Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Please Learn to Stay Calm
As a physics teacher, Gloria Alden was well aware of Aurora Sinclair’s entrance exam scores. She despised students who got in through connections, seeing them as nothing but dead weight.
For a senior class, every student’s college entrance exam score was a matter of professional pride, reflecting the teachers’ three years of hard work. If Aurora Sinclair performed poorly, she wouldn’t just lower the class average; she would also affect Gloria’s chances for a promotion.
Back when Crystal Warner had asked them to take on the student, Gloria had been so focused on refusing that she’d forgotten she was also the physics teacher for Class 6.
The thought of this oversight was like a fishbone in her throat; she couldn’t rest until she’d spoken her mind.
When the remaining students in Class 6 heard this, their expressions shifted. ’So she’s one of those who got in through the back door!’
Almost every student in the class had earned their spot at Kingsford No. 1 High School on the merit of their middle school entrance exam scores. Even transfer students had to pass a difficult test and get in with outstanding results.
It was rare to see a student with connections, let alone one so openly despised by a teacher.
Everyone silently glanced back at Ethan Lowell’s empty seat.
’Another big shot just here to coast for a diploma!’
***
As Aurora Sinclair was leaving the school, she happened to run into Ethan Lowell and his group.
The boys were surprised to see her, and Alex Warren even stepped forward to ask, “Sinclair, you’re skipping self-study too?”
Aurora Sinclair nodded and then walked toward a black sedan.
An older man in a black butler’s uniform got out of the passenger seat and personally opened the car door for her, a clear sign of a wealthy family’s style.
Ethan Lowell glanced at the license plate, his eyes narrowing slightly.
“Boss, is she from your circle?” Alex Warren asked enviously, sucking on a lollipop.
Ethan Lowell looked at the car again, his brow furrowing. “Never seen her before!”
The sedan carrying Aurora Sinclair headed straight for the College of Physics on Arcadian University’s campus.
Butler Sinclair led her into a white, ten-story building designated as the Physics Experiment Building.
The room where Chester Greene held his tutoring sessions was at the very end of the top floor. As the two walked, they drew many curious glances from students.
She could faintly hear them murmuring, “Are all high school students this pretty nowadays?”
“Judging by the uniform, she’s from Kingsford No. 1 High. She’s probably an early admit for physics. Looks like we’ll have a pretty new junior in September!”
“I call dibs on this one, don’t you guys fight me for her…”
Benjamin Morgan, who was conducting an experiment in a nearby lab, clearly noticed the face of the man next to him darken.
He said cautiously, “Sir, I’ll go remind them about lab discipline!”
Benjamin Morgan had already heard the legendary stories about this Second Miss Sinclair from Beta and Dean Morgan.
Grew up in Sunstone.
Combat Power at the Great Martial Sect Level.
Unknowingly holding a treasure worth hundreds of millions.
Their master had broken his own rule of not meddling in others’ affairs for her.
…
“Go buy a chicken leg over rice. Get two chicken legs.”
Benjamin Morgan: …
’He’s breaking another rule!’
***
The room Aurora Sinclair entered was Chester Greene’s office. It was spacious, with a large desk, a computer, and surrounding bookshelves stacked with many physics-related books.
His desk, which was usually covered with physics research materials, was now piled high with high school science exams.
Chester Greene’s face lit up when he saw Aurora Sinclair. He smiled and welcomed her in. “Aurora, come have a seat over here!”
There was a new chair next to the desk, clearly brought in especially for Aurora Sinclair.
She walked in slowly, politely greeted him as “Mr. Greene,” then took off her backpack and sat primly in the chair.
Chester Greene was most familiar with physics, so he started by picking out a physics test for her. “Do the problems circled in red within half an hour. If you don’t know one, just leave it blank.”
Aurora Sinclair nodded, slowly picked up her pen, and began to answer the questions.
The problems were all fundamental questions that Chester Greene had carefully selected to test whether Aurora Sinclair’s foundational knowledge was solid.
In less than twenty minutes, Aurora Sinclair put down her pen.
Chester Greene gave her a surprised look, then took the test paper and began to grade it.
’They’re all correct?’
Although they were basic questions, the wording was full of traps. The slightest carelessness could lead to a wrong answer.
Chester Greene pulled out another workbook and handed it to Aurora Sinclair. He circled a few more problems and asked her to finish them within half an hour as well.
But once again, she finished early, and every answer was correct!
Chester Greene was a bit bewildered.
’This can’t be right!’
’Beta Morgan said this girl had always studied in a small town and had a terrible foundation, didn’t he?’
Just as he was reaching for a book of higher-level physics competition problems, the office door opened.
Benjamin Morgan walked in carrying a high-end paper bag, followed by the “idler,” Alvin Morgan.
“Professor Greene, you can continue the lesson later. Let’s eat first!”
Aurora Sinclair had never seen Benjamin Morgan before and glanced at him curiously for a moment before her attention was completely captured by the appearance of Alvin Morgan.
Her eyes held a questioning look, as if asking, ’What are you doing here?’
Alvin Morgan leaned casually against a bookshelf, a smirk playing on his lips. “He’s my senior.”
Aurora Sinclair glanced back and forth between the two of them several times before nodding at him.
Her eyes conveyed her thanks, but her face remained expressionless.
’This girl really is cold!’
Opening his food container, Chester Greene glanced at his own small chicken leg, then at the container opposite him, which had two chicken legs. He shot Alvin Morgan a complicated look.
’Talk about playing favorites!’
Benjamin Morgan brought a chair from the next room and placed it next to Aurora Sinclair. Alvin Morgan then sat down, casually reaching out to flip through the test paper Aurora had just completed.
“Aurora’s physics foundation is very good!” Chester Greene said oddly as he took a sip of soup.
Alvin Morgan glanced at the girl quietly nibbling on her chicken leg beside him. He said nothing, simply picking up the other physics papers and starting to look through them, circling problems as he went. Chester Greene’s eyes nearly popped out of his head watching him.
’Don’t tell me this big shot is going to personally pick out questions to test her?’
He recalled the magnificent scene from a few years ago when this big shot, on a whim, had set the final exam questions for the College of Physics and ended up failing more than half the students.
A shiver involuntarily ran down his spine.
Aurora Sinclair ate quickly and had a large appetite. In less than ten minutes, she had cleaned out the entire container, not leaving a single grain of rice.
Alvin Morgan then took out a carton of yogurt from nearby and handed it to her. The gesture was like that of a doting father feeding his daughter.
Benjamin Morgan’s mouth twitched. He suddenly remembered a message his Second Brother had sent in the Morgan Brothers’ group chat.
[If the Second Miss Sinclair is present, please learn to remain calm!]
***
It took Aurora Sinclair an hour to complete the problems Alvin Morgan had circled, leaving only two of the major questions blank.
For every question she answered, her accuracy rate was still one hundred percent.
Alvin Morgan glanced at the beyond-syllabus questions she had left blank and asked lightly, “Why do you aim for a 60 in every subject?”
Aurora Sinclair seemed genuinely puzzled. “Master said 60 is a very good score!”
The three men: …
’This master of hers must have nerves of steel!’
Alvin Morgan propped his head up with one hand, his lips curving into a handsome arc. He reached out and patted her head. “In Kingsford, an 80 is also acceptable!”
Aurora Sinclair nodded. ’Grandpa also wants me to get an 80!’
Next, Alvin Morgan personally selected problems for her in the other subjects. The situation was the same as with physics: for any question covering topics from the textbooks, her accuracy was one hundred percent. But whenever a question went beyond the syllabus, she left it blank.
Alvin Morgan looked over these beyond-syllabus questions again. They were mostly competition-level problems, covering concepts that wouldn’t be taught until university.
He stood up, walked over to Chester Greene’s bookshelf, and seemingly at random, pulled out a few books and handed them to Aurora Sinclair.
“The physics concepts for those problems are in these books. Take a look if you’re interested!”
Aurora Sinclair nodded again and said, “Thank you.”
Chester Greene glanced at the books in Aurora Sinclair’s hands. They were all first-year physics major textbooks. The content was fundamental and perfectly suited for Aurora’s current stage.
He felt that Aurora Sinclair didn’t really need any tutoring at this point, so he asked, “Did your school assign any homework?”
“Mhm.”
“Then you can work on your homework.”
Aurora Sinclair slowly took out her homework and, under the watchful eyes of the three men, calmly began to work on her school assignments.
Benjamin Morgan secretly took out his phone, snapped a photo of his master watching his “daughter” do her homework, and sent it to the Morgan Brothers’ group chat.
Beta Morgan was the first to reply: From the looks of it, Sir will definitely be a serious and responsible father in the future!
Dean Morgan: …
Aiden Morgan: Is that Sir’s illegitimate daughter?
Benjamin Morgan: …
***
High school homework wasn’t just comprehensive science; there was also liberal arts, language, math, and foreign language.
Aurora Sinclair finished all her assignments quickly, but the foreign language homework stumped her.
The assignment required her to read a foreign language passage aloud until she was familiar with it and then memorize several paragraphs.
Her school in the small town hardly ever practiced speaking, and she wasn’t one to talk much anyway.
Aurora Sinclair stared at the foreign language book in front of her, unable to utter a single sound for a long time.
Alvin Morgan pulled the book a little closer to himself and read the first sentence aloud. His accent was flawless, just like a native speaker’s.
“I’ll read a sentence, and you repeat after me…”
Watching the two of them, who looked like a baby learning its first words, Chester Greene suddenly felt that he, the tutor, was about to be put out of a job.
Benjamin Morgan secretly recorded another short video of the “Alvin Morgan-style” teaching session and sent it to the group chat.
This time, the usually taciturn Dean Morgan unprecedentedly typed out a full sentence.
[Is she really not Sir’s illegitimate daughter?]
