Chapter 222 - 216: Alpha Still Despised Him as Always
Chapter 222: Chapter 216: Alpha Still Despised Him as Always
“DAF is currently way behind. In a match without Windwalker, Master Rory, and the King of Night, Joanna has become the team’s core player. Can she lead this group of newcomers to an upset victory? We’ll have to wait and see…”
The tablet was playing a recorded video of a DAF regular season match.
Beside her, Aurora Sinclair’s new phone was auto-playing a voice message Seth Sterling had left her.
“Aurora, you’re incredible! How did you know Master Rory and the King of Night wouldn’t be there?”
“Luckily I listened to you and didn’t go. A ton of fans from the group chat went to the venue. I heard the plane tickets alone cost several thousand.”
“Aurora, can you get me autographs from Master Rory and the others?”
Hearing this, Aurora Sinclair pulled out a napkin, wiped her greasy hands, and tapped the voice reply button.
“I can get Master Rory’s, but no promises on the others.”
Across from her, Beta Morgan, who was drinking soup, nearly spat it all out.
’When did this girl get so devious?’
“Then get me a few! Thanks, super-fan…”
Aurora Sinclair sent back an “OK” emoji, then sent a voice message to Leigh Miles.
“Sign ten Master Rory autographs and mail them to Seth Sterling in the archeology department.”
“PFFT… COUGH, COUGH, COUGH…”
Aurora Sinclair looked up at him in confusion for a moment, then scooted her chicken leg a little farther away.
“COUGH, COUGH… Aurora, you’re having Leigh sign your own autographs?”
Aurora Sinclair shook her head. “No. Ditto Miles is signing them.”
“…”
Beta Morgan glanced at his master, who was reading quietly nearby. He felt a deep sense of misery. ’That’s a new-generation smart butler robot, and it’s just being used to forge handwriting?’
“Hahaha… Aurora, your signed merch is already selling for 100,000 yuan. Based on the commission, you’ll get 30,000. Luna is getting ready to hire people for customer service to expand the business…”
Leigh Miles’s voice was filled with the joy of making money.
A while ago, Luna Jennings had used her connection to Aurora Sinclair to land a part-time job inside DAF, becoming a junior planner for the team’s official merchandise webstore.
Unexpectedly, the once-unremarkable webstore was now thriving under Luna Jennings’s management.
Seeing this, Arthur Lockwood made a sweeping gesture and put her directly in charge of all Master Rory merchandise. Her part-time salary instantly jumped into the tens of thousands.
Leigh Miles had been green with envy and started working as a part-time customer service rep yesterday as well.
Aurora Sinclair, gnawing on a chicken leg, replied, “Don’t let it get in the way of your studies.”
Beta Morgan choked again when he heard that. ’Isn’t that what his master always says to her?’
“Aurora, have fun, and remember to bring me back some local specialties.”
“I’m not on vacation. It’s for work.”
Beta Morgan wiped his mouth and decided to stop eating. Listening to Aurora Sinclair’s conversations was a choking hazard.
***
The Western Nation of Masovia was an energy-rich country, and its citizens were filthy rich.
Half of the world’s top ten wealthiest people were from Masovia.
Being so rich, they spent vast sums of money to purchase the world’s most advanced weaponry and security systems, hiring numerous A-level Mercenaries to form a formidable security force.
But even that couldn’t stop factions from coming to illegally open gold mines. As a result, Masovia was also a notorious paradise for mercenaries, a lawless and chaotic place with many ungoverned territories.
“Sir, our number seven mine’s been hit again.”
“Bullshit! Which son of a bitch did it?” A tall, blond, blue-eyed man hopped up and down in anger like a child.
“The Oasis Pirates.”
“Bastards! Brothers, grab your weapons—” The hot-tempered blond man shouldered some kind of cannon and was about to run out.
“Wait, sir. They brought two Eastern Highlanders with them this time.”
The blond man froze, a hint of caution appearing in his eyes. “Are you sure the Eastern Highlanders were there?”
“Positive. They were wearing cloaks and had light gray pupils.”
The Eastern Highlands was an ungoverned region on the border between Masovia and a neighboring country. It was extremely chaotic and a hiding place for many wanted criminals.
In recent years, a small group of people whose pupils and hair could change color had suddenly appeared in The Eastern Highlands. Their power was terrifying, causing major headaches for the factions in Masovia and the surrounding nations.
The blond man’s expression grew much more serious. “Let’s go take a look first…”
***
Meanwhile, a private jet landed on the airstrip of a certain faction.
It was surrounded by a ring of fully armed Ironblood Mercenaries. They carried heavy machine guns, with belts of ammunition wrapped around their bodies.
Each one of them exuded a murderous aura; it was clear they were battlefield veterans.
“Master…”
A burly man with a thick beard and desert-style sunglasses jumped onto the plane.
He wore a bulletproof vest, with rows of gleaming metal-tipped bullets hanging from his waist. A black wolf’s head was tattooed on his powerful arm. From a distance, he looked every bit the mercenary leader.
Beta Morgan’s eyes lit up, and he spread his arms to greet him. “Alpha…”
“What are you doing here? Where’s Dixon?” Aiden Morgan’s brow furrowed, and he raised a hand to stop Beta Morgan’s enthusiastic hug.
Beta Morgan’s eyes shone. “The Master had me come this time. Dixon is at home watching the kid…”
Aiden Morgan glanced at him, seemingly displeased, and strode toward the inner cabin.
“Master…”
Just as he opened the small door, he saw a beautiful girl walking toward him, head down, looking at her phone. His master was following behind her, carrying two suitcases.
The beautiful girl stopped abruptly about three paces in front of him and looked up, studying him with curiosity.
Aiden Morgan looked her over, his brow wrinkling even tighter.
’This is the Master’s sweetheart?’
’She’s so small and skinny, all skin and bones. Is she really that good in a fight?’
He was deeply skeptical.
“Master, the cars are ready. Are we heading back to The Oasis first?”
Alvin Morgan grunted in acknowledgment.
Parked beside the plane were a dozen or so heavy-duty off-road vehicles, each flying a Black Wolf Flag.
This was the flag of Aiden Morgan’s faction in The Western Continent, representing the Black Wolf Mercenary Force.
The story went that Aiden Morgan idolized The Silver Wolf, one of the five great S-level Mercenaries. So, combining that with his master’s moniker, Black, he had named his own group The Black Wolves.
Aurora Sinclair’s eyes narrowed slightly as she looked at the wolf’s head, a glint in her gaze.
“Aurora, pretty awesome, right?” Beta Morgan leaned in and whispered to Aurora Sinclair. He looked thrilled, a strange sense of worship in his eyes.
Aurora Sinclair nodded.
Aiden Morgan frowned and slapped him on the shoulder. “Kid, you’re pretty wound up for your first time here!”
Beta Morgan straightened his back and schooled his expression. “Ready for a mission at any time.”
Aiden Morgan smacked him on the back of the head. “You looking to die?! Get your ass up front.”
Beta Morgan flinched, his expression instantly deflating.
’Alpha was as disgusted with me as ever…’
***
The convoy moved slowly. As they left the airstrip, the road gradually became desolate. There were numerous mines in the area, their perimeters occupied by various factions. In the distance, you could see people standing guard with heavy machine guns on their backs.
Occasionally, a small oasis would appear, with many houses built on it. Flags were planted among them, seemingly marking the territories of different factions.
“Boss, the road ahead is blocked.” Aiden Morgan’s walkie-talkie suddenly crackled.
“Son of a bitch, which damn factions are fighting now?” Aiden Morgan, who had a short temper, stopped the car, opened the door, and got out.
Alvin Morgan coughed lightly and took out a pair of earbuds, handing them to Aurora Sinclair.
“Want to listen to some music?”
Aurora Sinclair nodded, took out her phone, and played a song by Darius Lynch.
As she listened, she actually started to hum along. Hearing her off-key humming, Beta Morgan silently started recording.
Not far ahead, the stone road had been blown up, and the sound of machine-gun fire could be heard in the distance.
“Boss, it’s a clash between the Oasis Pirates and the Miner faction.”
Aiden Morgan’s expression tightened. “You guys take the Master and go the other way. The rest of you, with me. We’re moving up to support.”
The Oasis Pirates were the most unscrupulous faction in this part of The Western Continent, fond of plundering the resources of other groups. Their boss was rumored to have private contact with people from The Shadow, but no one had ever managed to get any proof.
Alvin Morgan glanced at the road and asked calmly, “What’s going on up ahead?”
The Black Wolf Mercenary driving replied respectfully, “Two factions are in a firefight.”
“Which two?”
“The Oasis Pirates and the Miners.”
Alvin Morgan raised an eyebrow and looked down at his phone. After opening a certain page, he indeed saw several messages.
[Miner] Bastards! The mine’s been hit again. Those bandits from the Oasis Pirates.
[Miner] Black, get your people over here to help! My damn mine got hit again!!!
[Miner] Black, you there?
[Miner] Help! I’ll give you half of mine #3…
The corners of Alvin Morgan’s mouth slowly curled up. He typed a few words:
[I want two-thirds.]
