Chapter 187: [187] Holy Cooking
Eliron was seated on a metal chair underneath a large shade that blocked them from the rain.
Yennefer, the Baron and Cassie were also there as well, but apart from Yen, the other two were not seated… they had long stood up, too shocked by the happenings to remain in one place.
The undead stared at Eliron in complete shock, a vein pulsing on his forehead.
Right from the beginning of their talk with him, up untill now, they had been outside, not once had they even been in the estate.
“You won’t make a fool out of me… Curse magic, Death of the silent king!”
The mana around him took on a dark, putrid green colour. Ghostly skulls danced in the haze, their mouths open in a voiceless wail. And then he unleashed it at Eliron.
Swooosh!
The spell tore right towards him, seconds away from swallowing him whole when Tsukiko suddenly leaped at it, standing between them and the blast.
She let out a howl as she opened her mouth, and right before their eyes, the spell was sucked into her mouth, Tsukiko swallowing it while.
Her stomach swelled like a balloon, and then purple mana coated it, her belly returning to normal shortly after.
Burp!
She fell back into Eliron’s lap, a very pleased look on her face as she wagged her tail.
“Good girl Tsuki!” Eliron praised the spirit, petting her head while she purred.
The undead’s jaw nearly dropped as he watched in disbelief. “That was an A – Class skill… and she ate it up just like that?”
Ignoring him, Eliron turned to Yennefer. “You said you wanted to be the one to finish him off right?”
There was no point keeping the undead alive. He was bound by strong magic, so trying to get anything out of him would be usless.
Before he even finished his sentence, Yen had already gotten to her feet, dusting the crumbs of cookies off her clothes.
“Of course. I can’t stand undead, they are vile creatures that shouldn’t exist. It is my duty as an ange—ppreist!”
She nervously scratched her cheek. “It is my duty as a priest to guide them to the after life.”
As she stepped in front of Eliron, sparks appeared in her hand, her golden staff appearing in her palm, rings jiggling with each step.
“Don’t underestimate me, girl. I am Kalakk of the shadow legion, I am not a pushover. Death’s seal!”
Kalakk raised his hands in the air, the air vibrating as a large, black ball appeared in the air above him.
The wind became turbulent, the rain falling with increased vigour.
“DIE!!!”
Whoosh!
He launched the colossal ball right towards Yennefer, the size of the spell growing even larger as it got closer.
“Pfft.” Yennefer sighed.
Her magic staff was immediately coated with her divine mana, the staff shimmering brightly.
With frightening ease, she slammed the staff right into the ball as though it was but a pebble.
The ball contracted, just before it was launched to the other side of the forest. At the spot it landed, a large crater appeared, creating a green flash of light, and a resounding explosion that blanketed the sound of the rain for a moment.
Kalakk bit his lip is drawing black blood. This time, he waved his hand through the air, drawing archaic patterns.
“Thousand hail storm of death!”
His dark mana sharpened itself into large spikes that slowly hovered in the air around him, and with a wave of his staff, they all cut through the air with a loud shrill.
“Sheild.”
All the spikes crashed right into the golden wall, crumbling to dust.
“Death, death, death. Can’t you guys be more creative with your spells?” Yennefer frowned.
Kalakk screamed in frustration. “What trick is this?! Is this another illusion??”
Every single spell he had used was A-Class.
Even if she was a higher ranked mage than him, which she wasn’t, she should have been near death in the very least!
Curse magic was a type of magic that could supersede class. Once you were cursed, it was a downward spiral to your death.
Yet she had shrugged off his attacks like it was nothing!
“What sort of monster are you?”
Yen pulled back her wet hair and eagerly asked, “Hmm? Are you done attacking?”
Kallakk’s shoulders dropped, his face darkening as he stared at her.
“I see… mediocre spells will just be a waste. In that case—”
The atmosphere around them changed. The world seemed to grow darker, the air more prickly, and the winds colder.
Kallakk slowly raised his arms by both sides, causing his mana to pool around him. A dark smoky aura began to billow into the air, destroying everything in contact.
His clothes were slowly melting away, and so did the mask he had on his face—the skin mask made of Cornelius’ face.
The moment the mask fell, his body twisted. He grew a little shorter, two horns jutted out of his head, and all his clothes fell off, exposing his eerie, beastly body.
It was like thick, black animal fur had been given a human form…
“This is the greatest spell bestowed upon us by our everlasting lord.”
His voice came out as two separate voices merged into one, and in the space his eyes shoukd have been, were two, white, emotionless pits.
“Now know despair. Writhe in agony, and run mad from corruption.”
“Curse magic, Thousand Day Plague—!”
The misty black aura curved into the air, fusing into each other till it formed the image of a gargantuan serpent.
The beast coiled around Kallak, opening its mouth to unleash a blood curdling screech.
“Lord Eliron…” Cassie’s voice came out restrained. It seemed she was finding it difficult to breathe in the ominous atmosphere.
The Baron was not even able to move, frozen in place by fear, his eyes unable to leave the serpentine slits of the serpent.
“Hmm?” Eliron voiced, not turning to look at her.
“Shouldn’t you get involved?” Cassie asked in a worried tone. “That spell… I have a really bad feeling about it!”
Eliron blinked. “Nah, she’ll be alright.”
BOOOM!
The serpent suddnely lunged forward like a missile, slamming right into Yennefer with an explosive bang.
A loud cloud of green, corrosive mana surged high up into the sky, blanketing the little light and casting a large shadow over them.
It was like the remenants of a chemical explosion. Eliron had to use his mana to shield both the Baron and Cassie.
“AHHAHAHAHA!” A booming laugheter cut through the crackling sound of melting soil and grass.
“To think she would take my hit head on. Fool, I have not seen such folly in ages!” Kalakk laughed as he stared at the remenants of his magic.
“Now…” he glanced in Eliron’s direcrion. “It is time I take care of the rest of you.”
“Lady Yennefer…” Cassie said in a low, somber tone, her expression faltering.
“Don’t be so worried, Cassie.” Eliron chuckled.
There was a reason he had not moved a muscle even when it looked like Yennefer was in danger.
It was simple, there was nothing Kallakk could do to harm Yennefer.
Although she had shed her divine form and donned on a mortal one, Yen was still an angel, and as a divine being, she was completey resistant to all form of curse magic.
Yen was the worse matchup for Kallak.
Something moved within the smoky cloud—
Vwoooosh!
The cloud suddnely exploded outward, blowing away as they were repelled by a superior force.
Kalakk began shaking his head from side to side, the intensity of his shaking increasing as he saw Yennefer staring at him—standing deep within the large crater that had formed.
“No… no… NO! That is impossibl…”
He did not get to finish his words, as Yennefer flew right at him at breathtaking speed, clasping their hand over his mouth.
She smiled dowm at him, her golden eyes glinting with malice.
The blonde elf looked perfectly intact, not a even a single hair on her head had been damaged by the attack.
Kalakk’s words hung in his throat as he stared at her, his eyes wide in fear.
Vwoooosh
His body was suddnely coated in a bright golden glow.
“AHHHHHHHH! THE PAIN, MAKE IT STOP I’M BEGGING YOU!” He scremed at the top of his voice.
But yennefer only increased the intensity, up until all that was left of Kalakk was a smothering corpse that crumpled to the floor with a wet thump.
Yennefer dusted her hands and smiled happily, then she clasped her hands together and closed her eyes.
“Rest in peace…”
“Although…” she scratched her head, her eyes still closed. “I don’t think there is much peace in hell… Oh well. Not my problem now is it?”
“W-what sort of spell was that?” Cassie smiled nervously as she asked Eliron.
He raised a brow. “Spell? That wasn’t a spell, it was just her mana.”
“M-mana?!”
Just then, Artie’s group arrived to see the smothering corpse.
Artie glanced at Yen. “I looks like you guys have handled things over here…”
Yennefer amiled smugly. “Of course! How did your mission go? Did you find the bodies?”
Behind her, the two knights glanced at themselves, completely confused by was happening.
Eliron stood up and walked to the Baron. “Baron Pieter?”
“…”
He just stared blankly at them as though he was stuck in a trance.
“Dad.” Cassie nudged him.
“Ahh, f-forgive me, I was a little lost in thought.” The Baron stuttered.
Although he was not in the rain, his clothes were so wet that they were dripping salt water.
Eliron smiled. “We have a very busy month ahead of us Baron. I’m afraid we need to pick up the pace.”
“Can you lead us to the baroness?”
“O-of course!!”
It was about time they wrapped up their activities in Kingsbride.
