Chapter 136: I AM NOT DONE YET
“Is this guy for real?” Logan thought, eyes locked on the monstrous fireball above him. “Why does he seem so ferocious in a test match? Does he want to kill me that badly?”
The heat was unbearable. Even from meters away, it felt like his skin might blister.
The flame kept swirling. Growing. Rumbling.
Logan tensed his legs, prepared to dodge or counter if he could. But deep down, he knew…if that spell landed, even grazing him slightly, he would be reduced to ash.
Then suddenly….
Fwssh!
The fireball vanished.
Gone. As if it was never there.
No explosion. No fallout. Just empty air.
Logan stood frozen for a full second. His narrowed eyes widened in disbelief. His brain couldn’t process what just happened.
“W-What…?”
Ali Arkman smiled faintly.
“You did well,” he said, voice calm and composed again. As if the last few minutes hadn’t included a fireball capable of burning down a fortress.
Logan blinked. “What?”
Ali didn’t explain. Instead, he turned slightly and looked toward Elizabeth standing near the edge of the arena.
“Send Aiden to my office after the tests are over,” he said casually, like talking about weather.
Elizabeth nodded quickly. “Understood, Guildmaster.”
Ali gave a final nod and returned to his position, at the left of the fighting arena, standing still once again. His expression returned to neutral—as if nothing had happened.
Logan, on the other hand, was still recovering.
He slowly walked out of the center, his steps steady but confused.
“What the hell just happened…” he muttered under his breath.
He exited the fighting arena, the light breeze outside brushing his hair.
He thought about leaving. Test’s over. He passed.
His feet moved forward toward the exit. But then he stopped.
He turned his head and glanced back.
A slight thought flickered in his mind. And then his feet changed direction.
“…No. I’ll watch the others.”
He headed up the stairs again, silently blending into the audience, and returned to his earlier seat in the gallery.
But the other candidates and spectators? They kept staring at him. Everyone had seen what he did. What he endured.
Down in the arena, Elizabeth resumed her duty.
“Token 172!”
A boy in brown robes stumbled down the stairs nervously. His knees looked like they might give out any second. He was Tier 2. Water affinity.
Logan didn’t even need to sense his mana. The way he stood—hesitant, trembling—told the story.
His opponent was the D-class hunter.
The duel didn’t last long.
The boy barely managed a single water whip before the hunter rushed forward and tapped his shoulder with his hand.
“Fail,” Elizabeth announced softly. “Better luck in the next test.”
Then….
“Token 173!”
A young man in his late twenties came down. This one had more composure. A wind affinity Tier 4 mage. His opponent was the A-class hunter. He launched a couple of decent attacks—blades of wind and even a short-range burst to confuse his opponent.
After three minutes, the examiner acknowledged him with a nod.
“Pass. B-class.”
A roar of claps followed from the gallery.
Logan leaned back on his seat.
He watched quietly.
One after another, participants entered the arena and came out.
174!..175!…176!……..210!
Then came a bit of spark.
“Token 211!”
A girl stepped onto the stage. Probably sixteen. Short black hair. Narrow eyes filled with focus.
She wore a fitted black uniform with bright blue lining. Sparks of lightning danced over her fingertips, and a soft flame hovered over her palm.
Fire and Lightning Affinity. Tier 2.
All in the gallery continued watching the duels.
Her opponent was Neil—the same D-class hunter who had earlier defeated a few applicants already.
The battle began.
Neil came forward with sharp, aggressive steps. But the girl didn’t retreat. Instead, she released a fire shot to his left and then instantly followed with a crackling lightning pulse to the right.
Neil deflected both using a mana barrier and his axe, but the attacks weren’t random—they were feints.
She dashed forward from behind the flame trail, catching him by surprise, and launched a sweeping kick with lightning coursing through her leg.
Neil blocked, but he grunted.
It left a mark.
For the next minute, she kept up a fast-paced assault, switching between flame and shock strikes. A well-balanced technique. Good control.
But eventually, Neil adjusted. He read her rhythm. And caught her foot mid-air.
She crashed down. And tapped the ground, surrendering.
The crowd clapped.
Elizabeth gave a nod. “Impressive control. Pass. E-class hunter. But within a few months, you have potential to reach the D-class. Best of luck.”
The girl bowed her head and walked off. Her expression calm but proud.
“Wow! She was impressive.” One murmured.
“She is supposed to be, you fool. You don’t know who she is? She is Luna Hummeir. Daughter of Barnard Hummeir.” His companion added.
“Barnard Hummeir?! You mean the A class hunter famous for his sword moves and fire affinity?”
“Yes. He is very close to reaching S-class. Or atleast everyone says that. He is not just strong but very humble.”
“Well his daughter sure reflects her father’s image then.”
“True.”
Many were gossiping about the last candidate. Her father was a well known hunter.
The tokens started getting called again. Before another candidate’s token attracted the whole attention again.
“Token 248!”
Elizabeth’s voice rang louder this time.
Lucas Hale, he stood up slowly.
He then entered the arena with an air of authority.
Logan’s eyes found him as well.
Fire and Earth Affinity. Tier 3. So he marched toward Medona, the C-class hunter.
Lucas didn’t bow. Medona didn’t respond either. She just pointed the spear forward.
“Begin!”
Lucas moved first. The ground cracked as he summoned earth spikes which lunged at Medona.
Medona sidestepped smoothly.
A fireball shot toward her next. She knocked it away with the spear shaft.
But Lucas was already in front of her—his body surrounded by flaming rubble.
His technique was simple but dangerous. He combined fire’s offense with earth’s defense. And his movement was fluid, not stiff like many Tier 3 mages.
The two clashed multiple times. Sparks and stones flew in every direction.
After five minutes, Lucas tried one last powerful move—raising a wall behind Medona while launching a fire burst toward her front.
But Medona leapt. Straight up. Over the wall. Then brought her spear down.
It struck the ground next to Lucas—close enough to tell him he had lost.
Medona’s voice rang out. “Good control. Decent instincts.”
Elizabeth raised her hand.
“Pass. D-class.”
But then came Luca’s voice. “I don’t accept it. I am not done yet.”
With that he charged again at Medona.
