Chapter 49: Let’s Ride.
Max looked at Finn. He already understood he could turn this mode off whenever he wanted, and nodding at Finn, he cracked his neck. The world began to slow down once again.
*BOOM*
*Tut-tut-tut…*
As he throttled the bike, the front tire jumped into the air because Max gave it a huge throttle. Unlike Finn, his head didn’t snap back. On the contrary, his reflexes kicked in, and he instantly shifted his weight forward, grounding the bike and leaving the dealership in under a second.
“Damn!!”
“That’s how you ride it—”
Finn couldn’t even catch Max’s silhouette. He was gone too fast. Linn nodded his head but frowned a little. The way Max handled the bike looked weirdly good, almost impossibly good, not something a normal rider could do.
Maybe he rode from a young age or something… well, whatever.
The Superleggera shot across the lot and stopped right in front of Finn’s car with a clean stoppie, the rear wheel lifting off the ground as the front brake bit hard into the asphalt. The entire bike balanced forward for a split second, almost vertical.
Max’s hands didn’t shake. His fingers controlled the brake with perfect pressure while his body shifted naturally, keeping the balance steady. From 50 to 0 KPH in under a second, the stop was sharp and exact.
It looked less like braking and more like the bike had obeyed his command. Max waited for Finn to come over. He planned to give Finn his address so he could drop the box off at his apartment while he went to buy a laptop for his classes tomorrow.
“Dude, you are fucking fire, where did you even learn to drive it like that?”
“Been years… so can you take this box here and wait in the outside parking lot? I’ll come back as soon as I can, then we can have pizza, maybe?”
Max showed his phone where his apartment’s address was open on the map, then looked at Finn calmly.
“Sure, dude.”
Finn grabbed the phone from his hand, sent the location to himself without even asking, then gave it back. He casually bumped his fist against Max’s chest and jogged toward his car.
Max, seeing Finn’s car leaving the parking lot, smiled faintly, then cracked his wrist and focused. The air became slow. It was like a cheat code for seeing everything in slow motion, but in reality, he was reacting faster, far faster than normal people ever could. His inhuman instincts kicked in, and he pushed the throttle hard.
The bike wanted to jump forward, but once again he leaned forward, this time with his head almost on the gas tank, to cut the airflow more easily and speed up perfectly. His feet also hugged the bike tight, making him one with the bike, both mentally and physically, like the machine was simply an extension of his body.
*CLACK**CLACK**THUFFFFFFFFFrrrrrrr*
He left the dealership in an instant. His new destination was MediaMarkt, where Danica had taken him to buy a phone previously. He had seen many laptops there, and he just wanted one for his classes.
After two seconds, he slowed down. Munich was, after all, a crowded city, and even if he had the bike, even if he had the skill, he couldn’t just go overboard. Seeing this was a 50 KPH limit route, while everyone else drove around 55–60 KPH, he kept his speed around that.
Soon, he saw a red light, so he gently pressed the brake and came to a halt behind a Porsche. People were turning their heads his way. Max simply put his feet on the ground and crossed his arms, relaxing a little. He first thought they were staring at the Porsche, but when even the Porsche owner stepped out and took a photo of him, he understood they were actually staring at him, or rather, his bike.
Damn… this is annoying. Thank god I kept the visor down.
*BROOOM*
Max cracked his neck and gently activated God mode. Everything slowed down. The traffic light was turning green. The Porsche owner looked extremely slow while getting back into his car with a smile. Max, on his bike, turned the 15,000 RPM throttle fully. The bike jumped forward like a bullet. He leaned down again and pressed the gear with his foot.
The bike simply looked like it vanished in a second. Before the onlookers could even understand what had happened, he was already gone. They turned to look at the traffic light and saw it was green. Everyone stood there, shocked.
Max touched 100 KPH for two seconds. It felt normal for him, like a safe cruising speed to maneuver through the city. Still, he slowed down again. He didn’t want trouble for no reason.
It took him seven minutes to reach MediaMarkt. Last time when he was here, the people felt like they lived in another world, rich and distant. This time, everything looked normal, almost familiar, like he had quietly gotten used to the luxury around him.
He parked the bike in the open parking lot in front of the huge store. After locking it, he activated his other God-level skill, Locksmith (God Tier).
[Permanently Lock the Vehicle?]
[Yes/No]
Max pressed [Yes], then understood that even Ducati itself wouldn’t be able to start this bike. Seeing it resting on the side stand, he nodded with quiet satisfaction. He unlocked the titanium straps under his chin, took the helmet in his arm, and walked toward the glass doors of the store.
The huge store was, as usual, busy. Max went directly to the person who had sold him two phones last time. She looked a bit busy serving a woman, so Max simply stood behind her, forming a line. She looked tiny in front of him. Although he was used to his height, girls still gave him looks, as if they were open to talk if he approached them. Max just ignored those looks.
“Hello, sir. Welcome back.”
The employee, who was nodding his head constantly at whatever the woman in front of him was saying, noticed a tall figure appear behind her. His eyes naturally landed on Max. Seeing Max, he recognized him immediately. This month, he had earned the most from this boy, who didn’t even take discounts and simply bought two flagship phones.
“Thank you.”
Max gave a calm nod and gestured that he was fine, that the salesman could continue with the lady first. The lady, seeing the salesman distracted, looked a little startled. She was wearing an underboob-cut dress, and her confidence seemed to drop slightly. When she turned her head, she had to look up and saw a pair of cold green eyes staring straight ahead. It didn’t even look like he cared whether she existed or not.
Max looked down and saw the oddly dressed woman frowning at him, so he lightly gestured to the salesman that he would sit on the couch beside. The salesman nodded in understanding. Both men exchanged a quiet look and understood each other without saying a word. This only made the woman angrier. She stood up from her seat and, stomping her feet, left.
Max narrowed his eyes in confusion. He hadn’t even moved when the woman suddenly walked off.
Well, works for me.
