Chapter 96: [96] Saving Sabrina
’Storm breaker.’
White currents suddenly crackled around him, the lightning kissing the floor and ringing loudly as they converged on the tip of his blade.
Bang!
With a thunderous roar, the lightning was let loose.
Sabrina raised her glaive as well. “Ice wall.”
Multiple thick walls of ice rose from the floor. One was not enough to stop Eliron’s strike, so she used a dozen, each one acting as a cushion for the next.
The lightning split through them with a deafening bang, creating steam as it exploded into the last one before dissipating.
Eliron then appeared out of the steam, coated by [Wind Spirit’s Aura], his body glowing as the wind converged around him.
With a wave of his sword, large, supercharged balls of slicing wind tore towards Sabrina.
She dodged the first one, racing across the floor as the others came toward her.
Then she spun at the last second, sending icicles flying towards Eliron, but they were all shattered by his wind strikes.
’Tempest.’
A large ball of air began to form above him, Eliron holding it up with one hand.
Unlike before, when he was not using Wind Spirit’s Aura, now, the wind ball was far greater and several times more deadly.
But that was not all.
Eliron raised his other hand and pointed it at her.
“Lightning Coffin.”
Sparks erupted around him, the lightning creating a large cage that surrounded both Eliron and Sabrina, trapping them within it.
She glanced around, a shocked look in her eyes. ’He can dual cast?!’
Yet, it seemed Eliron was not done as he sucked in a deep breath, his chest swelling.
Once he opened his mouth, Sabrina could see a darkness nestled deep within it, as though he had swallowed void.
Sabrina felt her spirit break when she saw the unparalleled display of power.
Skills were ranked from E all the way up to SSS, most mages never even learned an S-ranked skill.
She herself only learned two SS skills and one SSS after so many years.
’How does this make any sense?’
Every single skill he had used since the start of the fight had been SSS-ranked!
’I have no choice… I have to use it.’
Sabrina raised both hands and began a chant, her mana flaring as it congregated right above her head.
The air around her became deathly cold, to the point that her breaths were steamy.
“Grand Disaster!”
A huge chunk of ice, large enough to crush Artaris, was born above her head. Her skin froze over, white patches appearing on her face as she stared up at Eliron.
At that moment, they unleashed everything.
From every single corner of the cage, lightning tore through towards Sabrina, causing her mind to swirl.
Thankfully, she had already tossed the chunk of ice just before she collapsed, staring up at the collision.
Eliron stared at the approaching mass.
’Not bad…’
First, he tossed [Tempest] right at the glacier, but before the ball of wind could rush past him,
Eliron breathed out fire.
’Phantom Flame.’
Black flames rushed out of his lungs like draconic breath, creating a ringing explosion as it met the ball of wind, intensifying the fire severalfold.
It was as though the sun had descended… a dark sun.
Once both spells met, the world shook.
Two SSS-ranked skills versus one, it was a foregone conclusion.
Sabrina watched as the indomitable ball of fire overcame the ice, shattering it into a million pieces.
Then the dark disaster descended, bringing with it a wave of scalding heat.
She just watched as death came towards her.
She could no longer move, since the lightning had paralyzed her body, plus that last spell had taken all her mana.
Yet, as death swiftly approached her, Sabrina smiled.
’Finally…’
The reason why she had stalled was not because she wanted the village to be evacuated, nor was it because she was gauging her opponent.
Sabrina wanted Eliron to kill her and end her miserable existence.
•••
’I want to die.’
Blood dripped down a girl’s slender body, gliding down the grass to join the growing pool.
The child was skinny, underfed, and had a thick collar around her neck as though she were an animal.
It had been that way for as long as she could remember.
Whoop!
A whip cracked against her back, and she held the grass beneath her fingers tightly, sobbing softly.
Her back had become a nest of curly scars, courtesy of the whip.
Sitting not too far away from them, watching the scene with a disgusted expression, was none other than Lord Galanhad, her master.
“You vile abomination,” he said calmly, even as his words cut deeper than the whip.
“I told you not to be seen, did I not? The very sight of you makes my skin crawl.”
Sabrina was meant to remain restrained in the stables to avoid offending the guests.
Never in her wildest imagination did she think they would come to see the horses.
It wasn’t her fault, yet she was beaten to an inch of her life because of it.
All her life had been hell. From the point she was born to her adulthood, Sabrina had lived a century of pain.
Slavery was one thing, but having a collar that defied your very will had a way of making you feel like an empty husk.
Were her actions her own? Were they due to the curse around her neck?
Or was she a psychotic killer…
She would agonize over these thoughts every night as the blood on her hands grew thicker, and as her dreams gained a new face.
Her hands were soaked in the blood of people she never meant to harm, her life filled with thousands of horrific memories.
Sabrina had long reached her breaking point. If the collar did not prevent her from taking her own life, she would have been long gone.
But now…
A pale smile appeared on her face as the fire came.
…She could finally know peace.
But just as Sabrina was ready to embrace oblivion, a rush of wind suddenly encapsulated her, pulling her out of the mess.
BOOOOM!!!
The flaming ball scorched everything in sight, creating a large depression on the floor of blackened earth and rocks.
A wave of heat cut past them, causing the water all around the point of impact to disintegrate.
“Phew! That was close!” Eliron chuckled. “We really made a mess, didn’t we?”
The once beautiful field had been reduced to rubble and ash. It was as though two giants had wrestled to their hearts’ content.
He was sitting down on the muddy floor of the decimated battlefield, and Sabrina was lying right next to him.
Her eyes widened when she realized what had happened. “W-what have you done?!” Sabrina trembled with rage.
“Hmmm, I saved you, of course…”
“W-why?” She sobbed, feeling her heart ache. “Why did you s-save me?!”
Sabrina had finally gotten what she had wanted for over a century, and now it had been taken away from her by someone who wanted to play hero.
“You would have—”
“You should have let me die!”
Eliron was silent when he realized just how far gone Sabrina was.
The slave collar gave a faint glow, and although she could not move because she was paralyzed, she was still making attempts to reach him.
Once an order had been issued, the slave would have no rest until it had been completed.
Seeing her in such a state, still trying to complete her mission in this position, made him realize just how much she had been struggling.
Eliron grabbed the collar, feeling the cold metal.
“Don’t waste your time… it is made of adamantinium, it is unbreakable.”
Sabrina had long lost hope of being free. No one could break the necklace, not with magic nor with swordsmanship—
“Here, I’m done,” Eliron said, tossing the slave collar in his hands.
“Huh?”
Sabrina’s eyes widened.
Then she reached for her neck, feeling an empty space where the collar had once been.
She tried to speak, but no words came out of her mouth.
For so long, she had abandoned any thought of being free, clinging onto the hope of death.
But now…
The familiar tingling in her head was gone, the cold weight on her neck was no longer present, her body was not moving of its own accord.
She was… free.
All Sabrina could do was cry while lying in the mud, staring up at the stormy clouds above.
Eliron remained silent, his presence alone was more than enough.
The glassy energy of spatial distortion appeared once more, and he tossed the collar in, shattering it into a dozen pieces.
’One elf at a time…’ he smiled, as he remembered his brother’s wish.
The hope for a better life for them.
Little by little, Eliron would change the lives of his people, no matter what corner of the world they were in.
He would rebuild Artaris, create a safe haven for the wood elves.
That was his duty as their lord…
