Chapter 48: The Fallen saint.
Shock was immediately etched on her face.
She was certain she heard him right, but the weight of the words made her question her own sanity.
“I have to die?” Emilya asked again, just to be sure.
“That is correct. The true opportunity you seek can only be brought to fruition through death.”
To this, Kai stood to his feet, looking down at her while she could only look up at him from her knees.
“You cannot live amongst my people as a human. My orders might protect you for a day or two, but you, a human, can only live comfortably in hostility for so long. Be that as it may, all is not lost. I am powerful. Should you die right here and now, I can resurrect you, and bring you back as a monster of my choosing.”
His words settled in her ears, and a slight hint of realization played on her face as well.
In order to live in the dungeon, by his side, not only did she need to end her own life, but she also must abandon her humanity entirely.
Kai looked at her. It didn’t take him long to tell she was contemplating it deeply.
Which, to be fair, he didn’t blame her for doing. It was a big ask.
’I only just discovered the feature under the dungeon’s ability list. I can transform people who are not from my dungeon into monsters. It doesn’t say anything about guaranteed loyalty, so I am taking that as a risk on its own. And it costs a fortune to unlock.’
[Unlock Cost: 65,000 EXP]
His gaze was still on her.
’Why am I going this far for her? I doubt she would willingly throw her life away just to become a demon.’
“Shall I kill myself then?”
Kai was shocked at the words that left her mouth.
She was willing to do it.
“You would throw away your life for this?”
“Yes. My friends are dead. And you helped get the revenge I couldn’t. Please, allow me to do this.”
A period of silence ensued.
“Hahahaha!”
Kai suddenly laughed out loud, surprise immediately etched on Emilya’s face as that was the last thing she was expecting him to do.
“Very well. I apologize for doubting your resolve. You have proven yourself.”
With slow steps, he approached her.
“I shall grant your wish.”
His left hand rested on her head, his eyes glowing a shade of crimson red.
“You have my eternal gratitude.”
Kai smiled gently.
“Good. I would hate for my servants to kill you if you fall astray. Now then, I do believe this is the part where you die. Worry not, I am not heartless. It will be painless.”
Not even a second later, Emilya fell to the ground, headless.
Kai held her severed head in his hand, blood dripping from the opening underneath onto the pristine floor.
[Player Emilya has died.]
[40,000 EXP has been obtained.]
’Alright then. That covers most of the cost.’
He turned his gaze to the side, where the system interface awaited his command.
[A new Dungeon Feature has been unlocked.]
[Dungeon’s Death Creation: Allows the Ruler to convert outsiders into monsters under the influence of the Dungeon.]
[Would you like to awaken the Player Emilya?]
’Yes. All parts of her.’
Kai tossed her head close to her bleeding body.
[Player Emilya has been revived under the influence of the Dungeon’s Death Creation.]
[A Monster Race has been chosen in relation to her Saint Priestess Class.]
[Player has been awakened as a Species: The Fallen Nephilim (Dark Angel Race).]
Kai watched as the dark energy suddenly spread from his feet and slowly began to devour Emilya’s body, covering her in a swirling black cocoon.
Once that was done, the cocoon began to grow, becoming so huge that the dark mana could be seen leaking from under the doors and outside the room.
Then, after what seemed like forever, the cocoon shattered.
The creature known as the Fallen Nephilim, or the Fallen Angel, suddenly showed herself.
She was naked and knelt on the ground. Her long black hair danced behind her, while her huge, dark feathery wings were spread apart, casting a shadow over Kai.
Her eyes were completely dark, almost like they held no life whatsoever—voids of the abyss.
’Oh, she looks far better than I expected. Despite being a new person, I see her Level and HP have skyrocketed, meaning there is one more thing I need to do.’
“My Lord. May I ask for a favor?” The Fallen Angel asked, her voice melodic but cold, her head lowered even more.
At first, Kai was surprised she was fitting into her role rather quickly, but he indulged her.
“Go on.”
“I would like for you to give me a name. I don’t fully understand it, but I have this urge to have you name me.”
’Oh, that’s right.’ Kai remembered.
’She is a new race now. Surely her old name will not suffice anymore. Hmm, but what kind of name can I give her? While I am at it, what role can she play under the rule of the Shadow of Victims that won’t make the others feel cheated?’
An idea popped into his head in that moment.
“That is correct. I will grant you a name.”
“You have once again showered me with your generosity.”
“Lucifer. From this moment onwards, your name shall be Lucifer. And the title I shall grant you is the Head Maid of the Nameless Dungeon.”
With every word Kai spoke, the bright light around Lucifer glowed even more, clearly showing she was evolving further through the naming process.
Then—
[Lucifer has gained a new Authority.]
[Authority: Hell’s Gate.]
[Description: She has complete and total control over any outsider who steps foot in the Castle. No matter their strength, she will always have an ability to counter them within the walls.]
’Impressive. I am surprised she got an Authority rather than a Blessing. But we can move past that. Let’s see…’
His eyes went back to her stats again.
[Name: Lucifer]
[HP: 600,000/600,000]
[Level: 555]
Even as she was knelt there, she could feel the power of her new Lord running through her body. She understood everything, including her new Authority.
Furthermore, she lost the privilege of checking her stats like other players, and yet, it didn’t feel so much as a loss as it did a liberation.
Upon realizing this, Lucifer bowed her head again, her black wings wrapping around her like a dress.
“You have my loyalty, my Lord. Even until death.”
“Good. I expect nothing less from you.”
