His tone was absolute without room for rebuttal. He lacked a strong expression while looking at the other esper; however, his gaze exuded an unfamiliar intensity.

The other esper went stiff, as though especially surprised by the attitude of his colleague. He fell silent for a moment, but then he realized, why would he fear Friz? They were in the same rank and position.

While wary, the esper lifted his head high and met Devion’s gaze.

“Why? He’s the only A-class Guide here. What right do you have to order me to find another guide?”

After all, he was still an A-class esper; he absolutely could not make himself a joke in front of others. He could not just let it be.

The others were also quite surprised, but since this was a fight between two A-class espers, they could not just intervene.

“Ah, Young Master Aurelle…” Diana could not help but voice out. She had not expected this sudden turn of events. As a guide, she also respected such claims, but she did not have any choice in front of her.

Aurelle was the only one who could fully guide the A-class espers.

“Can you please give an exception?” She almost lowered her head after saying that, ashamed to even voice such words.

However, there was nothing they could do. They could tell if a guide was already bonded to an esper. If that was the case, then Aurelle could not possibly guide another esper.

Clearly, Aurelle was not an imprinted guide yet. So, he could still guide someone else besides his esper.

Ayen’s gaze landed on Diana. He understood her difficulty and her willingness to bow her head slightly for such a request. Ayen had seen such situations a lot. Team leaders always suffered a lot.

“I can’t.” Ayen’s answer dampened their spirits. Understanding was just that; it did not mean he would actually put an exemption.

Was he selfish? Ayen always admitted that. He would not do something he was repulsed by just because he sympathized with them. Ayen also did not have any intention to displease Khal and Devion over such small matters.

Right, small matters. This world had nothing to do with them. Whether it was a real past or a world conjured by a dungeon.

The A-class esper’s face soured, and so did the others.

“You heard his answer.”

Devion put an arrogant smirk on his lips. And unlike with his real face, it did not have that contrast to his overall impression.

Friz’s face was not as angelic as Devion’s. So, it could not deceive anyone. He only looked like an arrogant prick.

Ayen narrowed his eyes and could not help but subconsciously pinch the skin on Devion’s waist. Devion blinked and looked at him; the corner of his lips twitched slightly.

Devion put away the smirk and finally stopped his intention to ridicule or tease the A-class esper. Understanding Ayen’s intention, he shifted his gaze to Diana.

“Is there another guiding room? Best if we’re alone.”

Diana snapped out of her thoughts. Although it was obvious she still had a lot on her mind, she nodded.

“Let me, guide you there.”

Devion nodded, holding Ayen’s hand; they followed Diana. They ignored the others. What was more important was to find a place where they could talk alone.

They were led to the guiding room located deep in the corridor. Unlike the earlier room with three beds, it only had one bed inside.

The private guiding room flickered outside. Actually, Ayen already knew what this room meant.

“This is the room. The privacy is guaranteed.” Ayen sensed that Diana spoke without any meaning to them and was only assuring them. Before she left, she still gave Ayen one last glance.

Then she sighed when Ayen did not speak a word. She finally turned around, her pace increasing with each step.

After she was out of their sight, Ayen and Devion entered the private room. It was not that small inside, but of course, there was not much furniture inside.

The bed was more important.

“Oh. She’s perceptive,” Devion commented, giving Diana her merit. He went and pulled out the mattress and threw it to the side. He began to rummage for a new cover.

Ayen sat in a high chair and watched Devion work. The A-class esper he was inhabiting was not that tall, and his figure could not be compared to the real Devion.

“She’s a good team leader,” Ayen also agreed.

Most private rooms were booked by most pairs for intense guiding sessions, and so the soundproof system installed inside the room was guaranteed.

This was the reason they commended Diana.
