Afterward, the distant sound of a Scottish bagpipe floated through the evening breeze.

Kouya looked up and realized they had wandered near the café where Vigne worked.

“Let’s stop for some coffee,” Kouya said after a brief thought.

He opened the café door. The bell chimed.

“Welcome—”

The pleasant greeting halted midway.

Vigne froze, eyes wide. “Y-you… why are you here?” she stammered, stepping back slightly.

“I’m just bringing Kanna for coffee,” Kouya said dryly.
