Chapter 67: [67] Showing up Drakili

Drakili’s scream caused silence to descend upon the village, pulling the attention of the elves to Eliron and himself.

His words about Eliron wiping out the elves made them quiet due to the weight they carried.

Everyone was waiting to hear him speak, curious about what he truly meant.

And Drakili was loving the attention…

“You set out into the forest, what? 6 days ago? We are all very grateful for your return young lord, and you did excellently well in bringing back our girls…”

The elves nodded approvingly, murmuring at what a good job he had done.

But all Drakili was doing was setting the stage for the bomb he was going to drop on the elves.

Eliron himself was curious about what the chief was going to say, so he waited, a bored look on his face as Drakili spoke.

“Like I said, you did an amazing job in rescuing them, but…” Drakili frowned.

’Here it comes.’ Eliron thought.

“Is that what you spent the last six days doing in the forest? Is that how efficient our elven lord is?”

Drakili frowned and glanced in the direction of the elders, a smirk on his face. Most elves had not yet understood where he was going, but the more observant ones had figured it out.

The chief tapped the cart, a bit too hard, then his expression darkened. “If I remember well, wasn’t this a hunting expedition? Where is all the meat?”

Murmurs began to spread like wild fire.

The expression of the elves twisted with worry when they finally realised what Drakili was trying to say.

They were now completely out of food. Only a few elders had their personal stock left.

The main purpose of the expedition was to solve their food problem, although Eliron did well by rescuing the girls, and the people loved him dearly, failing to hunt even a single monster was a stain on his competence.

Because not bothering to hunt meant that he lacked focus, or was ignorant about the severity of their current situation.

Either way, it was not a character fitting for a lord.

Drakili was overjoyed when he saw his plan pan out. “You are young, I understand if you got…”

He glanced at Yennefer and the girls they had saved, his eyes lingering on the former.

“…distracted. But you should do well to quell your desires, or it might just get in the way of work.”

The mood suddenly became tense as both the Chief and young lord stared at each other.

Drakili had a smug smirk on his face, while Eliron’s face remained impassive.

He was about to speak when Yennefer raised a brow, giving Drakili a blank stare.

Then to the surprise of all the elves, she looked at Eliron, and they both burst into laughter.

The tension that Drakili had spent all this time building up crumbled just like that…

“What is that old man talking about? He really thinks he did something.” Yennefer cackled while tapping Eliron’s shoulders.

Eliron wanted to keep the mood serious, but Yennefer’s laughter was contagious and soon, he found himself laughing as well.

Ash was also chuckling by the other side of the carriage, the entire hunting party joining them.

“He should follow us into the forest next time, let’s see how long he’ll last.”

“Accusing us without proof, what a guy.”

“What did he think we went to do in the forest? Dance? Get a load of this dude.”

The hunters discussed amongst themselves, which enraged Drakili.

He screamed out, his face turning red with rage.

“We are talking about a serious issue here and you are laughing like fools!”

He banged his hand on the cart, his arm dangerously close to Eliron.

“Do you think this is a small matter? Are you saying you do not care about what happens to all the wood eleves—”

A gleaming blade found itself inches away from his throat as Ash raised his blade.

The chief stared at the sword as though it was nothing more than a minor inconvenience.

“Don’t forget who you are speaking with.” Ash said, his voice cold and his grey eyes sharp.

Drakili could sense it, Ash was no longer the same person he knew, something about him was different.

It was almost as though the air around him had shifted.

He clenched his jaw. Then he fixed his gaze on Ash, his animosity evident.

“Do not forget that I am a chief, Ash. I have the right to call out the elven lord in the case of misconduct.”

“Hahhhh—!” Eliron sighed loudly, interrupting him.

Then he leaned over the side of the cart and stared at Drakili, a smile on his face.

“And who says I didn’t hunt?”

The crowd grew silent, but barely for a second before the gossips sparked up again.

— What does he mean by that?

— Did they stash the monsters in the forest?

— Is he bluffing to save face?

Drakili scoffed. “We have eyes, boy. Or did you eat the monsters so that you can regurgitate them?”

The young lord smirked. “Maybe we did, the journey was quite a tiring one, we had to feast on something right?”

A wave of laughs spread amongst the hunters, then Eliron jumped down the carriage.

“Clear the area, let us show them our catch.”

Following Eliron’s instruction, a large space was made, the elves standing at the sides as they watched him.

Eliron, alone, then confidently walked into the center of the space.

All the elders were watching him with curious expressions, wondering what sort of game he was playing with them.

“What will he do? Summon food from the heavens?” Drakili scoffed, his arms folded across his chest.

By his side, although Lazarus kept a straight face, he was just as confused.

Why did he need such a wide area? And how was he going to show them the monsters he had apparently caught?

Normally, he was inclined to believe this was all a game meant to save face, but the hunter’s reaction to Drakili’s taunts made him believe otherwise.

Eliron stood in front of the crowd who all watched him curiously, then he raised a hand to silence them.

In front of him, the familiar beat up pouch appeared in the air. Eliron placed his hand into the pouch, and then he summoned the beasts.

As the first monster began to emerge, the eyes of the elves watching widened to the point where it could not extend further.

A large shadow washed over them and then—

Bang!

The ground trembled as the beast landed on the floor, nearly causing them to stumble.

Immediately they saw it, the hearts of countless elves grew cold, panic flooding their bodies.

They all took several steps back, even the chiefs were sweating buckets as they watched it.

Some could not bear to wait, they ran as fast as they could, fleeing the area.

Who wouldn’t when they saw what was before them?

It was as though the Eliron had pulled out a small mountain from the pouch, and the more they observed it, the more terrified they became.

Then one of the elders suddenly stumbled back, sweat pouring down his face.

“I-i-isn’t that…. A Magistar??”

When they all realised what the dead monster was, the elves were left speechless.

The village destroyer, a city grade threat had been brought back dead by none other than Eliron.

Drakili’s expression twisted with disbelief. “Impossible! It is some sort of trick right? There was no way he caught—”

’This guy won’t give up will he?’ Elrion mused.

’Alright then, let’s play your game.’

Whoosh!

Another monster was pulled out of the pouch, landing atop the mammoth. This one was a feline with deadly claws and fuzzy fur.

As though the mammoth was not enough, Eliron began to pull out more monsters, like a magician pulling bunnies out of his hat.

He smiled. ’We weren’t taking it easy on our way back.’

They had made sure to capture as many monsters as they could so as to maximize their time.

Because of this, they had even more game to add to the already impressive Magister.

The elders began to whisper sharply amongst themselves, while Drakili fell deeper into depression.

Lazarus on the other hand wiped off the sweat on his face, a shiver running down his spine.

“What sort of monster is this?” He said in a low tone.

Then he smiled nervously.

’Still, he’s perfect for that job…’ he thought, glancing in Artie’s direction.
