Chapter 86: Is Kanna Jealous?
“You’re coming with me?” Kouya looked down at the blue-eyed little dragon, surprised, a brow raising slightly.
You usually won’t move a muscle when you’re eating, right?
But when he turned his head, Kouya was instantly speechless.
All the snacks he’d just bought were already gone—completely devoured by this little dragon. Not a single crumb remained on the plate beside her.
No wonder she wanted to tag along. Of course she did—it must be for more food!
“Sorry to trouble you, kouya-Sama. Please hurry, if you can,” Tohru said politely, tail swaying lightly behind her as steam from the kitchen rose in the air.
Kouya nodded, pocketed his phone, and stepped outside with the blue-eyed dragon following behind, her small steps light but determined.
There were plenty of supermarkets around the neighborhood. He’d seen them earlier that day, so there was no need to search; he knew exactly where to go.
Just outside the complex was a bustling food street, filled with color and sound.
The sun was sinking low, dyeing the sky orange. The evening breeze carried warmth and the faint smell of fried garlic and scallions. Steam rose in curling wisps from the stalls, blending with laughter, sizzling oil, and clinking plates. Children ran by holding skewers of grilled meat, couples shared taiyaki, and the glow of red paper lanterns stretched into the distance. The entire street pulsed with life and the aroma of freshly cooked food.
Across the street, a convenience store chain’s sign glowed in the twilight. Kouya was just about to cross when his sleeve was suddenly tugged.
“Stare—”
The little dragon tilted her head up, her blue eyes wide and unblinking, then turned her gaze toward a nearby crepe stand, her tail flicking once as if to emphasize her intent.
If you want it, go buy it yourself! Why are you staring at me like that!
But Kanna fully embraced her “if you don’t feed me, I’ll keep staring” principle.
She looked up, her sky-blue eyes fixed on him, saying nothing, just silently staring. “Stare—”
Kouya finally gave in with a sigh.
He could only take her over to the stand.
“Good evening!” the uniformed shop clerk greeted them warmly. “What flavor would you like? We have fresh cream, chocolate, candied apple, orange peel—lots of great ones!”
The sizzling sound of the crepe batter hitting the hot plate filled the air. The smell of melting butter and sugar wafted around them, and Kanna’s nose twitched slightly as she leaned closer to the counter.
Crepes were thinner than pancakes, made with wheat flour, and came in sweet or savory types. They were cheap, popular, and found on almost every street corner.
“All of them,” Kanna said suddenly.
“Eh?” The clerk blinked. “What did this little girl just say?”
“I want to eat all of them,” Kanna answered calmly, as if this were the most natural thing in the world.
The clerk let out an awkward laugh. “Uh, eating too much at once might give you a stomachache…”
Stomachache? That word doesn’t even exist in this dragon’s vocabulary!
She could eat from dawn till dusk without stopping—she was a true eating machine!
Kouya sighed and said flatly, “One cream crepe and one orange peel crepe, please.”
“Right away,” the clerk replied, quickly preparing the order, flipping the thin crepe with practiced skill.
Moments later, both crepes were ready. Before Kouya could hand one to her, Kanna blinked and said:
“I want the cream one. I don’t eat orange peel.”
What? You’re picky now?
Weren’t you the one who wanted to taste everything before?
“Orange peel is bitter and nasty.”
“Bitter?” Kouya muttered, taking a bite of the orange peel crepe. It was tangy and sweet, the citrus zest blending with the soft wheat flavor perfectly.
That’s not bitter at all…
Wait.
You don’t mean orange peel flavored crepe—you mean actual orange peels?!
No wonder you said it was bitter! Who eats raw orange peel?!
Carrying one crepe each, they continued toward the convenience store.
But after just a few steps, his sleeve was tugged again.
He turned—and saw that Kanna had already finished hers. She looked up at him, her cheeks still full, eyes gleaming with quiet hunger.
“Stare—”
Kouya rubbed his forehead, sighing. “What do you want this time?”
“That.” Kanna pointed toward a nearby takoyaki stand, where steam and the scent of grilled batter filled the air.
The freshly cooked octopus balls sizzled on the grill, their golden crust glistening under the stall’s light—crispy outside, soft inside, and irresistibly savory. The vendor brushed on a coat of rich sauce, added a sprinkle of green onions, and the smell hit them both like a wave.
“Eat, eat, eat…”
Kouya’s face darkened, but he still bought her some. Then came fried bananas, water buns, and other street treats. By the time they reached the end of the street, Kanna had sampled half the stalls.
Luckily, everything on this street was cheap—one crepe cost only 300 yen, and takoyaki just 400 (around 2$). Nothing too painful even after a whole round.
The crowd thickened as the night deepened. Groups of people laughed, couples held hands, and maids in uniforms passed out flyers along the sidewalk. Neon lights reflected in puddles from earlier rain, and music drifted softly from a nearby café.
As Kouya and Kanna passed, a shy maid with light freckles and a sweet smile hurried up to him, handing him a flyer.
“Our café is holding an event tomorrow! You and your little sister should come!” she said, her voice bright but a little nervous.
Kouya nodded, taking the flyer and getting ready to leave.
“Um…” The girl bit her lip, blushing faintly. “Could you… tell me your LINE?”
“Huh?”
“Uh—it’s not for me!” she blurted out quickly, her face turning red. “It’s for my friend! Your sister’s so cute, she just wanted to take a few pictures if that’s okay…”
A soft giggle came from nearby.
Kouya turned to see a few other maids near the drink shop entrance, covering their mouths and laughing playfully. Their frilly skirts swayed as they exchanged amused looks.
Charisma was a mysterious thing—intangible, yet undeniable.
Like a husky trying to act like a wolf—it never works.
Even though Kouya had sealed his powers, his natural aura still showed through in every move he made. Tall, calm, and confident—of course people noticed him. There was something magnetic about him that drew attention without him even trying.
But just then, his sleeve was tugged again.
Kanna looked up at him, her cheeks slightly puffed. “Tohru-sama’s waiting. Hurry up.”
Kouya nodded and turned back to the maid. “Sorry, I’m a bit busy right now.”
“It’s fine! Um, hope to see you tomorrow!” The girl forced a smile, bowed slightly, then walked away with a faintly downcast look.
Kanna, still holding his sleeve, took the lead toward the store.
As they walked, Kouya couldn’t shake a feeling that something was off.
You didn’t rush me while eating—but now you suddenly can’t wait?
Could it be… jealousy?
The thought made him smirk faintly, but when he glanced at her, she was already pretending to focus on the crosswalk lights ahead, her tail swaying just a little faster than before.
Inside the supermarket, Kouya began searching for the seasoning Tohru needed. Shelves stacked high with bright packaging lined the aisles, and the hum of air-conditioning filled the space. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a familiar figure.
Long purple hair, a calm expression of focus—she was pushing a cart near the clothing section, studying an item in her hands with faint hesitation.
It was Vigne.
Since it was Saturday, she wasn’t in her school uniform. Instead, she wore a plain white blouse and blue jeans—a simple combination, but one that made her look effortlessly elegant. Her hair shimmered faintly under the fluorescent lights, and her presence had a quiet grace that stood out even here.
Maybe his gaze lingered too long, because Vigne suddenly looked up. Seeing Kouya, she froze, her cheeks flushing before she hastily set down what she was holding.
Kouya’s lips twitched slightly. Too late—I already saw. It was just a B-cup bra, nothing scandalous.
