Chapter 45: Chapter 44: He’s Both Petty and Black-Bellied
Lowell led the two of them through the staff entrance, glancing over his shoulder every so often as if on the lookout for thieves.
Aurora Sinclair looked back in confusion. There was no one behind them.
Jean Quincy whispered to her, “Darius Lynch is so famous, they’re worried about obsessive fans…”
“Huh?”
“I’ll explain when we get back!”
Aurora Sinclair nodded.
“Lawson, they’re here—”
Lowell knocked on the dressing room door. It was opened quickly by a tall, middle-aged man who exuded a powerful aura.
He was Darius Lynch’s ace manager, Byron Lawson.
“Come in—”
Byron Lawson wasn’t a man of many words and seemed rather stern. This personality of his had once drawn criticism from Darius Lynch’s fans, who worried he would attract bad press and make enemies for their idol.
The room was a suite. A bodyguard in black stood in the outer room. Although he was doing his best to restrain the Power of a High Rank Martial Artist, his presence was still too intimidating for anyone to look at directly.
Jean Quincy instinctively moved closer to Aurora Sinclair.
Aurora Sinclair glanced at him, then subtly switched places with Jean Quincy.
Standing in the corner, Elton Morgan glanced at Aurora Sinclair, his muscles instantly tensing.
An invisible confrontation was about to erupt.
“Wait!”
Byron Lawson shot a confused look at Elton Morgan, who rarely spoke.
He watched him walk right up to Aurora Sinclair and look down at her, his gaze wary as he scrutinized her, as if trying to see right through her.
“What is it?” A guarded look appeared in Byron Lawson’s eyes.
Just then, Darius Lynch opened the door to the inner room and his eyes met Aurora Sinclair’s. He immediately choked on his own saliva.
’Holy shit! Isn’t that the girl the little ancestor brought home?’
“Ah—my god! I’m one of your loyal Ice Creams! Can I have your autograph?”
The moment Jean Quincy saw Darius Lynch, she forgot all about the tense atmosphere. Her mind was filled with the man before her, her cheeks flushed red and her eyes wide with excitement.
“Ah, hello… Come on in, both of you!” Darius Lynch held the door open for them.
Elton Morgan took a step back to let Aurora Sinclair pass, but he followed close behind her, his eyes fixed on her.
’This girl’s Combat Power is no less than mine.’
After sitting down, Jean Quincy immediately took a white dust bag from her purse. She even put on a pair of gloves before taking out the jewelry box.
Darius Lynch suppressed his excitement and hurried over. He took the jewelry box with extreme care and examined it closely.
The more he looked, the brighter his eyes became. He murmured in admiration, “It’s absolutely stunning…”
Beside him, the fervent look on Jean Quincy’s face had shifted from Darius Lynch to the jewelry box. She couldn’t help but hold her breath.
“How much did you pay for this?” Darius Lynch asked suddenly.
Jean Quincy froze, subconsciously glancing at Aurora Sinclair. “My cousin gave it to me.”
Darius Lynch’s intense gaze immediately shifted to Aurora Sinclair. He suddenly recalled the scene of her in Alvin Morgan’s study.
’Could she have bought this from Alvin Morgan?’
The more he thought about it, the more convinced he became that the jewelry box had come from Alvin Morgan, and he gritted his teeth hard.
’That damn brat! He actually lied and said he was just holding it for a friend? He’d rather give it to some young girl than let me have one…’
Jean Quincy, who had been watching Darius Lynch the whole time, saw his expression change. Her heart tightened with worry. “Idol, are you okay? Are you feeling unwell?”
Darius Lynch immediately plastered on a smile and praised, “This jewelry box of yours is really something!”
With every word of praise he spoke, Darius Lynch cursed Alvin Morgan in his heart.
Suddenly, as if he’d thought of something, he said to Jean Quincy with a grin, “Miss, could you do me a favor and get something I left in the car from my manager?”
Years of working together allowed Byron Lawson to understand with just a slight narrowing of his eyes. He stood up and played along. “Could you please help me get the gifts Darius Lynch prepared for his fans?”
“Of course, of course…” Jean Quincy immediately shot to her feet, nodding enthusiastically, her face flushed with excitement.
After the two left, Darius Lynch’s expression turned somewhat fawning as he looked at Aurora Sinclair.
“So, miss, what’s your name? And what’s your relationship with my dear Whitlock?”
Inside the room, Elton Morgan’s eyes went wide with shock when he heard this.
’She actually knows the Master?’
“Aurora Sinclair. We’re friends.”
The smile in Darius Lynch’s eyes turned a bit strange. He continued, “Did you get this jewelry box from Alvin Morgan?”
Aurora Sinclair nodded.
The light in Darius Lynch’s eyes intensified. He pulled his chair much closer to Aurora Sinclair and asked conspiratorially, “Then do you know how many more crafts like this he has?”
Aurora Sinclair thought for a moment, then replied, “15.”
Darius Lynch’s breath caught. The light in his eyes grew even brighter, and he stammered with excitement, “Th-th-then can you help me buy another one from him?”
Aurora Sinclair gave him a puzzled look for a moment, then shook her head. “You don’t have to buy it. I’ll give you one.”
“G-give me one?” Darius Lynch was stunned. Then, remembering Alvin Morgan’s sly nature, he immediately shook his head. “No, no, no… he’s way too stingy, he’d never give it to me. He even lied and said he was just holding them for a friend. He wouldn’t even let me look…”
Once Darius Lynch started talking about Alvin Morgan, he got so worked up that he began to ramble, listing all of his faults from childhood to now. Listening to this, Elton Morgan silently lit a candle for his Master in his heart.
“So you see! He’s stingy, sly, loves to screw people over, and has a truly terrible personality…”
“He’s not!” Aurora Sinclair shook her head firmly.
Darius Lynch assumed she was just another girl who had fallen for Alvin Morgan’s charms and sighed sympathetically, “That’s because you don’t really know him…”
Aurora Sinclair rolled up the sleeve of her tracksuit, revealing the smart watch underneath. “He’s very good!”
“He’s just the type to… Holy shit! How do you have that?”
After catching sight of the smart watch, Darius Lynch shot to his feet in shock. Even Elton Morgan straightened up and took a few steps forward, his expression grave as he stared at Aurora Sinclair’s wrist.
“He gave it to me.”
“G-gave it to you?”
Darius Lynch stared at Aurora Sinclair in disbelief for a moment, his expression turning serious. “What exactly is your relationship?”
“Friends.” Aurora Sinclair looked down at her wrist, a hint of confusion in her eyes.
“How did you two meet?”
Aurora Sinclair thought for a moment. “Fighting.”
“Fighting? Impossible. He never fights with women, especially not someone as young as you.” Darius Lynch didn’t believe her and immediately picked up his phone to call Alvin Morgan.
It rang a few times before the call was mercilessly disconnected.
Darius Lynch: “…”
Utter awkwardness was written all over his face. He said, a bit sheepishly, “He’s probably busy!”
Aurora Sinclair glanced at her phone, at the picture of Alvin Morgan that Beta Morgan had just sent her, and nodded.
[Beta: Poor Aurora, the Master is cooking up more hard problems for you! image.jpg]
In the photo, Alvin Morgan was sitting on a sofa, uncharacteristically wearing a pair of glasses and holding a high school edition of “Five Three,” which he was reading intently.
Ever since Aurora Sinclair had accepted the thirty-three pounds of chicken legs, her friendship with Beta Morgan had leveled up dramatically. Not only did they add each other as friends, but Beta also frequently sent her candid photos he took of Alvin Morgan, complaining about some new outrageous thing he had just done.
Each time, Aurora Sinclair would send him a consoling “head pat” sticker. It was especially effective at healing Beta Morgan’s wounded soul. He felt like someone finally understood him!
***
Darius Lynch sized up Aurora Sinclair with a complicated expression. He was sure she had some kind of special relationship with his little ancestor and wanted to ask more, but Byron Lawson and Jean Quincy returned, so he could only push his questions to the back of his mind.
The two returned empty-handed. Byron Lawson, with a calm face, feigned an accusation, “Darius, that batch of fan gifts has already been moved.”
Darius Lynch played along. “Ah? Sorry, sorry. I forgot about that. I made you go on a wasted trip.”
Jean Quincy shook her head, her cheeks flushed and her eyes shining.
Before they left, Darius Lynch took a few close-up photos with them and signed the fan support notebook Jean Quincy had prepared, which made Jean Quincy ecstatic.
In the car, she kept hugging her phone and the fan notebook, giggling foolishly.
Aurora Sinclair silently pulled a signed photo of Darius Lynch from her pants pocket—one that Alvin Morgan had gotten for her a couple of days ago—and handed it to her.
Jean Quincy was instantly stunned. Her expression went from disbelief to sheer ecstasy. “Oh my god! Aurora, you’re the best—” She took the signed photo and planted a heavy kiss on it.
“Aurora, I could just die, I love you so much! Darius Lynch rarely gives out signed photos to fans!”
Aurora Sinclair nodded.
Early in his career, two of the original “Ice Cream” fans almost killed each other over one of his signed photos, so he stopped giving them out entirely.
Jean Quincy hugged Aurora Sinclair’s arm, nuzzling against it while laughing and shouting with joy.
“Aurora, I’ve decided! I’m going to go into seclusion to practice my dancing. I have to pass the arts exam this year and get into Kingsford Film Academy. I’m going to be Darius Lynch’s junior!”
Aurora Sinclair felt the other signed photo in her pocket, the one for Luna Jennings, and became lost in thought.
