Chapter 135: [135] Mysterious Buyer
The interior of the abandoned building faded instantly, immediately transforming into the vast darkness of a forest.
Trees filled the space as far as Eliron could see, their leaves rustling to create a low tune, their shadows twisting in horrid shapes in the darkness.
It was like he had been pulled right into a horror movie, but Eliron knew that this was just the forest outside Kingsbridge.
It was a full moon that night, the pale white light acting as the only source of light in the isolated region.
“Where is Ash?”
He had been with him just a few seconds ago, but now he was gone, leaving no trace behind.
It seemed the teleportation spell had been programmed to move them to two different locations.
’They probably want to pick us out one by one, attacking us while we are alone.’
Whoever was after them seemed to have thought it true at least.
“Tch. To think I would be sold out so easily.”
Eliron did not trust the Demonic Merchant from the beginning, it was a foolish thing to trust someone whose philosophy was money and money alone.
So naturally, he had been cautious. But never would he have expected the spell to be right below his feet.
Eliron’s gaze darkened. ’I’ll have to pay him back with interest when I get back. It’s always good to repay people’s kindness according to the goodness of your heart.’
“But first, I need to get the hell out of this forest…”
Eliron stared around the place, only to stop, facing a particular direction.
Coming from deep within the forest was a thick concentration of mana, one that made the hairs on Eliron’s arm stand still.
This was a whole other level from the mana he had sensed from Sabrina, whoever was waiting for him was no novice, they were the real deal.
Right now, they were purposely leaking their mana to taunt him. It was a beacon, their sign to tell him that they had already sensed him, and that there was no escape.
Most people would have fled in the other direction, but Eliron held the hilt of his sword and began walking towards the source.
“Its time to see who my mysterious buyer is…”
Eliron followed the trail of mana until he got to a large clearing, the moon shining right above it as though to witness the blood shed that was about to unfold.
“Just like I expected…” Eliron seethed as he laid eyes on them. “Don’t you fools have anything better to do?”
The first man had pale red hair and crimson eyes, he was in full elven steel armour, his hair hanging in a high ponytail.
He was seated on a felled three, one hand resting on his knee while the other held his ornate glaive upright. He was clearly a high ranking individual.
The second was dressed a little less like a peacock. He was in lustreless black leather armour, had brown hair and was wielding a long chain attached to a heavy spiked ball.
Both of them were high elves.
’Are they passing travelers? Or did Galanhad already make his move?’
Eliron’s plan was to pass smoothly from Kingsbridge to Donia kingdom, but now that they had joined the equation, things had gotten a little more complicated.
If Galahad had sent him to hunt Eliron, then he would have no choice but to immediately return to Artaris after this fight, knowing that they may be next.
But if they were not, and were on a mission unrelated to him, then Eliron would wipe them out.
He could not let information about his movements be relayed to the high elves.
If they caught wind of it, then there was a chance they would send their most elite warriors to bring Artaris to its knees.
The red haired elf glared at him.
“You know, when I by chance heard that a wood elf was in Kingsbridge, I almost had half the mind to ignore it. But after hearing the rumours of your doings… I felt there might just be a chance it was you…”
“The rebellious laggard who knows little about this world.”
He pointed his glaive at Eliron and snarled.
“So you are the uncouth fool who dared interrupt Lord Galanhad’s Business? The bastard orphan who thinks his position as elven lord puts him above all? How laughable.”
“From your exploits, I had expected a capable warrior, yet I am brought face to face with a washed up failure. But what did I expect from such a third rate sorry state of existence.”
Eliron just gave him a blank stare.
’That’s… a wholee lot of words.’
“What’s with all the yap? You shitty high elves want a fight or not? Even after going through all the work to separate us, you still act like I’m the one with something to worry about—”
“But in truth, you’re scared of me aren’t you? You’re scared of this little laggard.”
Eliron smirked as he watched the high elf flare up with rage. A vein was ticking on his temple, his jaw clenched hard and his fingers gracing his staff.
“Heh—” the high elf smiled.
“It would be foolish of me to waste my time trading banter with a fool. Your death is very much assured, so allow me to ask you a question instead.”
“What did you do the slave? My lord was rather upset that he lost a toy of his.”
“Sabrina?” Eliron smiled. “So you guys aren’t even trying to hide the fact that you planned the assignation, I guess your shamelessness has risen to new heights.”
He shrugged.
“Since your lord was a dunce who didn’t know how to handle people well, I took them for myself, they are mine now.”
If the high elves were angry previously, now, they were furious. Both him and the elf next to him had expressions twisted with rage.
VWOOSH!
A sudden wave of raw oppressive mana suddenly cut past them, crushing dried leaves as they were tossed into the air.
“You lay your filthy hands on what belongs to my lord?! Do you know the consequences of your actions?!”
Then his crimson eyes took on a sinister glow as he stared at Eliron.
“You know what this means right? Once this gets back to Lord Galanhad, Artaris will be burned to the ground, your people will be slaughtered like pigs.”
He took a step forward, his mana roaring like an inferno.
“Filthy mothers separated from their filthy children…”
“Fathers burned in the village centers…”
He smiled.
“The elven lord begging on his knees for mercy. Ahh, I can already envision it, it will just be like that time many years ago.”
Eliron was completely silent as he absorbed his words.
“What, did I strike a nerve?” The elf mocked.
The elven lord sighed.
The next time he raised his gaze, his bloodlust had gone out of control. His eyes was dark, a blank look on his face as he watched them.
Eliron let out a small laugh as he pulled out his sword. “In your next life, I do hope you choose your words wisely.”
“…”
The high elves were stunned at first as a cold feeling rushed down their spines, but it took a short time to shake it off.
“How insolent.” The high elf pulled his glaive out of the floor, sending sand into the air.
“I guess over the years you laggards have grown thick-skulled. I, General Kyros, will be in charge of your reeducation.”
Eliron raised his hand, his eyes locked on Kyros. “Phantom flame!”
The black fire suddenly burst out of his body, about to be unleashed when suddenly—
Crash!
The spell suddenly collapsed. His mana vanished as though it was never present.
“What the?”
Suddenly, Eliron felt something ominous which prompted him to raise his gaze and stare up.
Hanging in the air was something so sinister that it made his skin crawl— a demonic eye staring right at him, the body wrapped up in black chains as it exuded raw demonic energy.
’What is this? An artifact?’
Eliron shook his head, somehow, it felt far more nefarious than any artifact was meant to be.
A dark chuckle came as Kyros watched Eliron with amusement.
“Do you know that among the users of a divine ascension, about seventy percent of them are mages?” Kyros asked mockingly.
“That beauty is the latest invention of our glorious magic department. With that thing in the sky, you will not be able to conjure any spells.”
Kyros smirked. “You talked big just now, so? Are you already out of steam?”
’So that thing interferes with my mana huh?’ Eliron thought as he watched it.
He had to break it somehow, or he would be limited the entire match.
Eliron smiled wryly. Things just got a thousand times more difficult. But at the same time, it was an excellent test.
How well would he fare without the bulk of his spells? It was time to find out.
“Cain, guard the eye at all times. Let’s clean up the scum.” Kyros said.
He took a step forward—
And he vanished
BANG!
Eliron saw a flash of light and lifted his sword just in time. Sparks erupted as steel met steel, a powerful vibration traveling down his bones.
He had managed to block the attack. But even then, it felt like he had just made contact with a frenzied bull.
He redirected the glaive, slicing upwards at Kyros’ neck, but the elf dodged, sending his knee flying towards Eliron’s chin as he raised his glaive.
Eliron took the first step back, dodging the knee, and then the glaive whispered as it cut through the air, speeding at Eliron’s skull.
The second step took Eliron to the left, pushing his body weight to the side to dodge.
The glaive exploded into the ground, creating a deep groove in the floor, but Eliron did not stop to admire the devastation.
He grabbed the glaive with one hand, then rotated his back on the shaft just before lashing out at Kyros’ face.
Bang!
A gust of wind cut past them as Kyros caught Eliron’s arm, his hand oozing smoke, the blade inches from his eyes.
“Intersting.” Kyros glared at him.
Everything had taken place in the space of three seconds…
