Aurora Sinclair suddenly turned her head. She stared at the woman in surprise for a moment, then shot to her feet, rushed over, and gripped her by the shoulders. “How do you know that song?”

The woman ignored her and continued to hum, tears streaming from her eyes as if from a deep sorrow.

“Aurora, is something wrong with the song?” Alvin Morgan came over.

Aurora Sinclair turned, her eyes filled with a complex emotion. “My mother used to sing it…”

The chains binding the woman on the floor were long. They stretched from the Nutrition Repair Chamber, allowing her to reach the glass-walled room on the opposite side.

Aurora Sinclair immediately stood up and walked toward the room.

It was very clean inside, with a bathroom and a toilet.

There was a small single bed, and a few changes of clothes were laid on a nearby cabinet.

Next to the pillow were several biology books. On top of the stack was a pocket watch.

“Morgan, do you know him?”

The words had barely left his mouth when the woman’s body trembled. She scrambled to her feet, agitated. “What did you take?”

She struggled to get closer, but the chains held her back, keeping her from reaching the computer desk.

“What’s your name?” Alvin Morgan tossed the pocket watch to her.

The woman clutched the watch tightly, her panicked expression softening as if she’d found an anchor.

“It’s been a long time since anyone asked me that question.”

She suddenly laughed, a desolate sound.

Alvin Morgan guessed she might be related to Professor Young. He glanced at Aurora Sinclair, then said to the woman in a level voice, “I can get you out of here, but you’ll have to stay here for two more days.”

The woman stared at him in disbelief, her silver pupils seeming to brighten. “You’ll really get me out?”

“I’ll take you back to Veridia.”

After copying all the files from the lab, the two prepared to leave.

As they walked away, the woman called out to their backs, “What I said about becoming a God wasn’t just mad rambling! Professor Young had already found a way to unlock one’s full potential while suppressing the ancestral genes. It’s a shame those short-sighted fools in the Young Family had him killed. Serves them right!”

Aurora Sinclair glanced back, feeling that the woman was telling the truth.

“An outsider wants to meddle in the affairs of The Eastern Highlands? Make him shut his mouth tomorrow.” The bald, one-eyed man replied, a knowing look in his eye. The subordinate understood instantly.

The passageway was narrow, only wide enough for one person to pass through. To eavesdrop, they both had their backs against the wall, straining to hear.

Aurora Sinclair looked up abruptly, just as his lips brushed gently against her forehead.
