Chapter 148: Rewards
It had been a long time since Ye Jun talked with Song Liangxue, as she chose seclusion right after entering the Sect. Ever since then, she never came out, focusing fully on her Cultivation.
After so long, he was getting worried about her, even though he knew she would be completely fine.
He Wenxin turned around and said, “We haven’t heard anything about her since the day she joined our Sect. Many even forgot about her.”
’As expected,’ Ye Jun sighed, “Alright, thanks for everything. I’m really thankful.”
“If you don’t mind me asking, what are you going to do now?” He Wenxin asked. “Going into seclusion?”
“Seclusion? Hell nah!” Ye Jun grinned, jumping to his feet. “There’s a lot to do.”
“You speak so weirdly at times,” He Wenxin muttered. “If not seclusion, then what?”
“You’ll know soon,” Ye Jun smiled mysteriously. “You can leave for now.”
She shrugged nonchalantly and left the abode. Knowing Ye Jun, she didn’t have to worry about not knowing what he was about to do. The man had a habit of gathering attention by his actions.
Meanwhile, Ye Jun put everything in the storage ring, planning to look through all of it later. For now, other things took precedence.
He took a bath and then wore new robes, which were basically the uniform of the sect. He checked everything on him, then he left the abode too.
His first destination led him to the same old lodging near the cliff where he found Han Yuexin in meditation. He didn’t have to wait long, as she had already sensed his presence but didn’t want to stop Cultivation midway.
Cultivation usually required refining Qi through circulations, so if one stopped that circulation midway, it could cause backlash. That was why Cultivators who often cultivated chose safe and secret places for seclusion.
They didn’t want anyone to disturb them.
Finally, Han Yuexin slowly opened her eyes and turned her head at him, “Took you long enough to come back, huh. What were you doing?”
“Practicing. I’m a very diligent disciple, you see,” Ye Jun smiled and strode forward. “Disciple Ye Jun greets Elder Han.”
“Stop acting like you care about it,” Han Yuexin snorted and said. “So, everything okay? Why did you come to visit me?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Ye Jun was speechless. “Where is my compensation?”
“What compensation?” Han Yuexin asked in confusion.
Ye Jun just stared dead at her.
“Haha! Stop giving me that look,” Han Yuexin chuckled. “I was just joking.”
“I nearly died for that and even sacrificed all my wealth,” Ye Jun said, rolling his eyes. “So, I don’t think I can joke about that. I’m dirt poor.”
“How did that girl even choose you?” Han Yuexin asked. “You’re so cheap. Do you even know what others will think if they heard the son-in-law of Song Clan saying stuff like this?”
“That wouldn’t make me rich, so I don’t care about that.”
Han Yuexin smiled softly and said, “Don’t worry. You contributed greatly to the sect. If it wasn’t for you, we both would have died there and the sect would have no information about that entity. Pavilion Master was very happy with you.”
“It doesn’t matter much,” Ye Jun muttered, looking at the clouds drifting past the cliff. “All the villagers died anyways.”
The smile died on Han Yuexin’s face, as she also turned to face the clouds and said, “It is the way of this world, Disciple Jun. And if you walk on this path, you will face things like these often.”
She chuckled dryly, “People will die around you. Your enemies, or maybe some strangers, and sometimes even your loved ones. You cannot achieve the Dao without climbing a hill of bones. Dao demands sacrifices.”
Ye Jun stayed silent. He knew it already, since long ago. But he still felt disgusted by it. He felt as if some god designed this world just so they could enjoy others’ sufferings.
It wasn’t any different than a gladiator arena. Make limited resources, so people would fight for them, taking them as the reward for winning. But then again, humans weren’t any better. They were the ones who shaped the storylines of the world.
He sighed and knocked on his head, “My bad. I didn’t come here to spread depression.”
Seeing that he didn’t want to talk about it, Han Yuexin nodded and handed over a storage ring, “Take it. It’s filled with Beast Cores. It must have taken a lot to bring that Paragon down so I personally added more in it.”
Ye Jun took it and checked inside. Instantly, his eyes shone with avarice. There were so many Tier 1 and Tier 2 Beast Cores, and more than twenty Tier 3 Beast Cores, most belonging to the Fire element, which meant even he could use them.
This was so much more than he spent in the Greywood Village.
’Fuck! It was worth it!’ Ye Jun tried to contain his happiness and asked, “You’re giving the Storage Ring too?”
“Yes. It’s a part of the reward.”
’Noice. I can sell it too and it’ll fetch a good amount. Storage Rings aren’t just available to anyone.’
Ye Jun was very satisfied with the rewards, but Han Yuexin wasn’t done yet. She took out a long wooden box and threw it at him. As he caught it, she said, “This is also yours.”
Curious, Ye Jun quickly slipped the storage ring on his finger and opened the wooden box. Inside, he found a gorgeous longsword that instantly caught his attention.
It was a slim straight sword forged from dark blacksteel, its blade matte black with faint ember-red veins inside the metal. Its edge shone in a silver-red glow as he drew it.
He marvelled at its beautiful design. The guard was simple and narrow, shaped like burning wings. The grip was wrapped in dark crimson cord with no flashy decorations.
It was as if someone designed the sword just for him. Especially since it fit so well in his hands.
“Its name is Black Ember Sword, taking after its simplicity. A Tier 4 weapon made to bring pure destruction upon enemies. I thought about your Fire Affinity before choosing this.”
Ye Jun’s eyes widened in disbelief. He stared at the sword deeply, still wondering if it was real. He could feel the power in the sword just by holding it, but he still didn’t expect them to give a Tier 4 Artefact as a reward.
“I see you’re still underestimating what you did,” Han Yuexin shook her head helplessly. “Well, it doesn’t matter, you can just enjoy the rewards.”
“Agreed.” Ye Jun beamed in happiness. Still, he was a bit cautious and asked. “You want something out of it?”
“Want a beating?” Han Yuexin glared at him. “As I said, this could have potentially brought the end to our Sect, since that entity started in our region. So you basically saved this sect from destruction since now we can mobilize greater forces. That’s why the rewards.”
“I see. That makes sense.”
Ye Jun hummed in understanding before doing a few Sword Style stances with it. He knew them, but wasn’t a master of them. Now that he had a proper weapon, he decided to learn some Sword Arts too.
’I will have to see who has Sword Mastery in the top 200 of the rankings.’
He did have Fallen Star Sword Art and had even improved on it, but he was still far from using it effectively. For that, he would need to ask Song Liangxue.
’I wonder when she will leave her seclusion.’
Ye Jun stopped, then poured his Qi into the sword. The best part about higher Tier Artefacts was the fact that he could use Qi properly through them, especially if it matched their Affinity.
When Qi entered the blade, red lines began to flow like fire under ash. It was a beautiful sight. He could even feel that using Fire Based Mysterious Techniques would be easier with this sword.
’Noice.’
It was a heat conductor too, made with very good material so it wouldn’t break even if he fought with his full power.
“It also has a Technique engraved on it,” Han Yuexin said, watching him swing it around. “It allows the flames to penetrate the defence upon contact. Though for that, you will need to attack it a few times.”
“So it’s basically a stacking ability,” Ye Jun muttered, finally stopping and sheathing the blade. “Worth it for the penetration power. It can basically shred defence, but I’ll have to look into it a bit more.”
“Indeed. Practice more and find out about its limits yourself,” Han Yuexin nodded. “Also, I have transferred a thousand Contribution Points into your badge along with a few hours in each of the training rooms.”
Ye Jun’s eyes lit up, as he quickly checked it. Sure enough, there were more than a thousand Contribution Points and also ten hours in each training room.
“This is better than anything I expected,” Ye Jun said.
“I’m glad it pleases you.”
