Chapter 57: Chapter 54: Martial Lord White Comes Online
After she spoke, the entire room fell silent. Master Sinclair’s gaze darkened, and he lowered his eyes without a word.
Jean Quincy asked in disbelief, “Why? Are you not going to university?”
Aurora Sinclair shook her head again. “There are no universities in Sunstone Town.”
“You don’t actually want to stay in Sunstone your whole life, do you?”
Aurora didn’t reply, but her meaning was perfectly clear. She intended to stay in Sunstone for the rest of her life!
The atmosphere in the room turned strange again. Jean Quincy’s mouth hung slightly open, as if she were stunned by Aurora’s decision.
Zeke Quincy glanced at the downcast Master Sinclair and broke the silence in the room. “Aurora, you haven’t been online in ages. Come on, I’ll help you level up.”
Aurora Sinclair nodded and followed him out of the bedroom. Seeing them both leave, Jean Quincy hurried after them.
’I really don’t get why Aurora wants to go back!’
Master Sinclair sat alone in silence for a while, then sighed self-deprecatingly. “Forrest, did I make the wrong choice back then?”
Butler Sinclair took a step forward and replied comfortingly, “Family Head, you were only doing what you thought was best for the Second Miss.”
“But she doesn’t want to come back…”
“The Second Miss is still young. Naturally, she doesn’t understand the difficult position you were in, Family Head.” Butler Sinclair recalled the events of that year, a complex mix of emotions churning within him.
***
Butler Sinclair escorted Master Sinclair back to his bedroom. He stood by the door, watching for a long time, a flicker of heartache in his eyes.
He had been by the Family Head’s side since he was a young man, watching his full head of black hair slowly turn to frost at the temples.
Ever since the Second Master and his wife died, his health had declined year by year. Two years ago, he was even diagnosed with a brain tumor, but he kept it a secret from everyone. He forced himself to hold on, waiting for the Second Miss to come of age, waiting for her to return and inherit everything that belonged to the Second Master.
But now…
Butler Sinclair pursed his lips and glanced at the phone in his hand. As if he’d made a momentous decision, he dialed a number.
“Young Lord Morgan, hello. This is Forrest Sinclair, the butler of the Sinclair Family…”
***
「Saturday.」
Butler Sinclair dropped Aurora Sinclair, backpack on, at the entrance of Arcadian University. An extremely ordinary black sedan was parked there, its license plate lacking the “A” prefix.
The Sinclair family car stopped a short distance from the black sedan. As usual, Butler Sinclair got out of the passenger seat and opened the door for Aurora.
“Second Miss, have a relaxing day. I will be here to pick you up at 5 p.m.”
Aurora Sinclair nodded and walked toward the black sedan, her backpack still on.
Beta Morgan, wearing sunglasses, opened the rear door for her. Aurora obediently got in.
Inside the car, Alvin Morgan was dressed casually today in a white hoodie and black sweatpants. He looked much younger, and Aurora couldn’t help but steal a few curious glances at him.
“These are clothes from my school days…” Alvin Morgan looked a little unnatural. He stuck one hand in his pocket and coughed lightly into his other, loosely clenched fist.
’Benjamin Morgan told me to wear this. He said it would make it easier to get along with Aurora.’
Aurora Sinclair nodded and looked away.
The car started moving slowly.
She pulled her phone out of her pocket and logged into the mobile game interface for Valoria Veridia.
Alvin Morgan glanced at her screen, a little surprised. “You play games too?”
Aurora Sinclair nodded and even angled her phone screen toward him.
From the rearview mirror, Beta Morgan saw their two heads close together and chuckled to himself. ’The young master is finally acting like a normal person.’
Alvin Morgan watched Master Rory slay monsters the entire time, losing track of the hours.
Suddenly, Aurora Sinclair looked up at him. Because they were so close, Alvin Morgan’s lips almost brushed against her cheek.
Alvin Morgan immediately sat up straight, averted his gaze, and coughed lightly a few more times.
“What is it?” When Alvin Morgan looked at her again, he was met by a pair of beautiful, almond-shaped eyes. Their gaze was so pure it made his heart flutter.
Aurora Sinclair handed him her phone. “You play.”
Alvin Morgan paused for a few seconds, then a faint smile slowly spread across his lips as he took the phone.
On the screen, Master Rory was still jumping around, attacking the monster in front of it, its Skills executed flawlessly.
Aurora Sinclair kept glancing at him, as if she hadn’t expected him to be so good at the game.
Alvin Morgan explained, “I’ve played this game before. I’m in District One. You can add me as a friend.”
With that, Alvin Morgan typed a game ID into the friend search bar: White, and clicked “Add Friend.”
But a pop-up window appeared on the screen.
[This player has disabled friend requests. You cannot add them as a friend.]
Aurora Sinclair blinked at him. Alvin Morgan felt his cheeks grow warm. He pulled out his own phone, re-downloaded the Valoria Veridia mobile client, and logged into the game he hadn’t touched in a long time.
“There!”
Summoner White’s friends list was completely empty, with only one friend: Master Rory. It was a stark contrast to players like Zeke Quincy and Ethan Lowell, whose lists were filled to the brim.
Aurora Sinclair’s eyes widened as she looked at his phone screen. Finally, she reached out, imitating the way Tanner Sinclair would comfort Zeke Quincy, and patted his shoulder sympathetically. “I’ll carry you from now on.”
Alvin Morgan was taken aback for a moment, then his handsome lips curved up again. “Okay,” he said softly.
***
While the two were chatting, a gaming-related topic started trending, eventually hitting the top of the charts and causing an explosion on the Valoria Veridia Veridian server.
#ValoriaVeridiaDistrictOneSummonerWhiteOnline#
Many veteran fans from District One flocked online to see what was happening. Even professional league players logged into their long-dormant accounts on the PC version of the game.
As one of the original players in District One of Valoria Veridia, White was a godlike existence.
Back when PvP first became popular, Veridian players were very weak. In the Valoria Veridia International PvP Arena, there were virtually no Veridian players ranked in the top 500 by combat power score.
As a result, the Veridian server was constantly flamed by players from other countries as the “trash server.”
That was, until Summoner White appeared. He burst onto the scene like a bug in the game itself.
While the Summoner class was simple to operate, its summoned entities had to be captured or crafted by the player, splitting the class into two branches: the Beastmancy and the Weaponry specializations.
And he was the prime example of the Weaponry specialization. All of his summoned weapons were self-crafted, unpredictable, and ever-changing. He crushed all opposition, single-handedly storming the International PvP Arena. In just three days, he achieved a 200-match winning streak, becoming Veridia’s first uncrowned king of PvP.
Through sheer individual skill, he forced the number one ranked player from Crestland to stay offline for an entire week.
From that day on, the Veridian server shed its shameful reputation as the “trash server,” and Summoner White became a legend among Veridian players.
Many young men were inspired by him to start grinding their PvP skills, leading to an ever-flourishing esports scene in Veridia.
***
Alvin Morgan’s account couldn’t be transferred to a different district. If he wanted to team up and play with Aurora Sinclair, their only option was to party up in the cross-server PvP Arena, but Aurora’s current Level wasn’t high enough to meet the entry requirements.
He had no choice but to create a new alternate account, or “smurf,” in District Twelve.
When choosing a name, he took inspiration from Master Rory and typed in two words: Madam Whitlock. He chose the Healer class, commonly known as a “healbot.”
The two added each other as friends again, and then went back to playing their own games.
Alvin Morgan’s exclusive in-game music began to play from the back seat, startling Beta Morgan, who was driving.
When his young master had dominated the scene and become Veridia’s uncrowned king of PvP, EM Group, one of the game’s development companies, had specially created an exclusive BGM for him.
Hearing the familiar music, Beta Morgan’s eyes lit up.
’Is the young master on a rampage again?’
Aurora Sinclair took off her headphones and listened curiously to his game’s background music. “Why is yours different?”
Alvin Morgan raised an eyebrow and smiled. “My Level is high!”
Aurora Sinclair glanced at the Level 1 smurf on his phone screen, pursed her lips, and said nothing.
***
Beta Morgan drove the car into a high-end racing club in the Kingsford Outskirts.
His young master was planning to let Aurora Sinclair experience an F1 race car today.
Beta Morgan sometimes didn’t understand his young master’s train of thought. Butler Sinclair had specifically asked him to persuade Aurora Sinclair not to leave Kingsford, yet he brought her here to play?
“Master, we’re here!”
He pulled the car into a spacious parking lot next to a tall, modern building.
The head of the racing club and a group of bodyguards in black suits came out of the building, standing respectfully by the sedan as they waited for them to exit.
This place was one of Alvin Morgan’s private assets, never publicly announced. Therefore, the outside world had no idea that the financial backer behind this incredibly profitable club was Alvin Morgan.
“Boss…” the manager called out respectfully.
Alvin Morgan nodded at him, waited patiently for Aurora Sinclair to get out of the car, and then very naturally took the backpack from her hand.
“Today, I’m going to teach you how to drive!”
