Chapter 181: To Vent One’s Anger (4)
Contrary to their tense expressions, Khal and Devion exuded a friendly demeanor. They suppressed their presence, expressing goodwill.
“This is no simple matter,” Devion’s voice rang, tone not arrogant as usual. “We can’t thank you enough for saving our guide’s friend. Let us express our gratitude.”
Khal nodded at him. Ayen did not intervene. As for exposing their relationship? He did not care anymore. The fact would be known soon, after all.
“Tell us what you need. We’ll grant it as long as it’s within our power.” Khal’s tone was calm. His words almost say granting anything to Georgina.
And these were not just big words; everyone here knew that the two were capable of doing so. But of course, it was also laced with the underlying meaning of not hoping for too much.
Khal was always like that. What Georgina did gained their immense gratitude; rewarding her was a must. Yet, it was not enough to disregard anything, no matter the cost.
Only two people in this world could make Khal move in that direction.
“Uh.” Despite the goodwill, Georgina did not know what to do. This surprised her the most. She did save Keeran, but she was not hoping for anything at all.
Suddenly, finding out she was connected to the guide of the two SS-class espers stumped Goergina to the core. She did not know whether to accept this or not. But if she refused, would the two espers hold a grudge?
She could not help but look at Jarred, who also seemed to have lost his soul. He already suspected that Ayen was the two espers’ guide, but actually confirming it from their mouths was still quite a shock.
Jarred did not look at her. Georgina almost cursed. This one was not reliable at all.
The trio could see that they were particularly overwhelmed. This was something they expected somehow. Khal and Devion were already used to this, while Ayen was more or less adapting.
The reactions they got were always like this. In fact, Ayen’s reaction when they first met was quite an oddity. He did not seem scared or excited to see them at all.
Ayen’s indifference left a mark on them, which gave them a somewhat peculiar but comfortable feeling for years.
“You can take your time to think of what you want.” Devion had this patience. Georgina earned this right. He glanced at Khal, who also nodded.
Ayen finally intervened at this moment.
“Don’t worry. This is my intention. They won’t do anything to you.” His voice was so confident that it somehow eased the tension in the air.
Devion chuckled. Khal merely smiled, but their expressions were enough to prove what Ayen said.
Georgina stared at Ayen. Slowly, she nodded.
“Although, I don’t require any reward… but since you insist, I’ll think hard about what I need.” Georgina had to think about what was reasonable enough that she could use. Probably weapons?
The reward talks stopped at that moment. Ayen remained inside the room, looking out at Keeran. While Devion and Khal went outside and began their talk with Jarred and Georgina.
The other subordinates were left behind around the room to protect Ayen.
They did not go too far, just to the next room. Khal had information from his men, but only Jarred and mostly Georgina, who had infiltrated inside, could help them.
Once alone inside, and Ayen was not around, Khal and Devion’s demeanor changed slightly. The tension rose again, but since it was a serious meeting, the two government espers maintained their professional expressions.
Khal and Devion nodded inwardly, satisfied with their demeanor. If they seemed subservient to them, the two might not waste their time talking with the two espers. After all, what was the use of cooperation with such people?
“We’re not here to intervene with your war,” Devion made it clear. Their presence also would not be long. “Your affairs had nothing to do with us. You already know that this affected our guide, and we’re here to deal with the Nevaris clan.”
Their intentions had to be clear. It did not matter if Jarred reported it to the higher-ups. In reality, they preferred it if he did.
After saying their stance, Devion chose to be silent. Khal would lead their conversation.
Gerogina and Jarred expected it. They could not help but exchange a glance, reminding them of the premonition that Jarred felt. It seemed… the misfortune was directed at the clan forces after all.
Khal ignored their obvious exchange; he was not interested in that. He clasped his hand and continued what Devion was saying.
“We want to know the general situation on the battlefield. Who are the ones leading the other camp?” Khal glanced at Goergina. “If possible, we want to know the situation inside the city.”
They could use brute force. Khal and Devion were more than capable of even destroying the whole city by themselves, but that was not why they came here.
And as much as possible, they did not want their arrivals to be known among the normal citizens at all. Their presence was too big; that might change the trajectory of this war.
That was not within Khal’s intentions at all.
This was a war that determined hegemony. Neither the clan nor the government would want his presence at all. As long as none saw them, the two forces would not disclose their appearance here.
Jarred’s and Georgina’s expressions also turned solemn. They were not in a position to ask, and they did not have such courage.
Jarred opened his mouth and began to tell the latest situation on the battlefield. Followed by Georgina, who infiltrated the clan camp. Some of them, the two already knew through Khal’s subordinates, while the others were new information and thus could be of help.
“You said a direct descendant of the Nevaris Clan is leading this batch?” Khal’s eyes flashed as he said this. Devion narrowed his eyes slightly.
The two did not notice these changes and nodded.
Georgina answered instead of Jarred. She personally fought with him. “It’s not just a direct descendant, but it’s from the main branch. His name is Aicel. He’s not as famous as the others in the main branch, but his ability is strange.”
In fact, Aicel was only relatively known and not in the spotlight much. Georgina did not take him seriously at first, but he unleashed a power that almost corroded her.
