Chapter 72: Go on, help him.
“That bitch! She got away!” Melty frowned, looking directly up at the sky as though considering the option of flying after her.
“Relax Melty, it is fine. There is no way she can fight that many assassins, I am sure they will chase after her. As for this one right here, he is as good as dead.”
’So they are here to kill me. I hate that I was right about this. I would have been fine with just knowing they wanted to steal the product. I mean, I would still kill them, but I would at least not feel this angry about it.’
Kai sighed, clearly showing his disappointment.
But his curiosity was still at its peak.
“If you truly intended on killing me, why did you not do so before we traveled this far? I do believe you only wasted time, or perhaps you were having second thoughts about the matter?” he spoke out loud.
Grok and Melty were a tad bit surprised, as they were expecting him to have begun begging for his life, since any normal person would have understood what was going to happen.
“Are you mocking us?” Melty was the first to speak, holding her staff tightly. “Or are you stupid enough to think you are buying time in some way? No one is coming to save you. We are far out of reach of any ears and eyes.”
Kai hummed.
“That answered one of my questions then. Secondly, who sent you and why was I the primary target? I was aware of the chances we would be attacked along the way, but I did not think it would be a personal attack in and of itself.”
“Wha—is this dude for real? He is asking us questions?” Melty looked towards her partner, the anger on her face slowly being replaced with confusion.
Grok, on the other hand, seemed calm, as though he too was trying to understand why Kai was not yet going into a defensive stance.
He was too calm.
“Tell me. If I do answer your questions, what do you hope to gain from that? You would be dead anyway,” Grok spoke out loud.
“Oh, I think there seems to be some kind of misunderstanding. I am only asking because I would like to get the full details before I murder you. Surely you cannot hope to blame me. After all, you came at me with the full intent of killing me from the start,”
Kai replied. His voice was calm, a stark contrast to the weight of his words.
Grok laughed a bit.
“I like you. I think I will enjoy my time killing you alone. She will not interfere. As the rank 26 adventurer in Rabosa, consider this to be mercy.”
With each word he spoke, he took another step forward, slowly pulling off his armor until all that was left were his black shirt and the giant blade he intended to use in battle.
’I guess it is understandable why they would not want to tell me anything. It is a dark system kind of thing, I guess. No matter, this works in my favor.’
Kai remained still, waiting for Grok to make the first move.
The fact that Kai had not said a word back to Grok truly angered him, and thus, his patience wore thin.
And he ended up striking the first hit.
With an explosive boom, he charged forward, his fist clenched while his blade was stretched to the side, as if trying to prove to Kai that he did not need his weapon to be a threat.
He was rank 26 in Rabosa; that alone was all the confidence he needed.
Kai watched the charge with a somewhat bored look on his face. From where he stood, he could already tell how the fight would end up.
Grok’s movement, though powerful, was slow and very predictable.
’This is the strength of a top 25 adventurer?’
Kai was utterly disappointed, if anything.
Just when it seemed like the punch was going to land on his face, he tilted his body to the side, allowing his opponent’s fist to blitz past his ears.
Grok, still in motion, realized there was no way he could make such a sharp turn with the momentum he had already been building up.
So, he immediately improvised.
With the hand holding the blade, he dug his feet into the ground, pivoting so he could easily send the weapon coming back straight to Kai’s neck.
It was a move Kai saw coming a mile away.
“As I expected. You really are weak.”
Grok’s eyes widened at what he had just heard.
But that only seemed to add to his shock when he noticed his blade had stopped moving. No matter how hard he tried, he could not move it any further.
Slowly turning his head to check, he noticed right then and there that Kai, or in this case Aron, had used two of his fingers to stop the blade.
“What the—”
“If you can so easily swing your blade blindly in hopes of killing your target, then you do not need or deserve to wield a blade this beautiful. In short, I am the one deciding you are unworthy of it.”
“Uhn…”
“So I will be taking it from youa.”
“Aarrrgu!!”
Grok fell to the ground, screaming in pain when he realized that not only did Kai drag the blade away, but he also took his entire arm with him.
Blood spilled to the ground as Grok fell to his knees, screaming at the top of his voice as the immense pain began to cloud his mind.
His HP was dropping fast as well, so he knew if left unattended to, he would truly die in that spot.
“Shit! Shit! Shit!” he cursed out loud while crying. “This guy is not an F rank at all! Those bastards!! I am going to die! Do something, Melty?!”
As he turned to look at her, tears balling down his eyes, he noticed Melty had fallen to the ground, shaking visibly in fear as she pointed at Kai.
“H-he is a monster!!! That is not human!!!”
Though he struggled, Grok managed to turn and face Kai and that was when he saw it.
Kai had opened his mask, revealing his dark, mist-like features, with his red eyes glowing like two dead stars.
Then he spoke.
“Go on Melty. You heard him. Do something.”
