asked the children softly.
“I loved the pretty sky!” Daenerys said with a happy smile and a nod.
Meanwhile, Viserys chewed on his lip in thought. What he wanted was to reconquer the Seven Kingdoms and rule over his people from his seat on the Iron Throne.
However, he did not voice those opinions. His idea of home had evolved in the past few days that his mother had been able to guide him.
He glanced at his mother and sister before looking back to see Skoll and Hati walking behind them. The custodian gave him a nod when their eyes met. The boy nodded back before looking ahead again.
“The sky was pretty,” he muttered, smiling down at his sister before looking to Rhaella. “I suppose we can live here until I convince you otherwise.”
“It is to be seen who convinces whom,” Rhaella chirped with a chuckle.
They reached the entrance of the volcano in that instant. They looked up and saw the runes were still held up in the sky, nourishing the island with magical energy.
“I would not have said no to one of those,” Viserys muttered when he noticed the settlers holding the little salamanders in their hands.
The salamanders and the people had united not far from the entrance of the volcano and seemed to be having a silent conversation with each other.
“That reminds me, what happened to Daenerys’ wyvern egg?” Viserys asked his mother the next moment.
“I felt it stirring an hour ago,” she answered with a hand on her chin before picking the little girl up in her arms. “Shall we check on your dragon, my love?”
She asked the girl and got an emphatic nod from her. Rhaella glanced at Viserys in a silent question asking if he wished to join.
“I wish to explore more of the island with Skoll,” Viserys answered.
He heard a laugh from behind him before he was picked up by Skoll and placed on his shoulder.
“On we go then,” Skoll said and gave the chuckling Rhaella a nod before he started walking away with Viserys on his shoulder.
Rhaella formed a barrier around Daenerys before they both were teleported to the volcano chamber where the egg was kept. It was sitting on an altar of molten lava, shaking and moving around as if it was about to burst.
“He wished to be near you as he arrives in the world,” Rhaella whispered to Daenerys before walking over to the egg and holding the little hand of the girl.
She extended her hand and placed it on the egg as it started moving even more violently.
“He seems happy,” Daenerys said with a giggle.
Her eyes shone in a violet glow as she looked at the egg. The Wampus cat heartstring she absorbed seemed to have aided the mental connection Daenerys was developing with the wyvern inside the shell.
Unlike the violent eruption that usually happens when a wyvern egg of this world hatches, this one was much different.
Rhaella observed as the shell of the egg started dissolving into a liquid form. It began seeping into Daenerys through the hand she had placed on the egg.
She used her magical senses to the maximum as she observed the process, ready to stop it instantly if it caused any harm to her little girl.
After the process was complete, the shell had completely dissolved into Daenerys’ body, leaving a curious wyvern behind.
The wyvern had scales so dark they seemed to be dimming the room around them, and violet eyes matching Daenarys’ own.
The girl opened her arms wide as she saw the wyvern. The creature leaped onto her and made itself comfortable in her arms as if they had just concluded a silent conversation.
“Shall we?” Rhaella muttered as she was about to teleport away.
She got no response from the girl, as Daenerys was busy kissing the snout of her wyvern. Rhaella chuckled before looking toward the volcano one last time as she teleported away.
She had been noticing a strange energy, like an aura in the volcano that seemed to permeate the rock itself.
However, she could not find the being the aura belonged to, as it seemed to be originating from the volcano itself.
There was no intent in it and it seemed more like a memory than the power of a living being, so she let it be and did not think much of it for now.
