Seeing that it would take too long to walk, Logan decided to hire a carriage. In this area, such rental-driven carriages were quite common. The first goblin lunged.

The second tried to flank him.

Logan pivoted on his heel and sent a wind bullet straight into its forehead. Crack! The creature flew back and exploded mid-air into a puff of dust.

Two more came at him from both sides.

Logan ducked low. His fist ignited with flames and he drove it into the gut of the left one.

A fiery burst blasted through its body, leaving behind only ash.

The last one hesitated. Logan turned its hesitation into regret. A spear of ice shot from his palm, piercing the goblin through its chest and nailing it to the stone wall.

Ash again.

Logan continued going deeper. The more he went deeper, the more the number of goblins increased. Eight then eleven. After that fifteen.

But the number meant nothing to Logan. Though the difficulty kept increasing with more goblins, he moved through them like a blade through paper—fire blaze, ice blade slashes, wind bullets.

He didn’t waste a single second. He kept massacring the lowly beasts as if he was training with dummies. One after another, they all turned to ash.

But something odd caught his attention.

Each time a goblin died, there was a faint trace of… something. A residue left behind just before the ash blew away.

Spiritual energy. Very faint. Almost unnoticeable. But Logan felt it.

“What the hell?! I thought only higher level dungeon monsters would have spiritual energy. But it seems I was gravely mistaken.”

He paused for a moment after killing another goblin, closed his eyes, and gently exhaled. Then he tried drawing in that remaining essence—using the method Void Soul Sutra.

But nothing happened.

But Logan didn’t flinch.

He shot forward like a phantom.

His movements were nearly invisible. One goblin’s head exploded with a single wind bullet. Another was cleaved in half by an ice blade that appeared mid-air. He spun around, ducked under a wild swing, and drove a flaming punch, sending a fire blaze.

Boom!

The flames swallowed four of them at once.

He slid between two attackers and raised his palm.

Swoosh! A compressed line of wind sliced through three more.

Another leapt from behind…..Logan kicked backward without turning. The goblin flew back with a heaved chest.

Ash. Everywhere. The cave floor was littered with dust and ash that coiled like smoke.

Logan exhaled, lowering his stance. Though the goblins were pretty weak, their enormous amount still made him tired. He was panting slightly.

Still, his mind kept returning to that spiritual energy. The amount was too little to be useful, but its presence was certain. Every time a goblin turned into ash, it left behind a faint trail of spiritual energy.

“I wish I could collect it. Though it’s very little, its accumulation would have been useful.” He thought.

He continued forward, the tunnel now leading slightly downward. The walls grew smoother. The darkness became thicker.

Finally, after a few more turns, Logan stopped.

The tunnel opened into a vast chamber. It was massive.

At the center stood a stone altar. Behind it, a towering figure with a heavy club was waiting.

It was also a goblin. But not a normal one. Nearly thrice the size of the others. With blood-red eyes. And a deep growl that made the air vibrate.

Dungeon boss.

Logan narrowed his eyes and slowly stepped forward.

The goblin boss raised its club.

“Oh! So you are the boss around here. Let’s see how much spiritual energy you have in store for me.” With that Logan lunged forward.
