Chapter 143: Back To Sect
Ye Jun didn’t stay in the inn any longer and left in the middle of the night. He let go of Alpha, but that didn’t mean he trusted him. The chances of him going back to his agent were low, but still there.
As a former assassin, he knew this could all just be an act.
But he trusted his instincts and experience of judging people. He knew that Alpha hated his agent for almost killing him with such misinformation, and he was also impressed by Ye Jun’s skill.
Ye Jun saw the obsession in that man’s eyes for assassination. That could be very useful for him in the long run.
Still, that didn’t mean anything when it came to his life so he directly went towards the Winxuan Inn. Striking iron while it was hot was always the best choice.
If Alpha had really informed his agent, then he would get the confirmation too. If he hadn’t, then he could trust him a bit more.
Finally, he found the Winxuan Inn, a small two-story structure tucked away in an alley. Beside it was a small shop selling some odd items, though currently it was closed.
’Are you there or not?’
Ye Jun suppressed his Qi and went into full stealth mode. Then, he sneaked behind the shop before using an old window to enter inside. He expected some traps, but there were none.
’Weird for an agent to not expect guests.’
Everything was dark, only dimly lighted by the two candles hanging on the ceiling. That didn’t affect him as he could see much more clearly in the dark, especially after reaching the Qi-Tempered Rank Physique.
It wasn’t much different than day for him.
Slowly, he crept towards the side room where he could hear someone cursing in anger. Stopping beside the gate, he focused on hearing what the man was saying.
“…damned brats! Just because they were born because two rich people fucked each other, they think they can order me around. One day….cough….one day! I’ll put slave leashes on their necks and have a bull burst their balls. Bunch of wretches…cough…”
Clearly, the man wasn’t in the best shape. Ye Jun could smell alcohol too, so he could guess the situation.
’So, someone directly hired him rather than through an organisation? Or is it someone from the organisation itself?’
Both could be true.
Ye Jun checked further for any traps, but didn’t find anything suspicious so he used the old way to enter the room. He didn’t use Qi, letting the circulation slow down to a rest and simply used his former assassin skills.
Inside, he found a middle-aged man leaning against the brick wall, having a big beard without a moustache and a bald head. He still didn’t notice Ye Jun.
After glancing around once more, Ye Jun pulled his dagger right at the man’s neck, making him stiffen, “Greetings.”
All effects of alcohol disappeared in an instant as Yuan gulped down and asked, “Who are you?”
“The one you tried to kill today,” Ye Jun whispered.
It only took a few seconds for everything to click in his mind as Yuan cursed, “Goddamn these brats! They gave me wrong information!”
“I’m curious, what did they say about me?” Ye Jun asked, crouching behind him.
Yuan didn’t dare to move with a sharp blade on his neck and answered truthfully, “They said I just need to kill a Seventh-Stage Qi Condensation Realm brat from the sect. I thought it’d be an easy task, but I still sent a Ninth-Stage Qi Condensation Realm Cultivator.”
But the information proved to be so wrong.
“Poor you!” Ye Jun chuckled. “Now then, tell me, who do you work for?”
The man remained silent.
“I won’t hesitate to kill you, you know.”
“I can’t tell. I’m physically unable to,” Yuan clenched his hands.
“So, you’re under an oath,” Ye Jun nodded. “Then, give me hints. I’ll remember them and deduce later on.”
Yuan hesitated for a second, which he regretted the next second as pure agony registered in his mind. He screamed and looked down at his right hand, two fingers were missing.
“I won’t give you another chance.”
That cold voice chilled his heart, as he tried to suppress the pain and used his other hand to point at the wall. A wolf’s skull hung there in all of its glory, every bone pristine white. Then, he pointed at a table and managed to voice out, “…drawer.”
Ye Jun went towards the table and checked the drawer, finding a small bag filled with silver coins. He pocketed it and turned around, “That’s it?”
Yuan nodded and said, “Please…”
However, he couldn’t complete his words as a sharp blade dug deep into his skull, as he saw Ye Jun looming over him like a death god in his last moments.
“Idiot!” Ye Jun shook his head and muttered. “Why do you think I turned my back on you?”
He opened Yuan’s hand, finding a purple jade there. He crushed it without any hesitation and left the scene. The stone could have been useful in finding out about the organisation, but it was a tracking one, so he couldn’t carry it around.
Ye Jun didn’t stay in the city any longer. Under the beautiful crimson moon, he escaped White Gale City, knowing he couldn’t take any more chances by staying there.
He slowed down his pace after he made sure he was far away from the city and raised his head, the crimson moon reflecting in his eyes.
’Why is it crimson?’
The people of this world never questioned it, as the moon was always like this for them. But Ye Jun had seen a different shade of it, so he was very curious about it.
’Why crimson of all colours? This world has so many Mysteries.’
Perhaps, that was why the people did not question it. Anything beyond their understanding was the matter of Cultivators and a mortal trying to gain knowledge of Immortals was frowned upon.
Shaking those thoughts off, Ye Jun thought about his experience in the city, ’How did they manage to find me?’
He was very curious about it, as he had made sure to keep himself hidden. It surely happened quite early considering how quickly they acted. The perpetrator wasn’t an ordinary person.
’Hmm, will they be surprised to see me in the sect? Maybe I can use it to find them.’
He had low hopes for that.
He continued pondering over various things and slowly made his way back to the White Gale Pavilion.
By the time the sun greeted the lands of Xuanwu again, Ye Jun found himself standing at the base of the mountain range upon which the Pavilion was located.
He did feel as if he had passed through many invisible barriers, which was no wonder. He actually expected the sect to increase the security after learning of the Lord. Fortunately, he had his identity stone.
At the base, he was stopped by two disciples who were, to his surprise, in the Soul Tempering Realm. They checked him using a strange artefact which reminded Ye Jun of airports on Earth.
“You can go!”
After finding nothing, they let him enter. Ye Jun could guess the usage of that Artefact, ’The Lord can create thralls, so it probably checks if we are still in control of ourselves.’
Unfortunately, Ye Jun didn’t think it would be enough. The Lord was someone even his system couldn’t understand properly, so how could these normal artefacts do anything.
He raised his head and groaned upon seeing thousands of steps of stairs before him. For once, Ye Jun didn’t like the fact that Cultivators lived on mountains and even built sects there.
Sighing, he kicked the ground and skipped many steps in a single leap. Just like that, he continued to ascend at an incredible speed using nothing but his enhanced Physique.
Before long, he reached the sect’s entrance and entered it. Stepping on the vast plaza filled with White Gale Pavilion disciples, he smiled and inhaled the fresh air.
“Ah! It feels great to be back!”
“Does it?”
Ye Jun turned around and found a familiar face leaning against the entrance gate’s pillar, “Third Seat! What are you doing here?”
“Learn to respect your seniors,” Third Seat sighed and came towards him. “I learned some interesting things from White Gale City, so I was going to investigate there. You don’t happen to know anything about it, right?”
“Does the city also come under the Law Enforcement Hall?” Ye Jun blinked in surprise.
Third Seat nodded, “Technically, we hold the highest power in lawful matters in every region under the Sect’s control.”
“Should have expected that,” Ye Jun smiled warmly at him and said. “Then, perhaps you can help me. The matters in the city, are they related to a murder beside Winxuan Inn?”
“So, you do know about it,” Third Seat turned his head and said. “Want to talk about it over a meal? I assume you’re tired after your journey.”
