Chapter 101: You Wait To Be Summoned
Elias checked his Stamina and Vitality, and he nearly grinned at what he saw.
Vitality: 2362 / 2385
Stamina: 573/ 613
He had barely taken any damage to his body, and except for his Stamina, which was lower than he had expected, but was ticking up as he was looking at it, he was still in prime condition, and could still fight for several more hours if there was a need for it.
Elias had only suffered so much in the hands of the corrupted infants because he was still getting used to his Talent and his new body, but also because those infants were many times more powerful than these cannibals.
Which could only mean that the true levels of the monstrous mother and her children that he killed were many times more powerful than he could have imagined at that time, and it was a good thing that he was ignorant of that fact, or he would have escaped and not bothered fighting.
Still, Elias was not one to allow someone he had already marked as prey escape, and he focused on the ones that were fleeing, seemingly forgetting the silent order of their leader.
Already getting used to changing the shapes of the swarm rapidly in battle, Elias extended the swarm into motes that formed a thin wire and lassoed the ankle of the one ahead of the pack, and he pulled hard, causing the cannibal to slam face-first into an extended piece of bone, and his teeth shattered.
The cannibal screamed as Elias dragged him backward. His plea was gut-wrenching, but Elias stood like a pillar, and his eyes were just a cool gaze, like a child pulling off the wings of an insect. Even when he was dragged to his feet, the cannibal refused to turn around.
Any thought of retaliating in the mind of the cannibal was gone as he wished he were flexible enough to turn and chew off his legs. Not wanting to watch the mind of this cannibal break, he placed a foot on the man’s back and pressed down until vertebrae popped one by one and the body finally went limp.
Perhaps seeing the pitiful way this cannibal had died enboldened the final two; at least if they were going to die, it would not be by going mad with fear.
The last two rushed at him, desperate and suicidal; there was no tactic in their movements; they just bared their teeth at Elias and charged, and he let them come.
There was nothing more to learn from them, and he would send them off this mortal coil.
He blocked a claw strike with his forearm; the wraps around his wrist had hardened and covered his entire forearm like armor, and this caused the nails to skid off. Elias countered with a punch to the temple of the cannibal, and his skull caved in with a wet crunch.
The last bit into his calf, teeth grinding at his skin, and Elias allowed him to gnaw on his leg for a second before he grabbed the head, his fingers sinking into the eyes and mouth of the man, and not heeding the plea for mercy, he twisted, snapping the neck with a loud snap, and finally there was silence.
“Magnificent… absolutely magnificent!” The sound of clapping entered Elias’s ears, and he turned to the leader of the cannibals, who was crowned with bones, and whose eyes were gleaming with amusement, and he effortlessly raised the greatclub and pointed at Elias, and the silver mist around him thickened, “Now, you are a pleasant surprise, and I am a bit confused on what I should do with you.”
Elias also held out his hand, manifesting his twelve-foot spear, “Don’t be confused, I am here to kill you all, so fight me with everything you have.”

Veyris Arathor had waited exactly eleven hours and seventeen minutes, and he was about to leave with anger. Of course, this was simply a ruse; Veyris had seen far too much to become angry at such a childish attempt to anger him.
Still, there may be something extremely serious here that the actions of Calyx could lead to unexpected outcomes. Veyris could have impressed the importance of this issue, but why would he do that?
When your enemy wants to make mistakes, you give them enough space for them to make more. The Royal Family was vast, and the internal politics were incredibly complex. Calyx was making a mistake here by denying him for so long, and Veyris was making sure that every moment was recorded.
Seventeen minutes ago, he was summoned by the Lord Protector’s guards that his meeting with him had been approved, and he had been waiting for the last seventeen minutes like a fool.
Any other Lord Protector would not be able to get away with this obvious level of disrespect, and even Calyx was beginning to stretch what he should be capable of, and Veyris sat in the high-backed chair reserved for honored guests, one leg crossed over the other, with his fingers steepled beneath his chin. His golden-key eyes had not blinked once in the last hour.
He had been brought into the grand hall of the Lord Protector’s palace, and it was a cavern of polished obsidian and gold filigree, lit by floating Ember orbs that resembled captured starlight drifting lazily near the vaulted ceiling.
Tapestries depicting the Storm Ascendant’s triumphs hung like frozen thunderheads along the walls as guards in white-and-gold plate stood motionless at every pillar, eyes hidden behind visored helms.
Veyris was a bit surprised at the opulence of this hall that reeked of both antiquity and eminence. This city was so damned strange, he thought. If he was not wrong, this entire palace was truly ancient and should have emerged in the time of the gods. It was rare that such remnants would be found outside the central realms.
The massive double doors at the far end of the hall suddenly groaned open, and Veyris’s eyes slowly turned towards them and saw his brother, Calyx Arathor, Lord Protector of Stormfall, enter.
He was older than Veyris by five years, broader in the shoulders, thicker in the neck, hair cropped military-short and already streaked with iron. ’The man was beginning to age,’ Veyris thought, ’Being so far from the center of Trion must take a toll when he could not easily acquire the Ichor of Ascendancy.’ However, none of these thoughts showed in his eyes as Veyris slowly stood up.
The Lord Protector, even in his palace, still wore armor, and Veyris was surprised that it was still functional.
The armor was dark steel chased with silver lightning motifs, and it bore the weight of decades of command. Veyris tried to look at the secrets of this armor, but he was surprised when he could not see more than the surface. How did his brother get such powerful armor, and what could he be hunting with it?
Veyris looked at his brother’s eye, they were the same pale gold as his own, but over the years, those eyes were no longer the same as what he remembered; now they were harder, colder. And suddenly, Veyris began to doubt everything he had been thinking about this man.
He had been left here for hours, not because of spite, but for other unknown reasons, and Veyris found this distinction to be quite interesting, because it would suggest that he had stumbled onto a game that he was not supposed to have discovered any time soon.
The Lord Protector stopped ten paces from the chair; this distance was the closest a Siphon of his power could approach without being seen as intrusive.
“Brother,” Calyx said, the word carrying no warmth.
