Chapter 53: The Tomb
Considering the structure, Ye Jun was sure it was a tomb. Perhaps some old Cultivator had someone design this, or their descendants did it.
And a tomb meant treasure.
In this world’s culture, a person was buried after their death with lots of wealth, their possessions, and many valuable things. Especially someone influential and powerful.
That was why whenever an old tomb was found, people gathered to plunder it. It was a shameful act to defile the dead, but the lure of treasures was too strong.
’So they seek out a Formation Master to set up traps and security for the intruders.’
Those traps corroded gradually over time, allowing the entry to become easier. Sometimes they grew stronger over time though, as they were designed that way.
It all depended on how the tomb’s owner wanted it to be. Sometimes they left behind an Inheritance and used the tomb as trial grounds.
Whatever the case was, Ye Jun could feel that the tomb owner wasn’t too powerful. The traps didn’t feel like they were prepared by someone truly powerful.
’It’s odd. If they weren’t powerful, then how is the formation so powerful?’
According to Meihui, an Array Master could put restrictions on their formations, such as the one placed on this tomb where only Cultivators of the Qi Condensation Realm and below could enter.
However, its capability to hold back higher-realm Cultivators depended on its structure and rank too. So, the fact that Meihui couldn’t force herself in said enough about the Formation’s strength.
Yet the owner of the tomb was supposedly weak.
This oddity made Ye Jun stop at the hall’s entrance as he observed it carefully. He wondered if the corridor was just meant to fool others into believing the traps were weak.
He truly believed the traps in the corridor were weak. As long as one was careful, they could avoid them easily.
Just then, Ye Jun caught sight of red liquid pooling beneath his feet and turned around. It came from the corridor, which told Ye Jun about its origin.
’Some of them couldn’t make it. And that means death.’
This was the true Martial World, a place where death was common. If one wanted to rise here, they would have to climb a mountain of bones, knowing well enough that they could join those bones at any time.
Still, Cultivators faced the risks and everything else just to cultivate further. Even if it meant death, they treaded on that path willingly.
Ye Jun stared at the blood somberly and shook his head. Stepping forward, he entered the hall, ready to face any kind of traps. But nothing happened.
Still, he remained vigilant and began to survey his surroundings. The opposite side of the entrance held a giant metal door. It was closed, which meant there were definitely some clues in this hall to open it.
The stone statues of warriors towered over him, making him feel small and vulnerable. If even one of them came to life and stepped on him, he would get crushed like an ant.
’Let’s see what do we have here?’ Ye Jun went toward the wall, pausing before each step to make sure he didn’t step on a trap. Fortunately, his instincts were there to warn him of danger.
Behind the statues, the wall held murals depicting something he couldn’t make out. He went closer and studied them, realizing they were telling a story in a pattern of three murals each.
The first mural showed a young man kneeling, being kicked by a figure in golden robes. A broken sword lay nearby.
The second mural beside it showed the same young man sitting in a forest, eating insects beside Black Clover Trees. His eyes bulged outward, vein-like patterns emerging from them.
The third mural followed the story, showing the young man standing before a kneeling figure in golden robes. The mural was so vivid that Ye Jun could almost feel the figure’s agony as his eyes were ripped apart.
“Interesting.” Ye Jun muttered. “A revenge story. But why show it here?”
“To remind the ones in the afterlife of the greatness of the dead one.”
Ye Jun turned toward the entrance, finding Xie Yan standing there with three other people from her clan. He smiled, knowing she had dismissed others after his warning.
Still, he asked, “The blood?”
Xie Yan sighed and stepped aside. More people with somber expressions walked out, wearing the robes of the Tang Clan.
“Ohh!” Ye Jun understood the situation immediately.
“Is this safe?” Xie Yan asked cautiously.
“I wouldn’t know,” Ye Jun just smiled and went back to studying the murals.
Xie Yan looked around and then began to walk forward, making sure she and her people were safe. The other Xie Clan members followed in her footsteps carefully.
The Tang Clan didn’t say anything to them and simply went to the other side to study the murals. They were headed by a young man with sharp features, a lean figure, and deep black eyes glistening with a calculating glint.
He must have also come to the same conclusion as Ye Jun. The key to opening the gates was in the hall, so they had to find it quickly.
The silence between them was broken by footsteps coming from the corridor. Soon, Ye Chen stepped inside the hall with the Ye Clan following him closely.
The moment they spotted Ye Jun, their noses flared up in rage. All of them were aware of the things that Ye Jun had done, so all they wanted now was to kill him.
“You bastard!” one of them shouted in anger and started running toward him.
Ye Jun turned toward him and smiled. Then, he simply pressed a stone on the wall as it sank in like sand in the ocean.
In the next second, three arrows shot out from hidden locations and lodged directly into the man’s backside.
“AGHHH!”
His screams turned painful as the three arrows were deeply inserted into his rear, drawing blood and other disgusting substances out.
Ye Chen clenched his hand and waved it coldly. “Deal with him.”
As two of his followers tried to save the shouting man, Ye Chen took a step forward and grinned. “It was your biggest mistake to enter this tomb. I can now kill you, and nobody would even care.”
“You’re stealing my line, you know,” Ye Jun grinned back. “Old habits die hard, right, Little Brother?”
