Khal had not responded after that. Devion tried to make a fuss for a moment before he, too, fell silent and yawned. As for Ayen, he was waiting for an opportunity to raise an issue about the guiding session.

They soon arrived at the gathering of monsters. Ayen glanced at them, unfazed.

While there were a few S-class monsters in them, they were not the majority. Ayen had been used to seeing S-class monsters that they barely stirred his emotions.

Of course, if Khal and Devion were not with him, then that was another story.

Devion’s excitement was instantly ignited, his eyes turning red. Just as he was about to jump from the ice platform and go wild as usual, he paused and turned to Ayen.

“You’re here,” Devion said, becoming lost in thought.

Ayen was aware of his fighting style and so took the initiative to suggest something.

“It’s fine. I can stay here.”

Not only was Devion taken aback, but even Khal, who was originally pretending not to listen, turned to their side.

Khal and Devion exchanged a glance.

“Is that okay?” Devion frowned. He was the one who took Ayen and did not want to ask Khal for help when he confidently said earlier that he could protect Ayen.

Ayen turned to Khal.

The only one who could answer whether his suggestion was feasible. Ayen just did not want to get in the way of Devion’s fighting style and wanted to watch him fight when… There was no curse interfering with his every action.

He did not know why, but Khal stared at him intently for a few seconds before he nodded slightly, devoid of any reaction.

“Sure,”

“You,” after almost an hour, Khal’s voice sounded behind him. Ayen did not turn around. There was a pause, then a sigh. “Ayen.”

Ayen’s lips almost curled at that.

This time, he turned around.

Khal was not Devion, and so he did not argue about that small encounter with names. Yet, he was always more dangerous compared to Devion.

Ayen was extremely aware of that. He should be wary; this was not the Khal he knew. However, he could not bring himself to do so.

His calmness and clearheadedness intrigued Khal, but that was not enough to lower his guard. Unfortunately for Khal, Ayen was in this world only for one thing.

Ayen was not here to create a new love story, something that would not exist outside of this world.

Outside of this world, Khal and Devion existed too, someone who cherished him.

“What do you want?” Khal asked, lowering his tone.

At least Khal did not sound as though he were interrogating Ayen. Earlier, he might have planned to do that. For some reason, he calmed down after seeing Ayen’s serene expression.

Ayen stared at him. The indifference in his gaze had softened significantly over the past few months, especially when it came to the two espers.

At the same time, it never left. There was still a sense of such emotion lingering in his eyes, just not the same desolation it once conveyed.

When dealing with Khal, Ayen only needed to voice out his thoughts. It might not be the same Khal, but both were the same in the end.

“I can guide Devion.” Ayen chose to reveal it by this time.

As much as he loved watching the earlier interactions between his two espers, Ayen was clear of his mission here.

He did not know if the warmth of the realm core was infinite or if it needed to be recharged after they were spent. Ayen did not want to experiment with anything that involved their lives.

Somewhere here, the curse was lingering around. This subconscious was not entirely Devion’s.

Ayen needed to guide Devion immediately when the realm core had sufficient warmth to maintain his rationality. And not to mention, the mist around their wavelengths protecting them.

The moment he saw that curse wavelength, Ayen realized this would not be a one-time thing.

He could tell Devion directly, sure. But Devion’s stubborn, and he needed support. Without Devion’s agreement, Ayen could not succeed in guiding him.

Like how the owner of the house does not let an intruder inside their property.

Khal quickly knitted his brows; he stared at Ayen with his glowing blue pupils. Ayen’s breath slowed down; he was now bracing himself to receive Khal’s temper.

But there was none. Khal only stared at him, observing if he was telling the truth.

Ah, right. Khal had always been more perceptive.

“I can do it.” Ayen took that opportunity to repeat what he said. “This is an urgent matter. I hope you can help me.”

Ayen did not give any explanations. From a more logical standpoint, his appearance here was actually suspicious. Then, now, he was asking to guide Devion.

Khal should be wary of him.

And indeed he was. But there was something in Ayen’s gaze that drew him in.

The most important thing… Khal had not sensed any malicious intentions from him.

Ayen let Ayen stare at him, aware that the other was pondering what he said.

“If you can guide Devion,” he paused, not leaving his gaze to Ayen. “You can also guide me. Prove to me… that you’re not lying.”

Those blue pupils flickered; a silent threat hung in the air.

Instead of being afraid, Ayen only sighed in relief.

So, he was right.

Khal… was already this down bad for Devion earlier on.
