When she returned to the house after showing her children her new form, she had explained the broad strokes of what had happened to Ser Willem.
Skoll returned a few moments later and provided them with their own rooms within the estate.
And even though it was not late, Rhaella tucked her children into bed as They were exhausted by the strange revelations of the day and the weight of being in what looked like a new world to them.
Rhaella returned to the living room and found Skoll and Willem sitting by the hearth while Hati lay curled in front of the flames.
“How are you adjusting, My Lady?” Skoll asked as he saw her approach.
“It feels as though there is nothing to adjust to. It is as if I have always been a dragon,” Rhaella said. She sat beside Skoll with a quiet smile.
Skoll nodded in understanding.
“Mord,” he called out.
The inhabitants of the room heard a sharp pop beside them.
A well mannered, short, green skinned creature in fine clothes stood there with his hands behind his back. He had large grey eyes and pointed ears that served as his most prominent features.
“Yes, Custodian?” Mord asked with a slight bow.
“Bring us some tea, please,” Skoll requested as he inclined his head toward the house elf.
Mord answered with a nod and popped away to prepare the beverage.
“Who is that?” Ser Willem asked cautiously, he had gotten less jumpy because of Skoll.
“He is a House Elf. Him and three of his brothers have sworn themselves to me and my brothers. They handle the households for every one of us,” Skoll explained.
“Call his name if you ever need anything and he will answer from anywhere in the world.” He added, to which Rhaella and Willem just nodded.
At that moment, the elf popped back into the room. He served them tea with practiced ease and vanished again without another word.
Rhaella nodded in thanks, prompting Ser Willem to do the same. The old knight sipped his tea and let out a content sigh.
“And Ser Willem, make sure to treat him with courtesy,” Skoll said after a moment. He knew the personality of the knight and his tendency toward being too stern towards everyone except the Targaryens.
Ser Willem sighed before nodding. He considered that he might have been too harsh on the servants in his own household in the past, driven by his distrust of anyone who might be in a position to harm his charges.
“Are those books about magic?” Rhaella asked. She pointed to a small bookshelf Skoll had constructed in the living room.
“Yes, shadow and fire magic mostly. These are my notes and the spells I made on these subjects,” Skoll explained.
He raised his hand and a single book flew toward him. He handed the volume to Rhaella and gestured for her to open it.
She did so and read the first few pages with fascination. She found that she understood what was written because of her innate magical compatibility and the fact that these were less complex spells.
“You can read them or keep them as you wish,” Skoll said with a shrug.
Rhaella smiled before waving her hand. The book flew back to its shelf as she resolved to study the contents at a later time.
Ser Willem marveled at how easy and natural magic appeared for his queen mother.
He had experienced enough revelations for a single day, so he excused himself and retired to his room for a night of sleep.
Rhaella and Skoll spoke about Nightshade and the nature of magic for a while longer. Eventually, Rhaella excused herself as well, citing that she had business to attend to.
She kissed Skoll’s forehead as a goodnight and vanished in a spark of red light.
The next moment, she found herself in Pentos. She floated above the mansion of a wealthy merchant with her wings and horns visible, her wings flapping slowly to keep her aloft.
She looked down to concentrate on her objective before teleporting again. She appeared inside a large, dark vault.
Her eyes shined red, ensuring the darkness of the vault did not hinder her. She could see as clearly as if it were day.
She focused on the three eggs that were connected to her daughter through fate. She made a gesture that caused the eggs to float in front of her.
They were beautiful. One was black and scarlet, another was green and bronze, and the third was cream and gold.
Rhaella nodded and placed the eggs back into the box they were in and teleported back to the house.
She appeared in the room where her children were sleeping and placed the box in a corner. She sat on a chair beside them and summoned the book she had started reading earlier.
The next morning, Daenerys woke up before Viserys. She rubbed her eyes and sat up before she felt someone pick her up.
The girl saw the smiling face of Rhaella and offered a smile of her own before hugging her mother’s neck.
They did not speak because Viserys was still sleeping. Rhaella swayed Daenerys in her arms and moved around the room as they waited for the boy to wake.
After a few moments of that the caretaker Daenerys entered the room and smiled softly at the scene.
“Bathe and ready her, dear,” Rhaella said softly. She placed the girl in the arms of the maid before she left.
Viserys woke up just as the maid was departing and saw his mother standing in the room.
“Mother?” he asked groggily as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes.
“Yes, my love. How did you sleep?” Rhaella asked him, as he moved to his side.
“Peacefully,” Viserys answered. He sat up on the bed and looked at her with a slight smile.
“What is the secret behind this smile of yours?” she asked with an amused glint in her eyes.
“I just remembered how, when I was a child, the first thing I saw in the morning was you sitting by my bed almost every day,” Viserys answered.
Rhaella chuckled to herself as she remembered those days. She used to go to his room in the mornings to remind herself that life was worth living, even while enduring the cruelty of the Mad King.
“You are still a child, dear,” Rhaella whispered to herself solemnly. She observed how much her son had been forced to grow up in such a short time. “Come, let me show you something.”
She took the hand of Viserys and led him to the box in the corner. Before opening it, she crouched to his eye level and held his shoulders.
“Before I show you this, I want you to know one thing. You are just as special as your sister and I love you both equally. But it seems your threads of fate have not been woven yet,” Rhaella assured him.
Viserys did not fully understand what she meant by threads of fate, but he nodded because he understood the love she wanted to convey. Rhaella nodded back before she opened the box.
“These are dragon eggs?” Viserys whispered in awe.
He reached out to touch one of them but frowned when he found it to be cold and as hard as stone.
“These have turned to stone, mother. I am certain we can find some live ones here,” Viserys said, pulling his hand back in disappointment.
His spirits were not dampened for long, as they were now in Nightshade. He had learned that dragons existed here, though they were called wyverns for some reason.
“These are destined for your sister. And you are right, we can find some for you in the future,” Rhaella said before closing the box.
Viserys tilted his head in thought. It seemed to him that his mother had a way to breathe life into the eggs, which did not surprise him. In his eyes, she was a dragon goddess now.
He was somewhat surprised that all three were fated for his sister, as there had never been a Targaryen who tamed more than one dragon.
“Daenerys is as much a dragon as you and I, mother. I am certain my destiny will open itself to me sooner or later,” he said with a shrug before moving back to his bed.
Rhaella smiled at the maturity her son showed. She felt a surge of hope that he would not grow to be like his father.
