Chapter 37: WTF, I Think I’m the One Who Bought This
Chapter 37: Chapter 37: WTF, I Think I’m the One Who Bought This
The boy was a top athlete from First City High School. He had won many major Martial Arts awards, and his Combat Power was considered the highest among the seniors, having already reached Great Warrior Second Rank.
It was said that the people at the Kingsford Martial Alliance thought highly of him and planned to invite him to join the association after he broke through Great Warrior Ninth Rank and became a martial master.
But right now, his face was contorted in pain as Aurora Sinclair held his wrist in a one-handed grip, his body completely powerless to resist.
“Let him go—”
One of the other boys tried to rush forward and save him, but Aurora Sinclair easily dodged him. With a simple backhanded push, she sent him stumbling back five or six steps.
The boy clutched the spot where he’d been pushed, staring at her in disbelief.
’Fuck! How is this girl so strong?’
Her move stunned the other boys. Their expressions varied, but their eyes all grew wary.
When Aurora Sinclair moved, her stance was incredibly stable. You could tell at a glance that she was skilled in martial arts.
The boy from First City High, whose wrist was still being crushed, finally couldn’t take the pain anymore. He started begging for mercy, “I was wrong! I’m sorry! Let go… My hand is going to break…”
Aurora Sinclair slowly released her grip. The boy instantly collapsed to the floor. A ghastly purple-blue bruise was already forming on his wrist, a shocking sight to behold.
“Red Armor.”
Aurora Sinclair slowly walked up to Gideon Alden. Her face was completely expressionless, which made his blood run cold.
“Wha… what Red Armor…?” Gideon Alden tried to play dumb, even shooting a look at the boy behind Aurora Sinclair.
“Aurora, look out—” Zeke Quincy yelled.
The boy behind her suddenly reached out, aiming for her shoulder—
Just as he thought he had her, Aurora Sinclair spun around and executed a swift grapple. She twisted the boy’s arm behind his back and shoved him to the ground, simultaneously taking a half-step forward to grab Gideon Alden’s arm as he launched his own sneak attack.
He felt a sharp pain in his arm, and all the strength in his body vanished in an instant. A powerful tug threw him off balance, and Aurora Sinclair slammed him down hard on top of the other boy.
The impact looked painful. The two failed ambushers lay sprawled on the ground, groaning in agony.
The boys crowded around instinctively took several steps back, their wariness turning to outright fear.
’Is this really some fucking delicate girl?’
After a few dozen seconds of stunned silence, Zeke Quincy’s classmates finally snapped out of it. They broke into wide, toothy grins, their eyes shining brighter and brighter as they looked at Aurora Sinclair.
’Holy shit! The goddess is so fucking awesome! She’s an absolute beast!’
’We kneel before you!’
“Red Armor.”
Aurora Sinclair walked up to Gideon Alden again and crouched down, her gaze calm as she looked at him. The two boys were so scared they forgot their pain, shrinking back in fear that she would strike again.
Gideon Alden had lost all his composure. He didn’t even bother to pick up his fallen glasses, his voice trembling as he said, “Give it to her… Hurry up and give her Red Armor—”
***
After Gideon Alden and his group left, the private room fell silent.
Zeke Quincy stared at Aurora Sinclair with a complicated expression, unable to say a word for a long time.
The three boys across from him were staring with wide eyes, looking at her with such adoration they were one step away from kneeling in worship.
Aurora Sinclair glanced at the takeout on the table and asked, “Can we eat now?”
Her words seemed to ignite the entire room. The three boys quickly grabbed the takeout bags, their faces full of eager devotion as they said, “Goddess, Boss, please, eat—”
Zeke Quincy had ordered a family bucket of takeout, which was full of fried chicken legs and wings. Aurora Sinclair’s eyes lit up as she reached out, grabbed a drumstick, and started to gnaw on it.
“Boss, don’t choke! Quick, drink some Coke—”
“Goddess, there are burgers and fries here too. Please, have some more…”
Aurora Sinclair nodded at them while gnawing on her drumstick.
Seeing her acknowledge them, the three boys all broke into goofy grins. They looked so stupid that Zeke Quincy could barely stand to watch.
’So fucking embarrassing!’
’Are these really the elites of Class A?’
Seeing how heartily Aurora Sinclair was eating, Zeke Quincy also reached for a drumstick, but one of the boys smacked the back of his hand. “Young Master Shawn, those are the Goddess’s drumsticks! You can have a burger—”
Another one of his classmates shot Zeke Quincy a glare and possessively pushed the family bucket closer to Aurora Sinclair.
Zeke Quincy: …
’I’m the one who fucking bought this!’
After happily devouring an entire family bucket by herself, Aurora Sinclair finally stopped. She looked quizzically at the four boys gathered around her. “Aren’t you guys going to eat?”
Zeke Quincy’s mouth twitched. ’Talk about being slow on the uptake!’
He forced a smile. “We’ll have the burgers…”
Aurora Sinclair glanced at the few unopened burgers on the side and nodded. She picked up a napkin to wipe her fingers, then sat back down in her original spot, getting ready to play her game.
Just then, one of the boys couldn’t help but ask, “Goddess, what’s your Combat Power?”
Aurora Sinclair didn’t understand. “What’s Combat Power?”
The boy was dumbfounded. “You know, the personal combat levels defined by The International Martial Alliance! There are eight levels in total, from Martial Artist to Martial King. Which level are you at now?”
Aurora Sinclair stared at him in confusion for a long moment before shaking her head. “I don’t know.”
“Holy shit! B-B-Boss, you’ve never had your Combat Power tested?”
Aurora Sinclair shook her head again.
The three boys turned to Zeke Quincy in unison, their eyes full of reproach, all but accusing him: ’Why haven’t you taken the Goddess to get her Combat Power tested?’
Zeke Quincy rubbed his nose, feeling immense pressure.
“Aurora, how about we go to my uncle’s boxing gym to test your Combat Power?”
The three boys’ eyes lit up as they all looked at her.
Aurora Sinclair thought for a moment, then nodded.
The three boys let out a shriek, more excited than if they were getting their own Combat Power tested.
***
The group moved from the internet cafe to the boxing gym owned by Tanner Sinclair.
Zeke Quincy often came here to see Tanner Sinclair, so the staff at the boxing gym all knew him.
“Young Master, you’re here. The boss is in the VIP room.” The gym manager was very familiar with Zeke Quincy and knew he was definitely here to see Tanner Sinclair.
Zeke Quincy didn’t go right away. Instead, he asked to be taken to the gym’s testing room. “Mr. Lawson, take us to the testing room!”
“Did you have another breakthrough, Young Master?” The manager looked startled for a moment, then his eyes began to gleam.
Besides his love for gaming, Zeke Quincy also enjoyed boxing. His Combat Power was at Warrior Eighth Rank, which was not weak for his age. If he had another breakthrough, there was a good chance the Kingsford Martial Alliance might take notice of his talent.
Zeke Quincy pointed at Aurora Sinclair. “Not me. Test her. This is my cousin, Aurora Sinclair.”
Sebastian Lawson froze. He had, of course, heard of Aurora Sinclair—the young niece his boss talked about constantly—but he’d never had the chance to meet her.
Now that he saw her, she really did look a lot like his boss. They both had the same almond-shaped eyes.
A smile immediately spread across his face as he tried to get a feel for the situation with Aurora Sinclair. “Miss Sinclair, have you ever had your Combat Power tested before?”
Aurora Sinclair shook her head. “No.”
“Then do you have any assessment of your own strength?”
Aurora Sinclair still didn’t know.
Sebastian Lawson was a bit baffled. ’Didn’t she train in martial arts in the mountains since she was a child? How could she not know her own Combat Power?’
Filled with doubt, he led the group to the testing room.
The International Martial Alliance had two criteria for determining an individual’s combat level: Punching Power and Punch Speed.
Reaching a Punching Power of 600 or a Punch Speed of 0.3s meant you had officially entered the ranks of martial practitioners and had to abide by the laws and regulations for Martial Artists in Veridia. This was because it was the minimum standard set by The International Martial Alliance for the lowest-level Martial Artist.
In reality, however, personal strength couldn’t be judged solely on Punching Power and Punch Speed. There were also corresponding evaluations and a comprehensive assessment required to obtain an official combat Level.
Therefore, these criteria were merely a reference for unofficial Martial Artists. To obtain an officially recognized strength level, one still had to go to the local Martial Association for the proper assessments.
***
Inside the testing room was a machine that measured Punching Power and Punch Speed. The person being tested had to wear special boxing gloves and strike the center of the punching target with their full strength.
A system would then automatically determine the user’s punching power and speed, displaying the results on an adjacent screen. The machine was a civilian model produced by The International Martial Alliance, with a margin of error not exceeding 0.01.
“Miss Sinclair, put on these gloves and hit the center of this target as hard as you can.” Sebastian Lawson handed the gloves to Aurora Sinclair and switched on the machine.
The special gloves were different from ordinary ones; they were covered in many fine black wires that connected to the machine.
The cuffs of the gloves were long, covering nearly all of Aurora Sinclair’s wrists, and the inner fabric clung tightly to her skin.
Aurora Sinclair put on the gloves. After Sebastian Lawson yelled “Begin,” she threw a seemingly effortless punch at the target’s center.
The red light on the testing machine turned yellow, and a single word appeared on the screen: Analyzing.
All four boys held their breath, staring motionlessly at the display. In less than fifteen seconds, the light on the machine turned green, and three lines of text appeared on the screen.
