Chapter 83: How to raise the dead.
{The Nameless Dungeon: First Floor}
Many of the soldiers who had participated in the battles were already busy.
They stripped their armor and weapons, dumping them into large trolleys to be pushed down to the Sixth Floor.
The Sixth Floor was the domain of Tariam, the dungeon’s personal blacksmith.
Tariam was meant to be a warrior, just like his brother Azrael, but in order to please Kai, he had studied hard to become a great blacksmith. He mastered the art so thoroughly that there was no doubt he was by far the best in all the lands.
As the broken and damaged weapons were brought back to him, Tariam and his subordinates immediately went to work, fixing and reforging the steel back to its top-tier condition.
As for the rest of the soldiers, the cleanup continued.
Under Sanovere’s orders, the Vampires scoured the Jaun lands. The human corpses were taken to the Fourth Floor, Sanovere’s domain, soon to be turned into undead thralls to serve the Nameless Dungeon.
But as for the monsters…
The bodies of the fallen, including the bosses that lost their lives, were brought before the Master of the Nameless Dungeon on the First Floor.
The dead bodies were arranged on the ground in precise lines and rows, covering a major part of the vast Throne Room.
According to what Carlotta told Kai, there were still a few outside the doors waiting to be brought in.
To the left of the throne, all the Pillars were present, standing tall to witness the power of the Lord they served.
And to the right, cowering at the base of the throne, were the two survivors: The Flying Dutchman and the Flaming Knight. They were there to witness a miracle, even though they were trembling in fear of what it might entail.
Kai, resting his jaw on his hand, stared at the system window for a while.
[Dungeon’s Death Creation: Would you like to activate this skill?]
’The description of this skill specifically states that only those who die within the confines of this dungeon can be brought to life by me. Which, of course, would not work in this case since they all died outside of my domain. And technically, they are not part of this dungeon’s registry.’
He paused, looking to the left side at another screen.
’But that restriction only stands if I didn’t have a counter for it.’
[Blessing: Residence]
Description: This blessing allows the user to mark any target, turning them into residents of your dungeon for as long as you allow them to remain.
He paused, calculating.
’I got this blessing alongside the Death Creation; it was the final reward from the five items I received. So in this case, the logic is simple: as long as I can mark them, they become residents of my dungeon. And if they are residents, I can revive them.’
Kai dismissed the screen and slowly stood to his feet.
From this action alone, all the monsters in the room, including those who were not under him, bowed their heads in deep respect.
Following that, Kai stretched his hand forward. A faint, ethereal blue light began glowing around his body.
[The Blessing ’Residence’ has been activated.]
[Note: This skill consumes a great deal of mental fortitude if used on a large number of targets.]
Kai smirked.
’Looks like the System already knows what I am aiming for. Even if I want to save these monsters and bring them back to life, my own people deserve to be a part of this, not just the outsiders. All who serve under me should bear the Mark of Kai Greyhat.’
He closed his eyes.
To everyone’s surprise, the light spread from his feet and scattered all around the Throne Room like a rapid shockwave.
It moved fast, washing over everyone.
As the light touched them, they began to notice strange, glowing tattoos appearing on different parts of their bodies.
Some had it on the back of their hands, some on the side of their heads.
Lyra, for instance, found the mark forming on the left side of her cleavage, while Carlotta felt a burning sensation at the back of her neck.
Every single person in the Throne Room bore the mark.
And it didn’t stop there.
The light pulsed outward, covering the entirety of the First Floor, then shooting down to the Second Floor where many of the monsters were gathered, enjoying the city.
The light did not stop until it reached the Eighth Floor, giving every single inhabitant the glorious mark of the Shadow of Victims.
Once this was done, Kai slowly opened his eyes.
He could feel the tension all around him, happiness mixed with confusion and awe.
But in all of it, they kept their eyes on him, wondering what he was going to do next.
’I feel heavy. Like I could collapse at any moment. Judging from the number of people I just used my blessing on, I am impressed I am still standing. My mana isn’t running out, but my mental fortitude is taking a massive hit.’
He sighed internally, trying to gather his strength.
’The sooner I wrap this up, the better.’
His hands were still stretched out when the dungeon feature activated.
[The Dungeon Death Creation has been activated and is ready for use.]
’Good. Now then… bring every single person here back to life. Leave no exceptions.’
[Understood.]
A single flicker of light glowed at the center of the room, rapidly expanding into a gigantic ball of luminescence that almost covered the entirety of the ceiling.
None of the Pillars dared to raise their heads in that moment.
Instead, they kept them bowed, choosing not to look eye-to-eye with such terrifying power.
The same went for the Flying Dutchman and the Flaming Knight, who kept their eyes glued to the floor, shaking.
After what seemed like forever, the light came falling to the ground like liquid mana.
It covered the bodies of every single dead monster there, extending out of the Throne Room to touch those that were lying in the hallways as well.
The effect was instantaneous and absolute.
As the light subsided, a wave of collective gasps swept through the Throne Room.
The rigid, lifeless forms that had blanketed the floor began to stir.
Every monstrous corpse, from the largest, multi-limbed boss to the smallest, broken minion, drew a sudden, sharp breath.
The silence was shattered by a chorus of groans, confused mutterings, and the rustling sound of massive bodies shifting.
It was a chaotic, yet miraculously orchestrated resurrection.
The resurrected beings looked around, their eyes glazed over for a moment, trying to reconcile the memory of their violent deaths with the sudden, inexplicable feeling of being whole again.
Then, clarity hit them.
They all converged on one figure: the one standing on the throne, radiating a barely contained, yet overwhelming, aura of power, Kai Greyhat.
The Goblin King, now fully healed, understood what had happened just at the mere glance of the man.
And it wasn’t just him.
It seemed every monster that was brought back to life felt the same.
They were certain of it.
In the void of death, they had felt a presence; Kai had reached into the afterlife, pulled them from the darkness, and dragged them back into the land of the living.
All while giving them a wonderful, heartwarming speech and causing some of them to cry from the beauty.
THUD!
In a display of total oneness, every single monster in the room dropped to their knees.
