“You already want to leave?” Integra asked, glancing at the watch on her wrist.

“Pretty much… It’s boring here. No matter what world it is — people or gods… events like this are always equally boring,” Alex said, slightly rolling his neck to stretch the muscles.

“Is the difference really that small?” Integra asked, raising an eyebrow slightly.

Looking away from her daughter, Integra glanced at the watch on her wrist. Estimating how much time had passed since the end of the official ceremony and how long the banquet had already been going on, she realized there was no point in staying here any longer.

“Fine… But first we need to say goodbye properly,” Integra said, lowering her arm with the watch.

“That’s better. I urgently need coffee,” Alex said with a satisfied smile.

“Hold on for five minutes. We’ll go to the Queen’s representative, say a couple of thank-you phrases, and then we can leave. The rest doesn’t concern us,” Integra said calmly, looking Alex in the eyes.

When Integra’s words sounded, a satisfied smile appeared on Alex’s face, which he didn’t even try to hide. Attending such boring events where he had no one to talk to normally always gave him an irresistible desire to ruin everything or do something crazy.

Taking Alessa by the hand, Alex followed Integra to pay his respects and say goodbye to the Queen’s representative, who was in charge of the banquet in her absence. Approaching the representative together with Integra, she said a few polite phrases and said goodbye.

“Well, suit yourself… Alright, hop in, stop standing there. Time to have a family drive around evening London,” Alex said, looking at Integra with a wide smile.

Integra brought the thin cigar to her lips, took a light drag while examining Alex’s car, and after exhaling the smoke, walked around the black Impala. Before getting in, she put out the cigar. When Integra got into the car, Alex started the Impala’s engine.

A few moments later, the car left the grounds of Windsor Castle. Alex drove with one hand on the wheel and the other hanging out the window, a cigarette smoldering between his fingers. Integra sat in the passenger seat with her arms crossed over her chest, looking at the road ahead.

Alessa, sitting in the back, was texting with her sisters, who had immediately written to her when they left the banquet. Alessa was sharing her thoughts about the ceremony, but it all came down to a few words — she had been very bored.

“Yeah. The most ordinary walk. The most ordinary date: holding hands, drinking coffee, and all that,” Alex said, nodding slightly and tapping his fingers on the steering wheel.

She had nothing against him singing. She even thought he had a pleasant voice that was nice to listen to. The only downside for her was that it wasn’t the genre of music she preferred. Closing her eyes, Integra began listening to the lyrics of the song, and they seemed quite strange to her.

“Why is this song so strange?… It sounds like the story of some person,” Integra asked, opening her eyes and looking at Alex.

“Because it is. This song is about the writer Alan Wake, whom I saved in Bright Falls. He got trapped in a trap he had set for himself. In his quest for freedom, he became the hero, the villain, and the writer of his own story,” Alex said, gently rocking his head from side to side.

“It was in your file. I remember… But in this song, some magical Clicker is mentioned. What is that?” Integra asked, nodding and recalling Alex’s file that she had read to understand him better.

“There’s no need to worry about that. That’s what magic is for,” Alex said, giving a thumbs-up with a smile.

Integra’s formal attire changed to a black fitted jacket, a thin turtleneck, and slim trousers with low-heeled shoes. Alessa’s dress changed to her usual dress that Wednesday had worn as a child. When her clothes changed, Integra looked down to see what Alex had dressed her in. Seeing her new outfit, she nodded slightly, showing that Alex had chosen the right option.

“Good choice,” Integra said calmly after finishing checking her new attire.

“What did you expect? That I would dress you in a dress or a skirt?” Alex asked, getting out of the Impala.

“If you did that, you’d end up at the bottom of the Thames,” Integra said, getting out of the car after him.

“You’re so strict. Where’s all the love? Or at least the phrase ‘if you really want it, I’ll wear it for you’,” Alex said in an exaggerated tone, lifting Alessa into his arms.

“The fact that I’m your wife doesn’t mean I have to be any less strict with you. And it definitely doesn’t mean I have to wear something I’m uncomfortable in just to indulge your desires,” Integra said calmly, taking Alex’s arm.

“But you didn’t say a single word that you don’t love me. That means love wins,” Alex said with a wide smile.

Before Integra could respond to Alex’s words, he immediately kissed her on the cheek. Exhaling through her nose, Integra placed her palm on Alex’s face and pushed him away. She wasn’t going to deny that she loved him. But she definitely wasn’t going to say it out loud and saw no reason to do so if she had already shown him her feelings.

Integra preferred to express them through actions rather than words. Still holding Alex’s arm, she made it clear that she was waiting for them to start the walk and continue the conversation they hadn’t finished. “Yeah, I was boasting… Although blowing up an entire galaxy does look cool… And all that remains afterward is simply nothing. Just darkness and emptiness all around. Not a single speck of cosmic dust, not a star’s light, absolutely nothing,” Alex said in a thoughtful tone, raising his gaze to the ceiling.

Integra looked at Alex as he spoke about things that were too distant for her. Integra understood that Alex was powerful, but she couldn’t fully comprehend the extent of his power. After all, she looked at him from a human perspective. But listening to Alex’s words, she realized that destroying an entire galaxy had caused him no problems at all.

And by human standards, that was simply a colossal scale. Sighing, Integra decided not to fill her head with thoughts about Alex’s power and simply continued drinking her coffee. Noticing Integra’s behavior, Alex tilted his head slightly to the side.

“Do you want to take a walk on the Moon?” Alex asked with a light smile.

“No, thank you. I’m fine on Earth. I’m not in the mood to go into space right now. And I don’t even want to think about how I would breathe there and how that works. Or is that what a family walk looks like in your understanding?” Integra said, giving Alex a blank look.

“Pretty much. My little princesses even went with their grandpa to a universe that has an entire world dedicated to an amusement park. For ordinary people, a vacation is a trip to another country or city. For us, a family vacation is a trip to another universe. It’s the same thing, just the scale changes,” Alex said, raising both hands to show the scale.

“If you look at it that way, then yes. Only the scale is still very large. Don’t you think?” Integra said, accepting Alex’s point of view.

“Tell that to the dwarves of Erebor, whom we befriended during our vacation,” Alex said, folding his arms over his chest.

“Did you like it? Or are you going to say that we could have had exactly the same walk at the manor?” Alex asked, looking at Integra.

“No, everything was fine. It was a rather pleasant walk… I’ll even say I’m grateful to you, husband. It’s been a long time since I truly rested… I needed this,” Integra said, exhaling cigar smoke.

“And most importantly — this won’t be the last time we go out for a walk like this. We’ll have many more opportunities to repeat it,” Alex said with a wide smile, lightly bumping Integra’s shoulder with his own.
