Chapter 93: [93] Playing With Dragons

Ash felt as though he had been reborn.

His entire body was flooding with unhinged strength, his mana had formed a protective coat around him, and all his senses were flaring.

But that was not all that came with it.

He was livid.

Every single minor emotion was erratic, bouncing in his heart like a wild, caged bird.

As for the anger he felt towards the Wyvern? It had grown so great then he could no longer hold himself back.

The rain came down with a vengeance, soaking the already wet elf as he watched the monster.

’I won’t fail again!’

He glanced at Artie’s and she nodded, stringing an arrow on her bow.

Whoosh!

Without waiting for any further directions, without thinking of a solid plan, Ash barreled forward like a mad man.

There was no need for a plan, all he needed to do was break the monster in front of him. Overpower it with sheer strength and pound it to a bloody mush!

As he approached, the wyvern swung its wing, the gigantic limb cutting through the air with a thunderous sound.

Ash slid down, his knees sliding on the mud as he raised his longsword.

“You bastard!”

His sword came with so much force and mana, that the air it caught evaporated from the force of the hit. And then the Wyvern raised its claw.

BOOOM!

Ash’s feet dug deep into the mud as she wyvern pushed its strength into the blow, pushing him deeper into the we soil.

But Ash did not relent.

He grabbed his hilt with both hands and let out a roar as he shoved the arm to the other side.

Slash!

He unleashed a flurry of blows, leaving deep marks in the monster’s hide.

Unlike the crossbow bolts that were made of regular iron, Ash had a longsword made of Elven steel, gifted to him by Eliron.

The monster screeched as its vile blood flowed, then drove its other claw at Ash, the limb crashing into the floor as he leaped back.

But it was all a feint, as the real attack came later.

Whoosh!

The monster’s hard tail cracked from behind him, flying towards Ash like a whip.

“Shit!”

He raised his sword to block, knowing that nothing he could do would save him from serious injury.

But before the tail could connect, there was a light whistle in the air, followed by the familiar sound of crackling lighting.

Ash glanced to the side, just to see an electrified arrow brush past his face, and slam into the tail.

BANG!

The tail went back as it was denied passage, coiling back and slamming into the wyvern.

Ash’s feet landed on the floor, sliding back just as he saw Artie rush past him.

She reached the monster in seconds. The tail came, this time even faster than before, but Artie teleported to the other side of the monster.

Bang Bang!

Two more arrows rocked into its side, pushing its colossal body to the right.

The wyveryn shrieked and swung again, only to catch thin air.

Artie had landed right below it, her crimson hair flying in the wind as she raised her bow, pulling the string until it was taught.

Swoosh!

Blood poured out of its underbelly like a flood, bathing the floor.

But this time, the wyvern did not retreat back; instead it drove its broken wing at Artie, with as much speed as it could muster.

Artie had not expected it to strike from

that direction, so she was slow to activate her spell.

Thankfully, Ash was there.

He slammed his sword into the wing, sparks exploding from the blade as he redirected it.

Then he drew his arm back, the silver energy coating his arms.

BANG!

A massive uppercut rocked the wyvern’s head upward. But other than a few minor bruises, the monster was unharmed.

Artie and Ash then descended into the madness of the battle, dodging and ducking, while unleashing deadly attacks on the monster.

The wyvern was no easy opponent. Its thick hide made it so that it was able to reduce its damage intake, but worse of all, it had gotten faster.

As they fought, the tail came once more, but this time the wyvern swung from above, while twisting its body to hide it.

Artie and Ash saw it too late…

The tail slammed into them, pinning them to the ground, its scales piercing into their skin.

Ash’s shoulder was bleeding profusely, a long injury lining from his shoulder blades to his arms.

Artie on the other hand had blood running into her eyes from a nasty injury on her head.

“Damn it!” Ash cursed.

They had both gotten stronger, so much so that the difference between them before the hunting expedition and now, was like night and day.

It was all thanks to the spirit shards Eliron had given them. But it had been just two weeks…

They still needed more time to adapt to their powers and grow as warriors, yet their very first fight had to be a Wyvern…

He tried to push himself back up, but no matter what he did, the tail did not budge.

“Ash!” Artie called out to him as she raised her head, her bloodied face gazing up at the wyvern.

Ash followed her gaze, his heart tuning cold.

The air had grown frigid. The wyvern opened its maw in a voiceless howl, the wind flowing into its mouth in reverse.

Ash knew what it was before the first signs came…

The wyvern’s chest had inflated, and then a blue light began to glow its chest, its eyes glowing a bright azure blue.

’I-it is… dragon breath!’

Wyvern’s were not dragons, but once in a while, a wyvern who could evolve into one was born.

The difference between such a wyvern and the regular wyverns was the draconic breath.

They never used it except as a last resort, meaning they must have pissed off the creature just that much.

Artie began to chant a spell, hoping to finish it on time while Ash summoned all his strength, pushing against the tail.

But it was to no avail.

Only when the breath was ready did it let them go, so as to not freeze its own tail.

VWOOOOOSH!’

The icy breath came upon them like a tidal wave, eroding everything in sight.

Ash expected to die right then and there, he had his hand blocking his face. While Artie’s body was glowing with her last embers of mana.

Teleportation took a good chunk of energy, after using it so many times, she had run out of mana and the mental resilience required to use it.

But to their surprise, the icy death never came.

When they looked up, a concentrated, golden dome had shielded them.

They immediately turned around to see Yennefer standing with the support of one of the elves.

She looked like a scene out of a horror novel.

Her hand was barely hanging on, dangling on her shoulders. The white part of her clothing was now crimson with blood, and half of her face was covered in the scarlet liquid.

It was so much that she could not even open her left eye properly.

Yet, Yennefer seemed just as energetic as ever.

“Y-you stupid lizard.” She screamed out in rage. “I’m going to kill you, then have Eliron deep fry you for dinner!”
