Chapter 108: Scripture Hall
Ye Jun stood in his position for a moment, absorbing that, then looked at the black pillar, still far away, and at the young woman maintaining her effortless stance.
’She isn’t going any deeper unless she gets comfortable in one particular zone,’ he realised. ’Yes! That’s the best way to utilise this hall. No point in moving forward if you are still struggling behind.’
It didn’t change anything for him. He wasn’t planning to reach the black pillar quickly, though it was impossible for the current him too.
He turned sideways instead, eyes moving along the ring of struggling disciples until they found a young man three positions over, red-faced and clearly losing whatever argument he was having with the chamber’s winds. Smaller bubbles hovered around him, but they were there.
Ye Jun set his feet and began moving toward him.
It was incredibly difficult even with Adaptation working. Its progression was in small parts rather than immediately becoming adapted to something.
He moved a bit backwards, sliding diagonally using the winds too, all while making sure he wasn’t flung away by the winds. Who wanted to kiss the wall?
Ye Jun had bought two hours in the hall and he used it well. For starters, he collected many attributes and practiced himself in whatever time was left.
When his jade stone began to vibrate, he silently went back to the door and left the hall. Apparently, it gave a warning ten minutes before the session ended so the disciples had time to leave.
Now, he stood before the circular structure and thought, ’It will take me a while just to clear the first floor. Reaching that black pillar is no joke. Even if I did, it’ll be pointless unless I can move around freely.’
Ye Jun gave it a five-star review mentally, deciding to come here again in the future. It was worth the forty contribution points, though he wondered if it was better to spend those in the Fire Hall.
’Hmm, I should start fighting in the rankings. Then I’ll get free hours in these rooms. Thirty hours, insane.’
Ignoring the odd looks he got from some disciples, he began walking towards the Scripture Hall, or as he called it, the sect’s library.
It didn’t take him long to find it.
’Is everything in these sects so grand and majestic?’ Ye Jun was speechless looking at the seven-story pagoda before him.
The pagoda stood upon a broken island, which was floating in the sky. Seven thick metal chains held it connected with the many peaks. However, what he found truly surprising was that the pagoda was elevated.
It felt like the chains were stopping the pagoda from flying up into the sky.
’Truly a martial world.’
Many bamboo stairs also hung from the island, as the gusts of wind constantly made them sway here and there. It wasn’t hard to guess why the sect made it like this, instead of having a straight way up.
’Training even here.’
Ye Jun strode towards the bamboo stairs but stopped right before them. He frowned and looked back. ’What was that? A protective barrier?’
Right before he entered the stairs’ range, he felt as if he had passed through a thin, invisible film. He wondered how it let him in. Perhaps the jade stone that Han Yuexin gave them on day one worked as an identity card… stone?
Shaking his head, he climbed upwards, the wind once again trying to throw him away. If he hadn’t practiced, or rather picked up attributes in the Gale Pressure Chamber, he might have taken a few tries to reach the top.
The winds were coming from the deep emptiness below the island, which was also probably the reason for the island staying in the air like this.
Still, he didn’t rush and slowly climbed. He wasn’t an expert yet and had no intention of falling down the cliffs. There was no way he was surviving that.
’How the hell did the sect manage this? What if someone dropped?’ he wondered.
Soon, he reached the top and pushed himself onto the island where the winds finally returned to normal. Straightening his robes, he went forward and found quite a few disciples there.
An old man sat before the wooden doors of the pagoda, seemingly a normal man meditating away from the mortal world. But one thing any cultivation reader knew was to never underestimate old men in cultivation worlds.
’As they say, fear the old man in a profession where people die young.’
That was also the case for assassins. Most died quickly.
Coming before him, he cupped his fists and bowed. “Greetings, Senior. I apologise for disturbing your cultivation, but I am a little confused.”
The old man finally opened his eyes and glanced at him with ancient eyes filled with wisdom. He stared at him for a moment longer and nodded. “I like polite young ones. So, what is it?”
“I want to enter the Scripture Hall,” Ye Jun said politely. “But I’m a new student and don’t understand how things work here. Can you please guide me?”
“A simple matter,” the old man nodded and said, his voice low and heavy. “The Scripture Hall is unlike other halls, as it contains the secrets and most important scriptures of our sect. Along with the Gale Domain, they are the foundation of our sect, so there are multiple protective formations here. You did well to not walk around recklessly.”
Ye Jun smiled lightly.
“With your identity jade stone, you can cross the first two barriers. You’ve already crossed one before ascending to the island.”
Ye Jun noted it. He was right about it, which made him wonder if it was related to his passive skills, especially the ones he got from the dream.
“Tap the gate with your other jade stone. It will deduct one contribution point and let you enter. If you try to enter otherwise, the second formation will punish you. Once paid, you can explore the first floor for a whole day. Then, do the same for upper floors, but there are restrictions there too and higher prices.”
Ye Jun nodded in understanding.
“The first floor is basically for normal knowledge, like about the world, its people, its regions, culture, and more. The second contains Mysterious Techniques till the Profound Rank, and the fourth contains cultivation manuals till the Profound Rank.”
He blinked in confusion and even though he didn’t want to interrupt, he still did. “What about the third one?”
“It is for practicing the Mysterious Techniques,” the old man replied patiently. “You can read everything inside, but if you wish to take it back, then you need to borrow it. That costs contribution points, so the disciples can practice the Mysterious Techniques on the third floor and see if it is suitable for them or not. The third floor is made like that.”
“Makes sense.” Ye Jun nodded.
“There are more floors, but they are not available to you. Not yet,” the old man said. “You will meet the manager a short distance away from the entrance, so if you wish to borrow something, deal with them.”
“Understood.”
“A fair warning. Do not eat more than you can chew. Inside is the hard work of multiple generations of our sect, so it can be overwhelming. Don’t let greed consume you.”
“I understand,” Ye Jun said, clasping his hands again. “Thank you for your help, Senior. I’ll remember your instructions.”
The old man nodded and went back to his meditation.
’No bubbles,’ Ye Jun noted as he moved away from him. ’Will I ever get bubbles for things like explanations? Or yapping?’
It was a nonsensical thought, so he ignored it and went towards the gate. Doing as he was told, he pressed the jade stone against its surface and the next second, his hand passed through the thick wooden gate as if it were just an illusion.
’Interesting. So there is no entrance otherwise.’
Ye Jun sent Qi into the jade stone and found a total of 2949 contribution points left. He had spent a total of fifty-one points in a single day and if he borrowed something, then even more.
Shaking his head, he entered the Scripture Hall and soon found himself standing in a dome-like structure with dozens upon dozens of shelves towering over him.
’Woah! This is awesome!’
However, what caught his attention were the attribute bubbles dropped by the disciples reading from the various scrolls.
’Am I dreaming?’ Ye Jun blinked in disbelief. ’No way I can collect even these Attributes. What the hell?’
