Chapter 139: TRAINING RESUMES

“The new kid… from the Hunter Guild test?”

“He looks young… but damn, there’s something about his eyes.”

Logan ignored them and quietly took a seat near the corner window. He glanced at the menu posted on the wall, then raised a hand to call for service.

Sylvie noticed and hurried over, bowing with a small smile.

“Good evening. Would you like something to eat?” As Logan looked very young, Sylvie didn’t address him as sir.

“Grilled chicken, bread, and a cup of water,” Logan said in a calm voice.

She nodded and walked off.

But before she reached the kitchen, trouble stirred.

A bulky man in attire, likely a local drunk, grabbed Sylvie’s arm as she passed by.

“Hey sweetheart,” he slurred, “How about sitting here for a bit? Food can wait.”

She flinched. “Please let go. I’m just here to serve.”

A younger man at the next table stood up. “Leave her alone.”

The drunk chuckled and punched him straight in the jaw. The boy fell, groaning.

Leonard and Lucas both felt enraged. Not because they cared about the waitress but they didn’t like that someone was acting high and mighty in their presence, disrespecting their authority.

Lucas barked, “how dare yo…..”

But before he could finish, Logan rose from his chair.

He walked over slowly.

The drunk didn’t take him seriously. “What now? You gonna scold me too, little brat?” The drunk man was also a hunter but didn’t know anything about the commotion that happened in the hunter test today.

“No,” Logan said. “Just this.”

He moved like a flash.

With a single step and a twist, he locked the man’s wrist and flipped him over the table. He was here with a new identity, so he had no reason to hold back. He had always hated scums like this.

The man crashed onto the ground with a loud thud, groaning in pain.

But not before something sharp grazed Logan’s side.

A knife. It hadn’t gone deep, but it had drawn blood.

Sylvie gasped. “You’re hurt!”

“It’s fine,” Logan muttered, clutching his side lightly.

Everyone was shocked. Within a blink of an eye, Logan took down the drunk. Those who had doubts about the authenticity of the news of a kid becoming a C-class hunter were all convinced now. Even Leonard and Lucas were startled. The action was too quick to even process.

After the scene calmed and the man was dragged out, Sylvie came over again. This time, her hand glowed faintly with soft green light.

She placed it gently over Logan’s wound.

A warm sensation spread across his side. The pain vanished.

“You’re a healer?” Logan was taken aback. He didn’t expect a waitress to be a healer and a good one at that. Just by her mana Logan could feel it. Her Tier wasn’t low for sure.

Sylvie smiled faintly. “Yes… I am.”

“Your mana feels like you have atleast Tier 3 healing magic. Maybe even Tier 4. You’re not just a random healer, are you?”

Unlike other elemental affinities, healing couldn’t be trained. It was fixated from birth. Like Lilith had tier 2 healing magic. Her other affinities will improve over time but not healing.

And any healer irrespective of them having other affinities or not can get a hunter license based on their tier. They don’t even need to take a test. Because all they need to do is heal. Like Sylvie here could surely become a C-class or B-class healer and take part in dungeon raids. Maybe even A-class. So Logan was surprised seeing a person with such potential working as a waitress.

She looked down. “It’s Tier 4.” She murmured in a hushed voice.

Logan blinked. “Tier 4?! Amazing. But why are you working here then? You could easily gain a hunter license and take part in dungeon raids. And that would make a lot of money for you.”

“I’m… scared,” she admitted quietly. “I tried once. But watching people die in front of me…people I couldn’t save—it pained my heart. So I came here instead. I still heal injured people who come in. But I can’t go back there.”

Logan didn’t say anything. He just nodded. He understood the weight of fear. Everyone had their limits.

After that, Sylvie went off to bring the food. Logan continued waiting. But just then, a figure approached him.

It was Leonard.

“Hey there. You did great during the test today. Congratulations on becoming a C-class hunter,” Leonard said, taking the initiative.

From his seat, Lucas sneered.

“That old fool is acting like he’s talking to someone special. He just got lucky and won. If I fight him, I’ll wipe the floor with him.”

Lucas was clearly displeased. Logan had stolen the spotlight by stepping in earlier and taking down the drunk before he could. And the memory of Logan’s impressive test performance was still gnawing at his pride.

“Thank you,” Logan replied flatly.

Leonard’s eye twitched slightly. He was a famous party leader, and yet this brat didn’t even show the slightest respect. Still, he hid his displeasure.

“Have you thought about which party to join? Ours might be a good choice. We welcome talents like you,” Leonard offered with a smile.

“I haven’t decided yet. I’ll consider your offer,” Logan replied.

Of course, Logan had no intention of joining Leonard’s party. He could already sense that Leonard wasn’t the kind of man he wanted to work under. But for now, it was better to avoid unnecessary trouble. Leonard might be shady, but he was strong.

Satisfied with the response, Leonard left instead of staying. He was sure that Logan would be wise enough to join his party.

Not long after, Sylvie returned with Logan’s food.

Logan began eating quietly, savoring each bite.

As the night went on, Logan paid for his meal and booked a small room upstairs. The Delicia tavern had an inn upstairs. It wasn’t fancy, but it was quiet. He locked the door, removed his cloak and mask and entered the washroom for a shower. The day wasn’t tiring, but still he wanted to relax a bit. As he had a lot in his head.

After maybe one hour he was done and came out in a new pair of clothes. Then stretched his body a bit. “Soon I will be going in dungeon raids from tomorrow. I hope I can improve faster and go for S-class dungeons. Only then can I find my answers.” He sank in his thoughts.

After thinking for a while he brushed off his thoughts for the moment and sat cross-legged on the bed.

“It had been a long time since I trained properly. I can’t slack off anymore.”

Since the start of the tournament, he didn’t get a chance to train for the last few days. Though it was only one week, for Logan who was in a hurry to find his answers and get back home soon to his mother, it was long enough.

He took a deep breath.

Qi stirred within him, rising gently like a tide. He focused, letting his breathing slow as the QI circulated through his meridians.

He immersed himself in cultivation and the time ticked by. Outside the wind howled, enveloping the world in silence. It was late at night and almost all were asleep. But Logan continued with his cultivation.
