Chapter 179: Chapter 179 Bye-Bye
High above the Hollywood Hills, a hundred Iron Man suits swarmed Jason, their dense, interlocking web of fire tightening around him.
A single suit’s repulsor blast was useless against him, but quantity has a quality all its own. The energy from a hundred suits firing at once far exceeded Tony’s full-power output. One clean hit would probably leave Jason half-fucking-dead.
Forced into a corner, Jason’s vast combat potential ignited. He pushed his energy absorption and conversion to the absolute limit. Using the agility of a goddamn monkey, he bobbed and weaved, ducking and dodging, narrowly avoiding one lethal blast after another.
But being hunted like a fucking bird set Jason’s blood boiling. He slammed his comms. “Stop holding back! Fuck them up! All of them!”
The order given, all of Jason’s crew broke cover and launched their attack.
Franklin stood, thrust one hand skyward, and immediately seized control of two suits flying at high speed.
The Air Force pilots inside the suits were shocked to see warnings flash across their HUDs. The suits were no longer responding.
The two pilots were stunned and immediately radioed their teammates.
“Shit! My suit’s bugging out!”
“Hey? I’ve lost control too!”
“Mine’s fine. You guys sure your suits aren’t just bugged?”
All the soldiers assumed it was a system malfunction. After all, the suits were fresh from the factory and hadn’t been properly calibrated by military techs before being thrown into battle. Bugs were practically expected.
“Shit! The suit’s moving on its own!”
The two pilots watched in horror as their suits’ arms raised, taking aim at the adjacent suits.
BANG!
A fully-charged palm blast shot out, striking a friendly suit’s arc reactor dead-on.
BOOM!
The reactor was severely damaged, spewing sparks. The suit’s power system failed, and the two pilots inside had to make an emergency landing.
“Shit! Are you blind?! You’re hitting your own men!”
The two pilots who got yelled at felt wronged. “I just fucking told you, I lost control… Oh, shit, it’s locking on again!”
“Locking on who?”
“Locking on you!”
BOOM!
Another loud explosion. Two suits, worth over a hundred million dollars each, were severely damaged and forced to withdraw.
While everyone was completely confused, intel came through from command.
The squad leader got the update and immediately shouted: “New intel! Someone in the Joker Organization can control the suits! You two are compromised!”
“Compromised?! Captain, what are our orders?”
“No choice. We have to take you out of the fight. All surrounding soldiers, listen up! Destroy their arc reactors and get them out of here.”
“Roger that!”
Following the order, several soldiers fired their repulsors, destroying the two rogue suits’ arc reactors.
Powerless, the suits plummeted. Two other soldiers swooped in to escort them away from the battle.
With the “traitors” cleared, the captain issued a new order: “Forget Jason! Take out all the other Joker members in ambush! Especially the one controlling the suits!”
“Without his backup, Jason’s a sitting duck. We can slaughter him at will.”
“Roger!”
The order was given. The main formation stopped attacking Jason, leaving only 20 suits to keep him pinned with suppressive fire. The rest of the soldiers flew off, switching to thermal imaging to lock onto the other gang members.
With the main force gone, the pressure on Jason dropped instantly.
He dodged a blast and warned his team: “Heads up! They’re splitting up to pick you off one by one!”
“Haha, good! Let them come. I was waiting for them,” Franklin laughed, completely unbothered.
His Level 2 “Technopathy” was a hard counter to the suits. It was a complete curb-stomp. For him, taking them out was child’s play.
*
The first to be attacked was Chloe, who was still standing on the summit, broadcasting.
It wasn’t that the soldiers were picking the softest target; she was just the closest.
A dozen soldiers surrounded Chloe. Seeing her beauty and her body temperature, which was clearly lower than a living person’s, the soldiers were baffled. What the fuck is this thing?
The curiosity lasted only a second. The soldiers raised their arms and fired.
Chloe just stood there, her beautiful face as cold as ice.
Just as the soldiers thought she was about to be instantly vaporized, her form suddenly blurred.
With agility and reflexes far beyond human limits, she effortlessly dodged all dozen pulse beams.
The most terrifying part was that her dodges never took her more than two meters from her original spot.
“Oh my god!”
The soldiers were stunned by her insanely cool evasive maneuvers.
Firing the repulsors had a slight delay. Her dodging was shocking, but not unbeatable.
Simple: if ranged attacks don’t work, switch to CQC.
The soldiers quickly reached a consensus and dived in to attack.
Chloe was fearless, advancing to meet them.
CLANG!
During the fight, a soldier landed a solid punch on Chloe’s head. The massive force caved her skull in.
But the expected bloody spray never came. Chloe’s head dissolved into a mass of silvery liquid metal, which then instantly reformed, completely unharmed.
“HOLY SHIT! What is that thing?!”
The soldiers were gobsmacked. They knew she wasn’t human, but they never fucking imagined she was made of liquid metal. This was black-box tech way beyond their current level.
In the instant the soldiers hesitated, Chloe’s right hand morphed into an EM rifle.
BANG!
The rifle fired, striking a soldier. A powerful current surged through the suit, frying the internal circuit boards and components. He was out of the fight.
*
Elsewhere, another dozen soldiers found David, who was taking potshots from his sniper’s nest.
David’s sniper rifle was custom-made. It had a massive caliber and used top-of-the-line armor-piercing rounds. Combined with his Level 10 Firearms Mastery, he was a walking artillery piece.
Every shot precisely struck the joint at the neck of the armor. It wasn’t a one-hit kill, but taking an anti-materiel round to the neck-seal was fucking uncomfortable for anyone.
Seeing the suits coming, David quickly dropped his rifle and stood up.
When they were close enough, David opened his mouth wide and let out a devastating sonic scream.
“REEEEEEAAAAA!!!!!”
The sharp, ear-splitting sound washed over them. The soldiers inside the suits felt their blood churn and their minds go blank. Their bones rattled, and their hearts felt like they were about to swell and fucking explode.
The Level 2 sonic scream was extremely damaging to the human body, and the armor offered zero protection against it.
The scream lasted three seconds. The soldiers’ eyes rolled back, and all of them dropped from the sky, crashing into the valley below.
David closed his mouth. “Iron Man suits,” He scoffed. “Pathetic.”
He hit his comms. “Franklin, I’m at 17 kills. You’d better fucking step it up.”
Franklin, who, despite his hard-counter ability, had only managed 10 kills, had a few choice “motherfuckers” to say.
*
At the foot of the hills, John, originally tasked with holding off ground forces, was also besieged by suits.
Compared to the brute-force, stand-and-fight methods of Chloe, Franklin, and David, John’s approach was pure elegance.
As a top-tier assassin, John used the complex terrain to his full advantage, weaving and dodging, evading the suits’ attacks.
Only when a suit was isolated did John finally bare his fangs.
He found his moment, switched from defense to offense, and closed the distance. He leaped, dodging a blast, and extended his middle finger to lightly tap the suit’s arm.
Instantly, a thick layer of ice formed at the point of contact and spread outwards at an alarming rate.
In less than a second, the suit’s entire arm was encased in solid ice, including the internal circuitry and components.
Electronics are fragile. They only work in an optimal temperature range. Too hot, they fry. Too cold, they stop functioning. Either one was fatal to the suit.
With the arm’s components frozen, the arm was useless.
But before the soldier could counter, a pair of hands pressed firmly against his back.
A bone-chilling cold instantly spread from his spine.
In just a few seconds, the entire suit, and the soldier inside it, were frozen solid into an ice statue. The arc reactor went dark.
A Level 2 ’Ice’ ability. Just that fucking terrifying.
PEW! PEW! PEW!
The other soldiers arrived, firing a volley of pulse beams at John.
John dodged and vanished back into the deep jungle.
One of the stray beams accidentally hit the frozen suit. With a sharp crack, it shattered into a thousand pieces of ice.
*
In a dense forest a few kilometers from the summit, Harley was leaning boredly against a tree.
Watching the distant suits fly toward her, Harley yawned, her expression not changing one bit.
“Target identified: Harley Quinn!”
“Don’t underestimate her! Full-power assault!”
In mid-air, a dozen full-power pulse beams shot toward her.
The soldiers had calculated all of Harley’s possible escape routes. Their attack pattern was a perfect, inescapable kill box.
Harley just held up her little hand, gave a “bye-bye” wave, and instantly vanished.
BOOM!
The ground shook and dirt flew everywhere. The pulse beams hit nothing but empty air.
Harley teleported to a different part of the forest and went right back to leaning against a tree.
What a bunch of morons. My power is teleportation. As long as I’ve got the stamina, I can walk you fuckers like a dog.
