Chapter 53: Chapter 50: The Morgan Family’s Life-Saving Benefactor?
The private hospital room was quiet.
Tanner Sinclair, Jade Sinclair, and Butler Sinclair were gathered around an enraged Master Sinclair.
By the hospital bed, only Linton Sinclair stood alone. Hailey Gordon and Stella Sinclair hadn’t come.
Linton Sinclair, normally standing at over five-foot-seven, was now slightly hunched over, his head bowed like a child who had done something wrong.
The sight of him made Master Sinclair’s anger flare up. “Where are those two?”
Linton Sinclair stole a glance at him and said timidly, “They went back to the Gordon Family’s home.” After speaking, he looked up to check Master Sinclair’s expression.
Master Sinclair glared at him in anger for a long moment, his pale face turning even ghastlier. This frightened Butler Sinclair, who stood beside him, staring intently, his thumb hovering over the call button, terrified he might faint again.
“Butler Sinclair, notify the banks to immediately freeze all the Sinclair Family cards in their possession.”
Linton Sinclair’s head shot up. In disbelief, he asked, “Dad, isn’t that a bit much?”
“Get the hell out—”
After roaring, Master Sinclair shut his eyes, not bothering to look at him any longer.
’What have I done to deserve this! How could I have raised such a spineless coward?’
Seeing Master Sinclair so enraged, Tanner Sinclair, who was standing nearby, unceremoniously grabbed Linton Sinclair by the collar. Suppressing his anger, he said menacingly, “Brother, weren’t they criticizing Aurora for not apologizing yesterday? How come they don’t dare to do it themselves now that it’s their turn? If they’re not willing to come back, then they shouldn’t be using the Sinclair family’s money.”
Linton Sinclair’s expression immediately changed. He was afraid of Master Sinclair, but that didn’t mean he was afraid of Tanner Sinclair.
“What are you trying to do, stir up trouble? If you hadn’t provoked your sister-in-law yesterday, would she have taken Stella back to the Gordon family’s home? Let go of me—”
Seeing Master Sinclair trembling with rage, Jade Sinclair, who was at their side, shouted, “What do you two think you’re doing? Dad is right here!”
Tanner Sinclair let him go, shooting him a vicious glare.
Linton Sinclair straightened his collar and glared back. He then turned to Master Sinclair to defend his family. “Dad, please don’t be angry. Hailey and Stella really didn’t know the truth yesterday. They were just afraid of upsetting you today, so they didn’t dare come and make you even angrier…”
“Get lost—”
Master Sinclair suddenly sat bolt upright, grabbed the phone beside him, and threw it.
Jade Sinclair quickly helped him calm his breathing and put on his oxygen tube, while saying reproachfully to Linton Sinclair, “Brother, you should just go!”
Terrified, Linton Sinclair immediately shut his mouth and left, a stinging pain burning on his forehead where the phone had hit him.
After he left, Master Sinclair coughed violently a few times, then lamented, “Our second son died too young! I failed him…”
Jade Sinclair’s expression flickered. She quickly tried to comfort him, but Master Sinclair seemed to have regressed to the state he was in years ago, right after sending Aurora away. His gaze was vacant, and he kept muttering Thomas Sinclair’s name.
That afternoon, the Sinclair Family’s legal team and several key managers from the branch families arrived at the hospital room.
Before long, Hailey Gordon received the news: Master Sinclair was planning to revoke Linton Sinclair’s status as heir and intended to reclaim the shares that Thomas Sinclair had left to Aurora ahead of schedule.
His intentions couldn’t be clearer: he was paving the way for Aurora Sinclair.
***
Hailey Gordon couldn’t sit still any longer. She immediately took Stella Sinclair to the hospital to visit Master Sinclair, but they were stopped by the bodyguards at the door of the room.
Butler Sinclair, with a stern face, adopted a polite yet distant demeanor. “Madam, Young Miss, the Family Head is unwell and is not seeing anyone. Please return.”
“Butler Sinclair, we only just heard what happened to Aurora. We rushed right over to apologize to Master Sinclair,” Hailey Gordon said with a smile, able to be flexible when needed.
But Butler Sinclair remained unmoved, his hand still extended in a gesture of dismissal. “Please return.”
Stella Sinclair bit her lip hard. Through the glass window on the room’s door, she could clearly see Aurora Sinclair sitting by their grandfather’s bed, peeling an apple for him.
The resentment in her heart swelled. She raised her voice toward the door, “Grandfather, I’m so sorry for the trouble I caused Aurora due to my poor judgment of character! Please forgive me. I’ll personally teach Aurora traditional painting in the future…”
After speaking, she bowed deeply toward the door at a ninety-degree angle.
Both Butler Sinclair and Hailey Gordon were stunned.
Stella Sinclair was wearing a beige dress today, her hands clutching her purse tightly, her posture extremely humble.
Hailey Gordon’s eyes instantly turned red, her sharp nails digging viciously into her palm.
’This was the daughter she had cherished for over twenty years! And now she had to bow her head and admit fault in front of that little monster?’
’Fine. She, Hailey Gordon, would remember these people and this humiliation!’
Seeing that Stella Sinclair’s apology was sincere, Butler Sinclair opened the door and let her in.
Hailey Gordon tried to follow, but he stopped her again.
“Madam, please wait here.”
Hailey Gordon pressed her lips together and took a few steps back, her expression ugly. ’She silently cursed Butler Sinclair several times over.’
The Sinclair bodyguards at the door were not to be trifled with; they only took orders from Master Sinclair and Janet Sinclair.
***
Inside the room, Aurora Sinclair was quietly peeling an apple for Master Sinclair. She held the knife in one hand and slowly turned the apple with the other. The peel quickly became a long, snake-like strip of uniform width.
She had already peeled two apples; the one in her hand was the third.
She handed the freshly peeled apple to Master Sinclair, then picked up another one for herself and started munching on it. A third apple sat quietly in a clean bowl.
When Stella Sinclair came in, she immediately apologized to Master Sinclair, but he merely glanced at her and asked calmly, “Want an apple?”
Stella Sinclair froze for a moment. She glanced at the slightly oxidized apple in the bowl and replied, “I don’t really like apples.”
Master Sinclair glanced at her again but said nothing. He took a large bite of the apple in his hand, finished it, and then picked up the one from the bowl to continue eating.
The sound of the grandfather and granddaughter crunching on their apples was rather loud in the hospital room.
Stella Sinclair couldn’t read his thoughts, so she apologized again.
Master Sinclair nodded but still didn’t speak, his eyes fixed on the television on the opposite wall.
Aurora Sinclair was doing the same, munching on her apple while watching TV.
It was as if the two of them were deliberately ignoring her. Stella Sinclair’s knuckles turned white as she gripped her handbag, the faint smile on her face threatening to crumble. She said loudly, “Grandfather, about Aurora’s traditional painting lessons…”
“You just focus on your competition. I’ll find another teacher for Aurora.”
Master Sinclair cut her off flatly, tossing the finished apple core into the trash can by his bed. Then, he took the wet wipe Aurora handed him and cleaned his hands.
Their interaction seemed warm and natural, like that of an ordinary grandfather and his granddaughter. It was something she had never experienced in her twenty-one years.
In her memory, Master Sinclair had always been extremely stern, the most unapproachable person in the family. Moreover, her mother had told her since childhood that she had to be perfect in his presence and never make a mistake, which made her fear him from the bottom of her heart.
“Grandfather, I’ll be going now! I’ll come see you again another day!” Stella Sinclair said with a smile, forcing back the bitterness in her heart.
“Mm…” Master Sinclair gave a slight nod, his attention fixed on the TV on the wall.
Stella Sinclair gave him one last, deep look, then turned and walked directly toward the door without so much as a glance at Aurora Sinclair.
Aurora Sinclair, who had started to stand up, silently sat back down.
Master Sinclair, sitting beside her, took it all in. His gaze darkened slightly as he patted her hand comfortingly. “Aurora, Grandfather will find a good teacher for you!”
But Aurora Sinclair shook her head and said quite seriously, “I know how to do traditional painting. I sent one to you before, Grandfather.”
Hearing this, Master Sinclair’s brow furrowed instantly. Master Aerion sent him a letter every year, but he had never received any paintings.
“Really?”
“Yes. Grandfather didn’t like it.” A trace of disappointment appeared in her beautiful, almond-shaped eyes.
’That was a painting she had spent a long time on. Her master had said Grandfather would write back after receiving it, but she never got a reply.’
“How could that be? Aurora, when did you send it?” Master Sinclair’s brow furrowed even tighter as he tried to carefully recall the moments he had received letters over the years.
Aurora Sinclair looked down at her fingers and said with a hint of emotion, “Five years ago, before Grandfather’s birthday.”
“Grandfather never received it! Could it have been lost in the mail? Butler Sinclair—” Master Sinclair immediately called out loudly toward the door.
Butler Sinclair hurried in. “Family Head, you called for me?”
He explained the matter of Aurora Sinclair sending a painting, but Butler Sinclair had no recollection of it either.
In the end, they both concluded that the painting had likely been lost during shipping.
Master Sinclair felt quite guilty. He took Aurora Sinclair’s hand and said regretfully, “I’m sorry, Aurora. Grandfather never received your painting. After I get out of the hospital, will you paint another one for me?”
Aurora Sinclair nodded.
“Since you already know how to do traditional painting, is it okay if Grandfather doesn’t find a teacher for you?”
Aurora Sinclair nodded again.
***
With the traditional painting lessons canceled, Aurora Sinclair returned to her routine of evening tutoring sessions at Arcadian University.
When Butler Sinclair came to Arcadian University this time, he was so nervous he could barely control his expression. He looked at the “generous gift” in his hands and felt utterly inadequate.
’The Young Master of the Morgan Family had seen everything; this gift was truly too meager. But it was also the best the Sinclair Family could offer.’
When the two of them arrived at Chester Greene’s office, they didn’t see Alvin Morgan or Chester Greene. Only Beta Morgan was there.
“My master is still in the middle of an experiment. He’ll be up in a little while.” Beta Morgan finally no longer had to be secretive, speaking to Butler Sinclair with his usual cheerful smile.
“Th-this is a small token of gratitude from the Sinclair Family, to thank Young Lord Morgan for his help!” Butler Sinclair was so nervous he stammered, his forehead covered in tiny beads of sweat.
Seeing his state, Aurora Sinclair even pulled a pack of tissues from her pocket and offered it to him.
Butler Sinclair was rather embarrassed.
’Oh, his Second Miss! Did she think he wasn’t nervous enough already?’
“Butler Sinclair, please don’t be nervous. I’m not some kind of monster,” Beta Morgan said, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. In the end, he could only tell him about how Aurora Sinclair had saved Dean Morgan on Sunstone.
“So, you see, Miss Sinclair is actually a benefactor of our Morgan Family.”
“A… a benefactor?” Butler Sinclair looked in disbelief at Aurora Sinclair, who was already eating her chicken-and-rice dinner.
’His Second Miss had actually saved one of the Morgans?’
’Was he dreaming?’
