Chapter 147: Hints

He Wenxin didn’t wait for them to say anything. She tapped on her storage ring, as a set of manuals appeared on their table. A total of eight, Ye Jun counted.

She pushed her spectacles up and said, “I’ve been observing you for quite some time, and one thing I’ve noticed is your ridiculous speed of progress. It’s unmatchable.”

Ye Jun tried to smile and asked, “What about it? A handsome face like me deserves such talent.”

“I don’t think there is any relationship between the two,” He Wenxin blinked in confusion.

Meihui snickered beside him and said, “Please explain. I’m also quite curious, especially since you don’t even have a handsome face.”

Ye Jun rolled his eyes and said, “Not wasting time. Just tell me about these manuals.”

“Yes, so after observing you, I came to a conclusion that it wouldn’t be long before you reach the Peak-Stage of Qi Condensation Realm. Considering how reckless and lunatic you can get, I prepared these.”

She pointed at the manuals and continued.

“Before long, you’ll attempt to advance to Soul Tempering Realm. I knew that, so I wanted to help you after what you did for me that day. These manuals contain every single thing you need to know before attempting the breakthrough.”

Meihui’s smile vanished instantly, her gaze turning icy. She stared at the manuals as if they were the ones who poisoned someone.

Not noticing the change in atmosphere, He Wenxin added, “The main aspect of Soul Tempering Realm is forming a Nascent Soul, so I went through the entire Scriptures Pavilion and found this one.”

She pushed a scroll forward and said, “This has detailed instructions, guides and everything you’ll need for it. And it’s the best one in our sect, unless there are Manuals I’m unaware of.”

“You went through all of that?” Ye Jun was truly surprised. “How even?”

He Wenxin smiled and said, “Reading is one thing I excel at and take pride in. Not to mention I have special privileges due to my relationship with the Hall Master of Alchemist Hall.”

“Wait! You’re an Alchemist?” Ye Jun felt as if he hadn’t even known her, which technically wasn’t a lie.

“Yes, which brings me to my next point.”

To their surprise, she began to take out jade bottles containing pills one after another. While doing so, she also named them.

“Pain Nullifying Pill. Clear Mind Pellet. Heart-Calming Pill. All three are Tier 3 Pills, their function is as their names suggest. Then, this is the Tier 3 Soul Tempering Pill, it strengthens our Soul and makes the formation of the Nascent Soul easier. Standard advancement Pill.”

She paused before taking out more bottles.

“Essence Harmonizing Pill and Blood Spirit Pill. Both Tier 3. The first helps in balancing body Qi and soul energy so the body doesn’t reject soul growth. The latter basically gives a vitality boost in case you get injured from Tribulations.”

“There’s more?” Ye Jun was truly in disbelief. “Don’t tell me you made all of these?”

“Who else would? And I’m not rich enough to hire another alchemist,” He Wenxin said. “I’m a Tier 3 Alchemist, so all I could make are these. But it wasn’t enough so I asked Hall Master for this.”

She put down another Jade Bottle, which looked no different than the other ones but Ye Jun had a feeling something deep was swirling inside.

“Tier 4 Nine Revolutions Spirit Pill. It cycles the Soul Energy through the Sea of Consciousness, which we can’t access yet. You can grasp it and use it to form the Nascent Soul.”

He Wenxin took a deep breath and said, “I don’t know how long you’ll wait, so I brought them now. I’ll prepare more later on.”

For a moment, Ye Jun just sat there, shaken by her dedication. He could guess that she must have spent every minute of the last few months just to gather all of this. It was plain ridiculous, but she did it just so he could advance safely.

“Crazy…” Ye Jun muttered. “I don’t know what to say. I’m truly grateful for everything you did. Way more than I did actually.”

“No, if you hadn’t stood up for me that day, I would have been expelled. That would mean exile from my favourite thing and also my dreams. My life would have been over. I would be a living corpse.”

She bowed and said, “So, please accept these. I’m very thankful.”

Before Ye Jun could say anything, Meihui stood up and stormed towards the exit, her face darkened with silent fury, not at anyone else but herself.

He Wenxin got confused and asked, “Did I do something to offend him? It wasn’t my intention.”

“Your intentions were very pure, but sometimes things are out of our control,” Ye Jun jumped to his feet and said. “Just give me a few seconds.”

Without waiting for her answer, he ran after Meihui and caught up before she could leave. He was once again thankful for the Gale Pressure Chamber, otherwise he would have slipped on the floor.

He blocked her path and said, “Leaving like this doesn’t suit you.”

“I just remembered something important, now step aside,” Meihui muttered, not even looking into his eyes.

He sighed, “Are you jealous of her or what?”

“Why would I be jealous of her?” She protested.

“Because she did the same thing as you but poured more effort into it,” he sighed. “Is that what you’re thinking? That you didn’t do enough for me.”

She stayed silent.

“Don’t compare yourself to others,” Ye Jun smiled lovingly at her and said. “You helped me when no one did. You were there for me at my lowest. You risked exposing yourself just so you could protect me. Do you really think anyone can top it?”

He closed in on her, as she stepped back towards the wall.

“I appreciate everything she did, but I’ll never compare your efforts to hers. It’s unfair to even compare the both of you.” He said softly. “So, don’t do it either. No one can replace you in my heart. No one.”

He stepped forward, but she couldn’t back away anymore. He leaned forward, brushing against her soft cheeks as she mumbled, “She might see us.”

“Do I look like I care?” Ye Jun asked and got nothing in response.

So, he pushed his face more and gently kissed her cheeks before pulling back. He looked into her eyes, which were wide in disbelief, and smiled, “I feel like I need to remind you of things at times, silly girl. Don’t ever do this again, okay?”

He waited for a response, but Meihui just continued to stare at him in dead silence. Then, she pushed him away and left the abode at a speed that surprised even Ye Jun. He couldn’t even follow her silhouette.

“The hell!” He muttered. “Why does she run away at everything? It was just a small signal and even this fried her mind?”

He shook his head and went back inside. This was actually the reason he hadn’t made much progress with Meihui, even though he was sure he loved her.

He realised that long ago, but didn’t act upon it. He wanted to slowly make her realise her own feelings. Currently, she was a mess. Not to mention there was still a bit of distrust in her eyes. Not really towards him, but toward the world.

’And there’s my dilemma too.’

Part of him holding back was related to Meihui’s past. He had zero clues about it, but if they got together, then it would mean shouldering her happiness, her problems, her enemies, everything.

His rational mind was screaming at him to stay away. Why would he add more problems to his life, as if there weren’t enough already? But his emotional side was kicking it in protest, and he had to say his emotional side was winning.

It was adding a few more troubles. It was definitely worth it if he could have a wonderful and kind woman like Meihui.

’I am such an idiot. I already made her fall in love with me, and now you’re thinking of backing away. Scumbag.’

Meihui was very different than Song Liangxue and he knew if the betrayal came from him, she might lose something very precious.

’I will need to take things slow. Hopefully, she understands this and questions her feelings.’

By the time he reached He Wenxin, he found her scribbling something on a paper. Curious, he looked over and asked, “What are you doing?”

Without even looking up, she replied, “I’ve studied a lot on Soul Tempering Realm during this whole research, so I’m making some personal notes for you. I’m not a Soul Tempering Realm Cultivator though, so don’t take them too seriously.”

“How can I not when you’re working this hard?” Ye Jun said, taking his seat again.

“Because it’s stupid and dangerous,” He Wenxin replied flatly. “Don’t joke with your life. Now then, I’ll take my leave. Please contact me if there’s something you need to ask.”

As she turned around to leave, Ye Jun asked, “Have you heard anything about Liangxue recently?”
