Chapter 82: I have decided to let you live but you will wish you were dead
Max walked alone in the hallway, footsteps echoing off the walls as noise leaked through doors and vents, murmurs crawling through the entire building, layered voices stacking on top of each other, everyone awake in the girls’ dormitory.
The air felt charged, heavy with agitation and curiosity, like the place itself was holding its breath. Max already knew they were up. He didn’t need confirmation. His eyes stayed forward, awareness stretched wide as he moved through the corridor, that bastard had disrupted this place, flipped the atmosphere on its head, turned silence into chaos.
His presence commands this much chaos?
Max shook his head and went upstairs, long strides taking the steps two at a time, his six-foot-six frame moving with his super athletic body coming fully into use as his legs drove him upward.
He reached the third floor in no time, his long legs carrying him through the stairwell with speed, breath steady, focus locked. Max immediately saw Saoirse’s door tightly shut at the end of the hallway.
The dim overhead lights stretched his shadow across the floor as he slowed his pace, moving carefully now because sound was still coming from her room, muffled but clear enough to recognize — Saoirse’s voice, tight and strained, and a male voice layered over it, low and sharp, pressing in on her space, trying to scare her.
Max’s eyes hardened as he listened for half a second longer, jaw clenching once, every sense narrowing toward that single door.
As Max approached her room, he noticed the opposite-side door gently opening up, hinges barely whispering as it moved. A girl peered out, eyes wide, fear written across her face the moment she saw him standing there.
Her hand stayed wrapped around the doorframe as she shook her head slowly, urgently, a silent warning in the small movement of her chin and eyes — don’t go inside, don’t get involved, it’s dangerous.
Max met her gaze and gave a small smile, then lifted his hands slightly in a relaxed gesture, signaling he was fine, that she didn’t need to worry, then pointed subtly toward her door, telling her without words to go back inside and lock it tight.
His posture never changed, shoulders loose, stance solid, presence steady with confidence, like he’d already decided how this would end.
The girl nodded once, swallowing hard before slipping back into her room and quietly locking the door behind her, the click of it echoing softly down the hallway. They communicated without even uttering any sound, fear on her side, certainty on his.
Max already turning his attention back toward Saoirse’s door, the hallway falling silent again as he stepped forward, his shadow stretching across the floor under the dim lights, every sound fading behind him.
He reached the door and pressed [Yes] once again, easing it open gently, just enough to peek inside, his eyes adjusting in a split second as he took in the room, his body staying still while his awareness moved fast, reading everything at once.
He saw that bastard gleeing, face twisted with ugly satisfaction, and he didn’t even have his pants on, stumbling around in nothing but briefs as he chased after her across the room.
Saoirse was backing away, panic sharp in her movements, her mouth stuffed with clothes, hands tied with a cloth or something, her breathing muffled, fear flashing in her eyes as she tried to put distance between herself and him.
Max’s gaze hardened instantly, jaw tightening, the air around him shifting as he absorbed the scene, rage full energy building behind his calm exterior while his focus locked straight onto the man in front of him.
When that bastard was about to touch her, Max opened the door wide, the hinges moving without a scream, without a crash, just a clean, sudden opening that cut through the room.
He didn’t make any sounds, didn’t announce himself, but that bastard still turned around instinctively, sensing something wrong before understanding it.
Max stood there framed by the doorway, tall and unmoving, helmet catching the light, his silhouette filling the space, and his sheer presence made louder noise than any yelling ever could. The air shifted the moment he appeared, pressure settling into the room like gravity had changed direction.
” Who are you? ”
“UGAAX”
Saoirse, seeing a man wearing a helmet, instantly recognized who it was, relief crashing into her panic as she tried to plead for help, her body jerking forward, shoulders trembling, but with her mouth stuffed she could barely make any noise.
Only broken muffled sounds escaped through the cloth. Her eyes locked onto Max, wide and desperate, hands still tied, breath shallow as she struggled in place.
” It does not matter who I am ”
Max was glad her mouth was stuffed, otherwise she would’ve blown his cover, his eyes never leaving the man as he reached back and calmly locked the door behind him, the soft click sealing the room off from the hallway.
He wasn’t in a rush now that he had grabbed this monster’s attention, posture relaxed, shoulders loose, weight balanced on his feet, he looked so relaxed it made the bastard sweat.
” M…My Dad… ”
” I know, Paolo Bronte sent me here ”
Max gave a small nod of his head, nothing dramatic, just a simple acknowledgment, then walked over and sat down on the edge of the bed like he had all the time in the world, his movements controlled, deliberate, unbothered.
The mattress dipped slightly under his weight, boots planted firmly on the floor, elbows resting casually on his thighs. Seeing him do that made everyone confused.
Saoirse’s breathing hitched behind the cloth in her mouth, her eyes flickering between Max and the bastard, uncertainty creeping in as she tried to understand why he wasn’t rushing forward, why he wasn’t exploding into action.
The bully stood there frozen, half-turned, thrown off balance not by force but by the sheer unpredictability of it, his expression tightening as he tried to read the situation.
Bully Max’s father works for Paolo Bronte, so he knows the name, the recognition flashing across his face the moment he heard it, but what is happening here, he was so confused about it.
His confidence faltered, brows pulling together, trying to connect the dots, trying to understand why someone sent by Paolo Bronte would walk in, sit down, and speak so calmly.
The room felt heavier now, tension shifting from chaos to uncertainty, and the bully’s earlier aggression started to look misplaced as doubt crept into his posture.
” I have decided to let you live but you will wish you were dead ”
Max stood there for a brief moment after saying it, helmet tilted slightly, shoulders loose, breathing steady, the words hanging in the air like a verdict.
Inside that quiet pause, he finished deliberating if he should kill this bastard or not, his decision settling clean and cold. This bastard did look like he was used to this routine, used to intimidating people, used to getting away with it, but Max didn’t want to kill him personally.
His fists tightened once, then relaxed, his body already shifting into motion before the room could catch up.
” W…What? ”
*BAAAM*
Before the bastard could even understand what was happening, Max exploded forward, a flying kick tearing through the space between them, his leg driving straight into the man’s chest with brutal precision.
*CRASH*
The impact lifted him off his feet, sending his body slamming backward into the mirror, glass shattering outward as he crashed through it, fragments spraying across the room.
Blood spilled like a balloon popping, streaking the wall and floor in messy arcs, the mirror collapsing behind him while Max landed cleanly on his feet, boots gripping the ground, posture controlled, already resetting his balance as broken glass tinkled around them.
