“Here you go, have some candy!” Leigh Miles pulled a handful of candy from her pocket and stuffed it into the little girl’s hand.

Quentin Stone froze. He looked up and stared at Aurora Sinclair for a long moment. Then, with a loud CRACK, the piece of wood in his hands split in two and fell to the ground.

“Rory, you’re back?” his gruff voice was filled with delight.

He strode over, stood in front of Aurora Sinclair, and clapped her on the shoulder, booming, “Rory, you’ve gotten taller!”

Then, as if remembering something, he suddenly turned and ran into the house. “Rory, wait a second!”

Carrying the wine, Aurora Sinclair carefully navigated around some finished pieces in the courtyard and went inside.

She saw Quentin Stone bent over, rummaging through chests and cupboards for something.

After a moment, he pulled out a dirt-caked wooden tablet, wiped it on his pants, and pressed it into Aurora Sinclair’s hand.

“Rory, keep this safe!”
