Jax remained seated upon his throne long after the last traces of Kayle’s divine presence had vanished from his senses.

The vast chamber stretched around him in absolute silence — obsidian pillars rising like frozen shadows, layered sigil arrays drifting faintly along the vaulted ceiling, distant ambient mana currents whispering through the structure like slow breathing.

But his mind was anything but still as he remained thinking about what Kayle said. What she said intrigued him, and so did her actions.

Coming into the Demon Kingdom, especially the Capital, even depowered, was a risky decision, and she did that. All she did was measure him and his response to her actions.

Jax’s golden eyes dimmed into contemplative focus. She wanted the war to end, yet not through victory. She wanted change that would persist beyond conflict.

Which meant the war itself was not the objective. It was the catalyst to some of her plans, and Jax wondered if Lilith, Skadi and Sona knew that information.

His gaze shifted toward the far chamber doors, “And I am the catalyst’s unexpected result.”

A faint smile touched his lips. Kayle had made a move. Now he needed to decide whether to counter… or observe.

Still, he decided to put that in the back of his mind, knowing there was still alot of important things he needed to do in downtime between battles.

First, he needed to check up on Ashanti, as they hadn’t spoken in quite a while. Which meant… far too much time had passed.

Jax rose smoothly from the throne.

Space folded around him, not teleportation, not displacement, but simple compression of distance beneath his will. The chamber doors opened before he reached them, sensing intent rather than motion.

Moments later, he stepped into the open night of the capital.

The Fallen Angel District of the Capital.

The portion of Aeternum Noctis governed by the Fallen Angels did not resemble the rest of the Demon Capital.

Where other districts radiated vibrancy, heat, celebration, and dense population energy, this region felt much quieter and more controlled.

Architecture rose in elegant vertical lines of pale obsidian veined with faint silver luminescence. Floating platforms drifted in slow, measured orbits between spires. Suspended walkways formed layered geometric pathways that intersected in perfect symmetry.

Light here glowed steadily. The air itself carried a subtle harmonic resonance, as if sound had been gently dampened to preserve clarity of thought.

Fallen Angels valued structure and order, and that is what Jax provided to them in this district. Even the citizens moved differently, measured steps, composed posture, conversations conducted in low tones with minimal wasted motion.

Jax walked through the district without masking his presence entirely, but contained enough that he would not disrupt the ambient equilibrium.

Several Fallen Angels noticed him immediately and all of them bowed very respectfully, acknowledging their King.

Jax just inclined his head in silent acknowledgment to all of them, and none of them approached him, not wanting to bother him.

Jax made his way to Ashanti’s residence, which stood along an elevated arc overlooking a cascading terrace garden designed entirely around sound-responsive flora.

The plants emitted faint tonal vibrations when wind passed over their surfaces, a carefully curated environment suited for someone who perceived the world differently.

He approached the entrance and the doors parted automatically, recognizing his presence and allowing him inside, but inside the house it was completely empty.

The interior bore unmistakable signs of recent presence, warmth lingering in the air, faint residual mana impressions woven into furniture, an unfinished cup of steeped nightflower infusion resting on a low crystalline table.

But Ashanti was not here.

Jax extended his senses gently, tracing the lingering signature unique to her aura and realizing she had left not long ago.

Footsteps approached from an adjacent corridor, a tall Fallen Angel attendant pausing respectfully at a distance.

“My King.”

“Where is Ashanti?”

“She departed earlier this evening.”

“With whom?”

The attendant hesitated only briefly.

“With Lady Xara.”

Jax’s eyes sharpened slightly.

Xara rarely moved without purpose.

If Ashanti was with her…

It was not casual.

“Destination?” Jax asked.

“Unspecified. However they haven’t left the Capital to my knowledge,”

Jax nodded once and turned away. He stepped back into the open night and expanded his awareness outward — not aggressively, not dominantly, but with fine precision.

Ashanti’s aura did not radiate outward like most beings, probably due to her special condition, but thankfully to Jax, every single person he met left an imprint that he could trace and Ashanti’s was unmistakable.

He found it quickly.

A thin current drifting through the upper districts, moving slowly, deliberately, accompanied by a second presence far sharper and more structured.

Xara’s aura felt like geometric architecture made manifest, layered compartments of intent, calculation, and controlled projection.

They were together so Jax headed towards them as soon as he could, and that trail eventually led him toward one of the capital’s most elevated sectors, an expansive tier of suspended platforms dedicated to high-value commerce, strategic negotiations, and inter-clan resource exchange.

He had this place made specifically to facilitate trade without any issues that would usually stem with trade, such as lies about products etc.

Floating bridges connected crystalline pavilions illuminated by restrained ambient light. Mana conduits flowed visibly beneath transparent flooring panels, pulsing in slow rhythmic currents like circulatory systems sustaining the city’s economic heart.

Jax slowed.

He could sense them now without effort. Ashanti’s presence… serene, attentive, quietly absorbing everything around her.

Xara’s presence was right next to her as the duo were walking together, discussing something and, if he sensed correctly, both were drinking something.

He stepped onto a high platform overlooking an open negotiation terrace, multiple trade representatives gathered below, engaged in quiet discussion.

And there Jax had felt them clearly now. Just beyond the next arc of suspended walkways. Jax began walking toward them at an unhurried pace.

He turned the corner and spotted both of them, “Hey, I’ve been looking for you for quite a bit you know,” he said to Ashanti, who nodded.

“Yeah, it’s been a while, My King,” She said, identifying him from his unique presence and his voice.
