Chapter 82: The battle to no end.
Kai rested his back against the cold stone of the throne, a proud look on his face after witnessing the absolute dominance Phera had displayed.
It was magnificent.
’Ha, I knew she would be amazing. She is a Level 1000, after all—the highest-level monster in the entirety of my dungeon. Good. I should make her the leader of my vanguard alongside Hamr.’
His gaze then turned to the second holographic screen, where he could see Fanny battling both the leader of the human army, Sir X, and his assistant, Sandra.
’Fanny…’ Kai uttered in his mind, his expression shifting. He was clearly not as excited as he was with Phera.
And there was a good reason for that.
BAAM!
On the screen, Fanny landed heavily on the ground, her feet grazing against the dirt as she slid backward, clutching her teddy bear with one hand while X and Sandra chased her from the front.
Mid-slide, Fanny’s arm distorted. It shifted into its monstrous form, a mass of dark, scaled flesh. She placed it right in front of her, using it to block an attack from one of the undead goblins Sandra had launched at her.
Once she knew she had successfully blocked the attack, a split opened in the palm of the giant hand. It was a mouth, and it stretched wider than physics should allow, wide enough to completely devour the goblin’s head whole.
CRUNCH.
X found it rather eerie, watching a hand eat a goblin, but in that moment, he didn’t want to waste his chances.
All he needed to do was scratch the monster before him just once. With the Sword of Ladrona, a single cut meant erasure.
With Sandra acting as the perfect distraction by spamming undead summons, his chances of landing that hit skyrocketed. Now, he was finally positioned behind her.
Just as he stretched his blade to the side, planning on stabbing her through the heart from the blind spot, Fanny moved.
What happened next made X freeze in shock.
Fanny ignored him entirely. She closed the distance between herself and Sandra in a blur of speed, grabbing the sorceress by the neck and lifting her off the ground.
X gritted his teeth, further improving his speed so he could get to the demon as quickly as possible, at least so she wouldn’t die from being choked to death.
But Fanny didn’t need to turn her body.
CRACK.
Her head snapped around, rotating a full 180 degrees like an owl, bones crunching audibly, to face X directly.
She opened her mouth, and a torrent of cursed black flames poured out, engulfing X completely.
However, X did not stop.
A few burns were not going to stop him. Not when he had already gotten this far. Not when the fate of humanity rested on his blade.
He kept running through the inferno, his skin blistering, his armor melting, screaming a war cry as he closed the final inch.
SHIIIING!
He did it.
The rush of flames stopped abruptly as the white blade pierced through Fanny’s chest, exiting out her back.
“X… X, no…” Sandra cried, her voice raspy as she was still being choked.
It was clear that X had stabbed Fanny through the heart. By all laws of this world, she should have been erased from existence.
X, now a living torch, used the last of his strength to grab the hilt of the blade with both hands and shove it further into her chest, grinning through his melted lips.
Or so he thought.
While it was true that Fanny got stabbed by the blade, and she was supposed to be erased…
She was an Immortal.
She was a being incapable of dying or being erased by lower-tier artifacts, just like her master, Kai.
While this blade might have been a threat to any of the other pillars, it was nothing more than a toothpick to Fanny.
Teddy, watching from Fanny’s other hand, burst into laughter.
“Hhahah! Are you seeing this, Fanny? This loser sacrificed himself thinking he killed you! Such a weird-looking guy!”
At this point, X had already been fully burnt to a crisp. Even if he was shocked by the outcome, he had no way of expressing it. His life force flickered out, and his charred body collapsed to the side, releasing the hilt of the sword.
Sandra was silent the whole time, her eyes wide as every hint of hope she had completely vanished.
Fanny didn’t say much. She only grunted with mild annoyance as she gripped the blade stuck in her chest and yanked it out.
Squelch.
The wound healed instantly, closing up without leaving even a scar.
She turned her attention to the next target: Sandra.
She looked the terrified woman in the eye. Despite having just killed X and healed from a fatal wound, Fanny still looked as innocent as a child.
“It is alright, Miss. I will be sure to kill you quickly so you don’t feel any pain. I wanted to do the same for your friend here, but he stabbed me in the chest. I don’t like being stabbed.”
Sandra let out a chuckle of absolute despair.
She was at the complete mercy of a child.
“My Lord said to kill everyone here, and you are included. Sorry. Well, I guess this is it.”
Just as Fanny tightened her grip to snap Sandra’s neck—
A flash of purple light appeared not too far from where she was. Standing there was Lyra, her aura twice as intoxicating and heavy as Fanny’s.
When Sandra turned to see who had arrived, her shock only grew further, her eyes losing the last spark of life.
[Lyra.
Level: 999.]
There was another one.
Looking at it now from a logical perspective, Sandra understood that even if they had spent the entire month training and planning, there would have been no way to win.
Then came Lyra’s voice, cold and absolute.
“Fanny. That will be enough. Lord Kai has ordered that we retreat and let the survivors return back to their land.”
Fanny smiled at the information, immediately letting go of Sandra’s neck and dropping her to the dirt.
Sandra gasped, coughing violently as air rushed back into her lungs.
“My Lord was really watching?” Fanny asked, skipping toward Lyra. ”
What did he think? Was Fanny cool? Come on, let it out already.” The bear spoke right after.
Lyra stared at the bear for a good second, still surprised that the toy actually spoke for the girl.
“I cannot speak for Lord Kai’s thoughts, but I do know he watched it all to the end.”
She looked ahead, seeing that their own army of monsters was already pulling away from the fight and marching into formation.
As for the enemy, only a few dozen remained—not enough to make a platoon. The Nameless Dungeon had completely overpowered 300 elite soldiers with only 50 of their own.
This, of course, put a subtle smile on Lyra’s face.
In her moment of thought, Lyra looked down at Sandra.
Lyra grinned, a look of pure superiority, then turned around to walk into the portal that had opened behind her.
“Let us go. Our Lord is waiting.”
Slowly, they all disappeared into the portal, including the monster army.
All that was left behind was the charred corpse of Sir X, a few traumatized soldiers, and Sandra, who sat weeping on the ground, broken not by death, but by the sheer overwhelming gap in power.
