Chapter 50: Chapter 49: When Pride Crumbles

Zoey leaped to the side as she dodged a laser beam from the Golem Boss, the ground exploding from where she stood a moment ago. The laser began to track her movements as she dashed with quick speeds, and through the mass amount of Golems.

Slice! Crumble!

The sounds of Golems being cleanly sliced in two and crumbling a second later brought joy to Zoey’s ears as she saw that her plan was working. She grinned as she weaved through the Golems with her quick speeds, with their slowness they couldn’t hope to catch her, as the next moment, they were being slain by their Boss itself.

’This is so effective!’ Zoey couldn’t help but let an excited laugh escape her mouth as she encircled the Golems and the Golem Boss, watching as the Boss spun around in a 360° angle to try and blast her with it’s laser, only to miss because she was too quick for it, and actually hit it’s allies.

’If I could get that skill….’ Zoey thought as her eyes gleamed, ’Then maybe taking down a Lord wouldn’t be so hard.’ Zoey thought as she grinned in delight, before sliding underneath the massive form of a Golem’s legs as the lasers slammed into it and cleaved it in two.

Back at the Raging Guild

Three powerful figures walked through the doors of the Raging Phoenix Guild, their presence and aura enough to grab the attention of all the Hunters inside the building. All eyes were on the three figures as they moved with confidence and grace, a deep sense of admiration filling the Hunters as they gazed upon them.

“Holy! Isn’t that the Destruction Party?” A Hunter couldn’t help but exclaim, as they gazed at the three figures who moved like leaders, a large amount of D-Rank Hunters, a few C-Ranks, and three A-Ranks, which were the leaders of the Destruction party.

“That raid was a close one, wouldn’t you say, Ray?” A man asked his partner, a wuff of smoke leaving his mouth as he casually smoked a cigarette, deep claw marks and gashes were all over his clothes, as it suggested that must’ve fought a pretty powerful beast. He wore a tattered uniform, and carried himself pretty well.

“It was a bit troublesome, I even had to use my damn Talent to deal with that mutt.” Ray grumbled under his breath, his black eyes deep and empty as multiple bags were under his eyes. Two sharp daggers were around his waist, high-ranked weapons that were pretty difficult to obtain in a Dungeon raid.

“Even though it was a bit harder than I expected, we didn’t sustain much injury, and we should be grateful for that, as we didn’t have a Healer in our party.” Kana, the last of three leaders spoke through his mask, his facial features hidden as he carried a sharp blade on his back.

As the three members moved through the guild, the whispers of the other Hunters didn’t stop as they continued to discuss in awe and deep admiration.

“It’s actually them, I heard they went to tackle another B-Rank Dungeon. I also heard that they didn’t bother to take a Healer with them.”

“They went in without a Healer? Isn’t that foolish? What if they could’ve gotten hurt?”

“They don’t need one, as these guys are in the Elite of our guild!”

“Yeah, they’re ranked 7th, 6th, and 5th! All A-Ranks! I heard they’ve recently levelled up and broke through to the Ascendant Rankings!”

Norman, the second leader of the Destruction Party, glanced back at the Hunters that were going crazy over their return to the guild.

They were a renowned party in the guild, the Destruction party, who were mostly based off Berserkers.

They would use brute force and sheer strength to conquer High-Ranking Dungeons, while the three of them were Mages, they were also focusing on strength to deal damage and preserve their Mana reserves.

Ray glanced at the cafeteria in the guild, many Hunters were seen eating food of all kinds as they rested and recovered their strength, while other Hunters were just here to stuff themselves after the gruelling training of the guild.

“Wait a minute, isn’t that Kyle?” Ray asked as he pointed to a man with silver hair and golden eyes, sitting alone at a table with an infuriated expression.

“Are you going to go talk to him?” Kana asked, his voice a bit muffled due to the mask he was wearing.

“Yeah, he seems pretty pissed off by something, did Mira beat his ass again? I told him not to get on her nerves again.” Ray said with a sigh as he face palmed, he was aware of the relationship between the siblings.

They did not like each other at all, Mira was the far stronger one, and Kyle basically has to start following her orders as she is his superior. Mira was ranked 4th of the Elite Rankings after all, only beaten by the three S-Ranks of their guild.

’What did you do this time….’ Ray sighed as he turned back to look at Norman and Kana, “You guys can go ahead and report back to the guild master. Make sure to split the rewards evenly to those who volunteered to help with today’s raid, while paying them accordingly.”

Ray commanded, before walking towards Kyle who noticed him approaching.

“Hey there, what’s going on?” Ray said as he waved his hand in a friendly gesture, but Kyle ignored his presence as just sat there in silence.

A heavy aura of rage and bloodlust was bubbling underneath his exterior, as all he could think about was that one girl: Zoey Monroe. He didn’t expect to be beaten by a newcomer, he tried to reassure himself that he was holding back a lot, but the weight of losing to a newcomer, even if he was holding back, was a crushing blow to his pride.

’Mira really must’ve beaten his ass bad, huh?’ Ray couldn’t help but sigh out of pity for his friend. “Cheer up Kyle, I know the day’s been rough on you, but you have to remember that this is how our society works.

The strong dominate the weak, and the weak get discarded like trash.” Kyle shot an angry glare at Ray that made his skin crawl, as he quickly took back what he said:

“Of course, I’m not calling you trash, as you are a strong Hunter after all. However, you must know to not cross Mira, I get it man, she’s your younger sister, but age doesn’t really matter when it comes to Hunter Status, strength does.” Ray said, as he tried to console his friend.

“It wasn’t Mira.” Kyle growled under his breath, his golden eyes glowing intensely as his Talent unknowingly activated, his power soaring as golden flames leaked out of his body, that made the air cold as ice as many Hunters stopped with what they were doing to look at Kyle, a chill running down their spines as their bodies immediately began to tremble uncontrollably.

“Wait what? Seriously?” Ray was surprised, as he thought that it was another fight between the two of them. Ray leaned in close across the table, his expression turning serious.

“Then who was it?” Ray asked, his voice dropping down to a whisper.

Kyle grit his teeth as he suddenly stood up from his chair, his expression darkening as he started to leave the cafeteria. Ray watched him leave with a bit of a dazed expression, who could’ve done this to him if not Mira?

Kyle’s body was fuming with rage, his mind replaying the events of his defeat like a cursed video on repeat. He had lost to a damn rookie, a mere 15th Ranked Hunter in the Elite Rankings, all out of a moment of hesitation!?

This wasn’t him, he was never one to ask for help, he was never one to lose. Especially to Hunters ranked lower than him. He never feared anybody except his sister, as he brought terror and fear to Hunters beneath him wherever he went, and yet he lost to someone weaker than him.

Ray tried to help him, he was well acquainted with Ray, as he and Ray had their own share of raids together. Normally, he hated working with others, however, since he and Ray were on the same level a while ago, he was comfortable around him.

Until, just like his sister, Ray surpassed him soon enough. Leaving him in the dust as he continued to ascend higher and higher, even forming the Destruction Party with members that were around his level, and it pissed him off as he hated being left behind.

“Master Kyle!” A woman that was his assistant called out to him from behind as she quickly ran up to catch up to him, “Your presence has been requested-”

“Cancel all raiding plans for today.” Kyle’s voice interrupted her, as he glanced back at her with a cold expression, before making his way to the Advanced Training Facilities.
