Chapter 141: The Horror Under The Sea (3)
In terms of speed, Devion was much superior to Khal. However, he did not use his maximum speed but was just a bit ahead of Khal.
This was intentional, as Ayen was with him; he could not overwhelm him. Khal was also behind them, putting obstructions on their path, slowing down the whirlpool.
By now, not only did they constantly multiply, but some of them were beginning to merge. They also became faster.
Devion cursed again.
If it were a monster, then they could fight, but handling whirlpools was a pain in the ass. Unless they could counter it.
They could only run for now and figure out what to do after.
Khal’s expression was still composed as he put wall after wall everywhere they passed by. Ayen held tightly to Devion.
They had been running for a good while when Devion let out another curse.
“Shit. Khal, in front of us!” Devion shouted, and he stopped; an ice wall immediately appeared to block the incoming wave. Right, the sea above churned and suddenly blocked them and dropped a huge wave.
Khal’s pupils shone, a tad bit darker.
The ice wall he created extended, and the whole wave became frozen. It could be noted that his other hand also erected another huge ice wall behind them.
His expression was so dark, killing intent radiated from his whole being.
He glanced at Devbion and Ayen and pointed in another direction.
“Run,” he instructed.
Devion nodded and, without saying a word, continued to run with Ayen in his hold.
He trusted Khal, so he did not hesitate either. His ability really would not be able to do anything here and might give another effect instead.
Khal put out ice walls upon ice walls. His expression is extremely terrifying. His whole focus was on Devion and Ayen.
Since it was a sky with only clouds everywhere, Devion could not see a place where they could trap or at least change the trajectory of the whirlpools.
In fact, they were the true trouble, and the waves were not much, especially for Khal. It also seemed to have restrictions; otherwise, the waves would have already poured from above them, but instead, only blocked them.
“Damn it.” Devion paused, and then the ground shook; his eyes sparkled. His mana surged and connected to the ground, which was the sky.
It could not stop it completely, but he did not want Khal doing all the work either.
He turned and nodded to Khal. Khal did not stop and let him. His ice walls were still surrounding them.
A loud thunderclap resounded before something slithered below them and struck the whirlpools. As expected, since they were not exactly alive, they could not be killed.
However, they could still be controlled to some extent.
The lightning strikes made the colossal vortexes collapse into large whirlpools again, and their advance slowed down considerably.
Devion sighed in relief.
This did not solve the root, but they could at least combat them.
As for the waves, they were nothing in front of Khal. Those did not worry him much.
Ayen also became relieved.
He was so anxious to even breathe. Ayen trusted the two espers, but the enemy was too bizarre. It was like the whole place was so alive.
Or maybe it was.
For the next hour, their advance became much smoother. Devion was responsible for slowing down and damaging the vortexes while Khal put up obstacles and protected both their front and rear.
This did not mean they had already escaped their current predicament.
Where exactly should they go from here? They could not just run forever. And fighting those vortexes was pointless; they only multiplied regardless of how many were damaged.
There must be a source.
Ayen bit his lips. He was aware that he was useless when on the battlefield. That was not his area; he was not an esper.
However, he became frustrated watching Khal and Devion continuously finding a safe area, which seemed nonexistent.
The whole place was empty. This chasing game had been going on for about five hours. Khal and Devion were monsters themselves; their endurance and stamina could not be compared to those of ordinary people.
As Ayen could see, they were not exhausted… yet. They were already using their abilities and also running nonstop; he did not know when they would finally reach their limit.
It only felt like they were running in circles, but they were only moving forward. There was nothing.
Ayen chewed on his lips.
What could he do with them besides guiding them? For the two, guiding them was the most important; Ayen knew it too.
He was important and necessary to them.
They were in a situation where the two hoped for nothing from Ayen. That was not Ayen’s expertise to begin with. They were only focused on running and finding a possible route, which so far seemed like wishful thinking.
Another few hours passed, and Devion had already stopped cursing; even Ayen was numbed to how long they had been doing this. It was like an endless and annoying chore.
Beads of sweat began to appear on both of the esper’s foreheads. They did not care about that, and they only continued.
Ayen bit his lips; he almost tasted blood. In his eyes, their wavelengths began to show exhaustion, and the chaos spread.
This was like punching a cotton ball; only one party was exhausted.
And it was them.
Ayen closed his eyes and burrowed his face in Devion’s neck.
How could he help them? This SS-class dungeon was not letting them rest at all. There were no monsters, but it was even worse. If this continued longer, their side would collapse first.
That would be too humiliating.
They could not fall here. Ayen was still looking forward to their time together.
His espers were the strongest in the world… This dungeon, filled with tricks, could not possibly defeat them.
But how could he help them? Guide them? But he could not do it in this scenario yet. He had no combat power to speak of… only…
But was the power of an anomaly helpful? Ayen did not know what it actually was. Aegi’s power… What was it?
Ayen concentrated his mind and contemplated how to utilize Aegi’s power in their current setting. While he did so, far away from them, a child eating the food his mother cooked paused.
“What is it, Aegi?”
Aegi smiled cutely but did not answer.
He closed his eyes, and the world paused, including his mother in front of him.
’Big Brother, open your heart and let me in.’
Ayen’s eyes snapped open. Was that Aegi’s voice?
