Chapter 71: Vacate The Position
Gang Feng never liked politics, only caring about battles and cultivation. That was why he had even refused the opportunity to enter the Heavenly Frost Palace in his younger days.
Sadly, even the Iron Frost Sect had things like that, so he actually liked coming out on days like these where he could see some interesting battles and also potential disciples to recruit.
He was enjoying everything until one of the disciples he had recruited returned half-dead from the treasure tomb. Ye Chen was a good talent, and he had spent effort securing him. So he quickly hurried to treat him so that the boy could be saved.
Just as he returned, he was faced with a question that made him want to hang himself. Of course, he knew the whole truth and even wanted to speak it. After all, Ye Jun had ruined one of his disciples.
Unfortunately, the man was protected by the Song Clan. Even if he spoke the truth, nothing would happen to Ye Jun. Instead, his own sect might punish him for making such a decision.
Nobody in the entire North wanted to offend the Song Clan, after all.
’It’s a dead end,’ Gang Feng groaned in frustration. ’Why don’t these high-ass people just fight each other instead of running their mouths like pigs?’
He glanced at the other two Envoys. Gu Changge from the Azure Current Sect and Han Yuexin from the White Gale Pavilion. He hated those two, so he knew very well what their answers would be.
’Bastards!’
In the end, he had to ignore Ye Zhong’s pleading look. “We divided areas among ourselves, and I wasn’t present in Ye Jun’s area, so I wouldn’t know.”
Neutrality was the best he could do at the moment. Still, he felt disdain rising inside him for Ye Jun and Song Liangxue.
“Same for me,” Gu Changge said, not wanting to get dragged into this matter.
On the other hand, Han Yuexin put a finger on her lips and said, “I wonder what happened? My memory isn’t particularly good, you see.”
’She is scheming something again,’ Gang Feng scoffed, knowing her too well.
Meanwhile, Ye Jun raised an eyebrow upon hearing her and smiled knowingly. “I can understand. Perhaps, if you get to admit a very talented disciple into your sect, the happiness alone might help your memory.”
“Such good advice. I actually remember things now,” Han Yuexin smiled and said, “Ye Jun and Rong Hua spent their time hunting Spiritual Beasts and avoided other people. I remember getting impressed by your skills.”
Everyone was left speechless by their exchange. Had they just witnessed someone bribing an Envoy in front of everyone? And the Envoy was shameless enough to accept it?
Meihui shook her head, already knowing Ye Jun was going to join the White Gale Pavilion just because of that woman.
Ye Zhong’s complexion darkened. He already knew the truth, yet he hated the Envoys for speaking lies so openly. His clan’s tragedy had turned into a joke for everyone. His son’s life was hanging by a thread, possibly with permanent damage.
All of it was nothing more than a joke to these people.
’I swear I will one day bring down every single one of you. I will give you fates worse than death.’
“We have enough proof then,” Ye Jun turned toward him. “Is there anything else you wish to say, Father?”
“No,” Ye Zhong said coldly. “I will look into the matter later.”
Ye Zhong didn’t want to let this go. Every fiber of his being wanted to strangle Ye Jun, but at the moment it would be a foolish move. It would only result in the ruin of everything he had built.
’Patience,’ he reminded himself.
“Good, but I have something to say,” Ye Jun continued, his face suddenly dropping. “I’m actually very sad about how my own family put such accusations on me. I’ve stayed in the clan because I loved you all despite our differences, but now…”
He wiped away tears that nobody knew where they came from. “I feel hurt knowing that my own family hates me and has abandoned me.”
This time, even Song Liangxue gave him a long look before nodding in approval. She caught Meihui’s glance as they both sighed quietly to themselves.
“What are you trying to say?” the Grand Elder asked suspiciously.
“I’m leaving the Ye Clan,” Ye Jun declared, his voice filled with pain. “I hate to do this, but I’m forced to. I will also give my Young Master position to Ye Chen. He deserves it more.”
Everyone was shocked to hear his declaration, especially since he had clung to that status his entire life. Not to mention the consequences of making such a decision.
“You know what this means, right?” Ye Zhong growled.
Ye Jun knew it very well.
Leaving one’s family wasn’t common in this world. If someone did it, they would be shamed for it because of the culture of filial piety. It was akin to betrayal, and the person would often be shunned for it.
There were exceptions, but those depended heavily on the clan’s influence.
“I mean, I’m not abandoning the Ye Clan,” Ye Jun said, glancing back at Song Liangxue. “I’m just marrying into her clan, which means I’ll have to leave my family.”
He smiled at Ye Zhong. “That’s not a problem, right?”
“Don’t you have the pride of a man?” Ye Heng shouted from the side. “Women marry into a man’s family, not the other way around.”
Ye Jun already knew that. It was a patriarchal society even though strength ultimately ruled. A man marrying into his wife’s family was looked down upon because it implied weakness.
Fortunately, Ye Jun didn’t care about that at all.
“You’re all just jealous that you can’t find a beautiful wife to support you,” Ye Jun muttered under his breath, earning a few giggles from those beside him.
Others simply gave him strange looks. For the first time, they were witnessing the limits of true shamelessness. Some of them even began to admire him, mostly the rogue participants.
They didn’t blame him for the decision. After all, if they could marry a beautiful and talented woman like Song Liangxue, even they would join her family without hesitation.
Who would say no to that?
Ye Jun cleared his throat and said, “What I meant was that I don’t have a problem with it. We love each other, and that’s all that matters. So yes, I’ll fulfill your wish today.”
He smiled coldly at Ye Zhong. “I vacate the position of Young Master, and I no longer belong to the Ye Clan.”
