The moonlight faded, giving way to a soft bluish dawn. The air in the Forgotten Forest was cold—but not nearly as cold as the silence that had settled between mother and son.

Alice sat on a smooth rock, gently rubbing her wrists where the ropes had dug into her skin. Her eyes stayed locked on Logan as he stood nearby—his cloak torn, dust on his face—but his presence remained unchanged. Unshaken.

His voice was firm, grounded in conviction. “You didn’t fail to raise your son. Be sure of that.”

For a moment, silence stretched between them. Then finally, Alice gave a soft chuckle, wiping the corners of her eyes. “You sound just like him, you know? Your father. When he was young.”

Logan smiled faintly. “Well, he is my father.”

Alice blinked. “Why?”

When Logan and Alice returned to the mansion, the atmosphere turned electric.

Logan raised an eyebrow. “Why?”

“Because you need to be seen,” Rudeous said. “Not just by us—but by the world. Let them see the heirs of House Smith. Let them see you.”

There was a pause.

“So you’ll do it?”

“I’ve wanted stronger opponents for a while now,” Logan said, standing. “This will be a good test.”

Rudeous grinned. “Good. I’ll talk to Abraham, then. House Smith will send two candidates. You focus on training.”

“All right,” said Logan.

Logan and Darius trained separately at first.
